Not really true. Yes Mainz stayed solid in the Bundesliga but back then Tuchel definitely had a harder task at his hands than when he left (less financial support, had to get them promoted first).
As @hasanejaz88 has pointed out, Dortmund have definitely been worse. And I also argue that PSG have gone backward, they failed to win the league after he left and as of now he's the only one to ever get them into the CL final.
The guy is clearly an incredible good manager but obviously a massive pain in the arse to work with, the whole clashing with Boehly doesn't surprise me at all.
That point is incredibly disingenuous. they were third when he got the boot in December (or was it November, it was one of the two). Now Pochettino didn’t improve them that season, but Tuchel definitely played his part in them not winning that season, he did after all manage them for around half of it.

Really enjoying some of the Chelsea fans turning on him now that he's gone and they have a shiny new toy. Great popcorn reading.

They had no proper pre season preparation that year because of covid and the cl finishing in August. He had them in striking distance for first place yet Porch couldn't turn it around.

So now there’s an excuse. Why doesn’t the excuse go that Poch walked in mid season so didn’t have a pre season? It’s totally disingenuous like I say. Tuchel deserves every bit as much of the blame as Poch and it’s blinkered to suggest otherwise.

I think most Chelsea fans have a great amount of respect and admiration for Tuchel As the reports come out of the falling out, it is more an understanding that it was a bad situation. We, as fans, were warned by other fans with direct experience with him as a manager, it was just a matter of time before a blow up. I would say most of us thought that honeymoon period of winning the CL with the same players that Frank was throwing under the bus would last for years. As it turns out, most of us were wrong.

I still have no idea why Chelsea sacked him. I highly doubt Abramovich would have sacked him this early. Abramovich only pulled the trigger when it's a lost these days, he seems to have mellowed down now. Boehly is either mates with Potter or he and the boardmembers already eyed Potter up before buying Chelsea. Tuchel also probably didn't do himself any favours going after his bosses. Good news for us anyway as I rate him highly and I think Potter will flop at Chelsea.

Why does it have to an either/or scenario, where only the extremes are possible? Why can’t it just be the case that on the one hand Tuchel is an unpleasant person to work with, that unpleasantness becomes more intolerable when the team isn’t winning, and there’s questions about his suitability for a long-term “project”. While on the other hand, the new owner was much too trigger happy in sacking the football men, was much too keen on involving himself in the day-to-day decisions on a subject he knows little about, and was so keen to make a big impression in public that he embarked on a scattergun approach to transfers that fits neither his (non-existent) sporting director’s or current manager’s preferences, and repeatedly left Chelsea looking silly?
Fair point

Todd Boehly is the interim sports director at Chelsea and is the guy that has signed off on all of Chelseas transfer dealings this summer. He is also responsible for firing Tuchel after, among other things, disagreeing on signing CR7.

Todd is extremely unqualified to sign off on anything even resembling a football transfer, let alone dictate what playerprofile the club should go for. The fact that he was according to all reports legitimately angry that Tuchel did not want CR7 because of his marketingprofile should absolutely terrify Chelsea supporters.

The only similarities that Todd and Roman share is that they sacked a manager quickly. Beyond that, Chelsea might find themselves in a situation where if they dont get the right backroom staff in, and yesterday, they could be in severe trouble for the next decade. Manchester United know everything about that because we are in it. If they dont think that can happen to them, enjoy some real world this season.

Didn’t realise he was there for only 19 months.

Delivered a CL trophy as well. Disgrace tbh isn’t it.

You must not have read those reports.

They didn't say he was angry because Tuchel didn't want Ronaldo. They said he was angry because Tuchel wouldn't communicate why.

Probably just pointed to him ‘pressing’ at 5mph for us and said ‘that’s why’

If not wanting to sign Ronaldo was really a big factor in his sacking that spells doom for Chelsea in the longer term. Bohly is straight out of the Woodward school of football directorship. Marketing success more important than actual success.

That doesnt make any sense. If they have had a conversation, any normal person would communicate why they dont want a player. Unless Boehly told the press thats what happened, I dont see why they would know to begin with.

I agree, the reports are almost definitely bollocks but they all said it was Tuchels lack of explanation (rather than him not wanting Ronaldo) which was the problem.

How much communication would be needed? I don’t believe that he just said “no” and I’m not giving you the reason. It’s much more likely that Boehly didn’t like or understand the reason and so wanted more Tuchel to “explain” more. It should be obvious why Tuchel wouldn’t want Ronaldo, to anyone who’s ever watched a few games anyway.

I do think Tuchel was pretty much asking for trouble for a while, but Boehly comes across as being a right cnut.

Must be a bit gutting for Tuchel as you can see from his tweets.

I remember how he was since the Russia thing and thought he did very well in his commitment and trying to not let them slump too much. He went fully into his Chelsea role, it struck me how much he bought into it and has been dropped at the end but that's football. Results weren't the best either but he and the new regime were on a collision course.

We'll see how Potter and the open dialogue leaving nothing unturned approach works. It could turn into a finely honed machine. Ultimately if Potter is a good coach he should be able to hold his own and who knows be helped with the wider team, it's a method of finding out the best ways in multiple aspects of running a business or club but might be more interference in our club football. Potter seems the best candidate to facilitate it, I'm sure he was on their list long before even if they were backing Tuchel with Auba for instance.

The fact that he even had to explain that to him must have been really insulting to him too.

Yeah that never happened. Just read the first few posts here:

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/thoughts-on-tuchel-as-a-potential-united-manager.469314/

Or consider the basic premise of this:

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/who-you-rate-the-highest-pep-klopp-or-tuchel.465675/

There is no such thing as an identifiable caf consensus. A lot of people thought Tuchel was a tactical genius. A lot of people thought he played tumescent football and was living off the CL win. A lot of people thought he was an arsehole. Some thought all three.

This idea that the caf at one point thought this thing and now it thinks this is just your own perception, and what you chose to pay attention to. Most of the time people’s opinions don’t change that much, it’s just different voices are louder at different times.

It seemed ridiculous to me that Tuchel was compared to Klopp or Guardiola. So ridiculous that it wasn’t even worth entertaining the discussion. That applies to a lot of people and a lot of discussions. It’s weird that people think the caf thinks just one thing, when the only reason it exists is because people like disagreeing with each other on minute details.
this post should be framed and hung up on the RedCafe walls for all to read. Any time I read a variation on “the caf said this and now it says that” it’s an instant eye roller of a post.

I might be in the minority, but I'm gutted that the stars didn't align and we didn't get the chance to have Tuchel as our manager. Tuchel speaking up against our inept board is absolutely what needs to happen.

I have found their transfers weird and boring? Was it because of this Boehly guy or Tuchel that they targeted these players?

he’s working his way through the oil clubs that sack managers for fun. Needs to find a club that will stick with him and give him whatever he wants. He’s a conte like personality so will need backing wherever he goes.

One won the cl with players most of them new to that level and other didn't. That's why people give excuse for tuchel he will most likely win many but not poch.

Many hailed Conte for getting top 4 with spurs despite he had lost all the domestic trophy matches and nothing but league to play for since end of January. At the same time Tuchel took over chelsea he had to play cl and end of January chelsea were 9 th and also had FA Cup to play for.

He played FA Cup final and winning cl and also get top 4 as well. He didn't neglect any domestic trophy in his time as chelsea manager.

Once again i say this todd made a big mistake by not giving time to tuchel to allow him mould the squad. One of the best managers in my opinion.

1. It’s not that they disagreed on CR7, it is the way Tuchel responded when asked to explain why CR7 was a “no”. They DO own the team. If they wanted to make all these unqualified decisions you speak of, they could have bought CR7 anyway. They knew they were firing Tuchel by deadline day, and CR7 was still being shopped to them.

2.The firing of Tuchel wasnt a footballing decision. It was a decision based on the sporting management culture of the organization, and what they wanted that to be at Chelsea moving forward. Clearlake is VERY qualified to do that. Boehly in particular is one of the best in the world at it.

Tuchel is still a very good coach, but frankly he needs to get his stuff together outside of football, re gather himself, and do well at a new start. The sanctions period, on top of everything else going on in his personal life was … a LOT to take. 5 different journos who cover the team directly have used the word “frazzled” or “fraying” frequently as descriptives. So maybe he needs this time more than people think, and, hopefully, this will be better for both parties moving forward.

I don't get these comparisons of titles and achievements. Watch his teams play and you know Tuchel is an absolutely elite coach. Much more so than by watching Pocchetino teams. The level of organisation, structure, patterns of play, adjusting to the opponent, etc. is completely different.

Moreover, I also think the light in which Tuchel is depicted these days is a bit unfair. Yes, he's crossed paths with his superiors at many occasions but those he got into fights with have their histories, too. Watzke or Leonardo for instance. And Boehly seems to be.. well.. difficult, too.

Chelsea fans are fecking bizarre with their owner love ins.
What is bizarre about that? Abramovich took them to being the most successful team in England for some time. Of course they love him for that. They might need to realize Boehly is different, but it's totally understandabe that they do love him.

We hated Bates, we loved Roman and the jury is out on the new lot but they are absolutely being given the benefit of the doubt.

Of course I understand why most Man United fans hate the Glazers but hating your owners is not the norm.
