Not sure how any serious footballer in a World Cup year is okay with playing just 30 minutes a game. Barca deserve it but strange from Griezmann to be so okay with this.
As I gather he can play more than 45 in half the games he'll feature in.

Apologies if I'm not allowed to share tweets from these accounts but they're essentially aggregators for Barcelona related news.

Got to love the circus and drama surrounding Barca

Imagine your old team suing the team they loaned you to to make them keep you, great for the ego

How are Atleti financially? Can they afford the 40m?
If they had 40m they probably would have used it in the summer. They spent 20m. Think they need to sell to buy and getting a cheaper deal for Griezmann is the aim. His wages are kind of crippling as far as i know.

Laporta realizing that Griezmann won't get more games with enough minutes, so he is checking his options like with the lawsuit against FdJ. You can't make this shit up, especially for a world-class team like Barca.

Mes que un lawsuit

I think that Lawsuit is BS.

Had Atlético already filled the conditions in the 1st loan year then why didn’t they claim the payment before? If Atletico allegedly are in breach for almost 1 month why didn’t they file the lawsuit before? Wouldn’t it have been more effective to just file the lawsuit without Atléticos knowledge?… They didn’t because it wasn’t until the media made fuss about Griezzman’s playtime that they decided on the best strategy to make leverage.

Yes but they'll want to keep those for the second half of the season, when the stakes are higher.

Right now, they'll have a number of games to get to with less than 30 mins - and they will hit that first. Only logical way to do this.

Fully agree. Laporta trying to put pressure on Athleti by threatening a law suit. Athleti would have checked the contract with their lawyers before they started this stuff. I'll be shocked if that was not they case, and they don't win this one.

Is there a more dodgier club than Barca now? City with their fake sponsorships and fake second salaries to staff comes close but they do it very cleanly and likely have several journalists in their pockets.

I get the hatred Barça gets on here, it's fine, I guess (although some of the insults are pathetically OTT), but without looking at the actual wording of the clause, which probably no one reporting on this has done, it's a bit puerile to be so riled up about this. In fact, when the loan was originally agreed some of the usual Barça sources reported it like this. I can't say who is right, I have no idea, but this interpretation of the loan terms is not new and was already being reported by some from the start.

It would be odd for the club who has the obligation to not know the terms? Surely they would play him as a starter if they had no option but to purchase him.

Barca can probably use the lawyers who told them to write to FDJ telling him they we’re going to rescind his contract as it was illegal. They seem like solid folks.

He’ll probably still get more minutes than Frenkie De Jong.

Didn't Barca claim FDJs contract was illegal in an attempt to get out of paying him his wages? How is that case going? Last I checked, he is at Barca collecting his massive wages despite all of Barcas whining.

Or maybe, as it happens with many contracts, the wording is not as unambiguous as could be desired and Atlético is doing whatever they deem fair to avoid paying €40m, which is possibly a fortune for them at the moment (as it is for Barcelona). Again, I'm not pretending to know who is right here as I simply don't know, and there's certainly plenty to hate Barça about, but this looks like a fairly standard contract dispute to me.

Proper horrible club.

Barcelona are hilarious. They agreed terms of a deal then try to sue Atleti because they adhere to the deal small print. What a fecking desperate joke of a club they've become.

The real fun and games will begin if they get relegated to the Europa again.

Barcelona: Agree to a contract with a silly clause
Athletico: Turns the contract to their advantage

It is due to Barca thinking that because they're Barca, they don't need to worry about small print - because as they're so well loved - if things go pear shaped they will be absolved of their responsibilities.

I am waiting for when the the negative effects of the 'levers' start hitting. What are the odds on those contracts also being found 'illegal'?

The worst big club, maybe along with PSG. The way they treat their own players is disgusting. I hope both the Madrid clubs keep them from winning anything good in the foreseeable future.

What is baffling is the number of players who still want to go there, despite seeing this shit. Crazy.

I mean, La Liga are currently nuts deep in a lawsuit suing PSG, at the behest of Madrid, because Killian Mbappe chose to turn them down, so I’m not sure they’re the goodies just yet.

The absolute arrogance to file a lawsuit that amounts to "We are La Liga and we are mad a player turned us down to stay in your league"

They threaten legal action every time things don't go their way. I'm not seeing FDJ being charged with anything.
