If not Wan Bissaka as a second RB in our squad, our only hope until January is the currently injured Brandon Williams

He is shite anyway. Him, Shaw, Maguire and Lindelöf need shipping out and be replaced during the next 2 years.

ETH should give him a few games because he was unfair to him. I can't see how he's worse than Dalot.
So basically what you’re saying is you haven’t watched any game in the past 4 weeks

I think he has every aspect to be miles better than Dalot with good coaching.

He is definitely better than what his current reputation is painting on here. Whether he gets the chance to redeem himself I am not sure.

If he can learn to read a ball in the air he can be salvaged. They were targeting him a lot, and he’d have no idea where the ball was going, his winger would get a wide open look at goal. He didn’t even have the good sense to just put a body on his man.

Coaching won't change his technical level significantly. From preseason;

The technical talent simply isn't there but we'll see. It's not actually like he's going to become a significantly different player. Coaching helped Dalot because he already had ballplaying traits before August.

No amount of coaching will ever turn him into a good player on the ball/going forward. He wont even reach Dalot's current level, nevermind miles better.

Love these montages that show you 1 second per clip and cut out before the player's inevitable shite bit of play that follows immediately after the skill.

AWB is technically useless and him immediately getting sidelined was the single most predictable change we all knew ETH would make.

Yeah I can’t believe anyone is seriously surprised that he’s been immediately sidelined. Of all the players who we thought may get dropped, example Maguire or Shaw, at least they have some redeeming qualities that can make them useful to an extent in the right setup. AWB brings nothing to a positive team and it was clear he was going to be a casualty. I’m glad ETH didn’t waste time with this.

Where do people dream this stuff up from? You must be seeing something nobody else can, and certainly neither of our recent managers can.

There's opinions but Christ...AWBs situation has become nearly untenable. He's not fancied, he's put years of crap performances in, hasn't remotely improved, and can't play on the ball, which is why neither Ralf nor ETH are impressed.

Jose might be a good option for him. What I really don't understand about him is why does he always jog back even when we are defending desperately?

Genuinely baffled that with all the shite he's served up over the years and with Dalot being in the form he is, people still think this guy is the solution.

I don’t find him the solution- but I do find him generally an interesting player to watch.

If AWB is the solution, you are asking the wrong questions.

Just watching Dalot's performance last night and thinking how on earth this guy got to play in front of him. He must surely be our worst signing ever? Even Maguire was better value for money than him.

Because Dalot was performing many levels below where he is now

I agree. Maguire is decent and can have a decent to good career elsewhere but this guy sadly is not at all good.

Dalot was never given the same opportunities Wan-Bissaka was. One game here and there with fringe players beside him hindered his development.

Exactly. Dalot himself was written off thousands of times so it's weird that fans jump to repeat the cycle for players out of form.

Wan-Bissaka is not out of form. He's just shit. He could barely do the basics you'd expect from a footballer even when he was "playing well".

Could have said the same for Dalot 2 years ago. I don’t particularly rate AWB but the Dalot example should tell you a lot

Christ. What have you been watching the past 3 seasons? Being athletic is only one aspect of being a top footballer. Watch Dalot against Czechia the other night, AWB can’t replicate that. Best we can hope for is we get £20m back if we are very lucky.

No. Dalot showed his technical quality at AC Milan; he wasn’t given a run of matches at UTD so that judgement couldn’t have been made. On the other hand we have had the misfortune of watching AWB over the last few seasons and it is clear to see that, for as long as he has a hole in his arse, he won’t be an elite performer.

Dalot wasn't good in the past. But he has benefitted from his skill-set suiting the way ETH wants to play, which has given him the platform to perform better and improve.

Whereas in AWB's case it was obvious even before ETH arrived that he was one of the players most ill-suited to what ETH requires. And it would have been the same with a whole slew of other top level managers as well. Where Dalot's weaknesses were more likely to be covered in that sort of system, AWB's were even more likely to be exposed.

In other words it wasn't about which of the two performed better up to that point. It was about one of them very obviously fitting the profile top sides tend to look for from their fullbacks better than the other did and thus having more scope to improve, or at least not be an active hindrance.

He most certainly did get a run of games and wasn’t good enough

The hope for Wan Bissaka is in my opinion defensively, if he can refine his positioning maybe he can emulate someone like Ivanovic as a defensive fullback.

I have to say I think this is a bit of a myth. Yes Wan-Bissaka one-on-one is a great defender, but that is only one aspect of defending. I lost count of the number of times he would be caught under the ball at the back post from a cross, or lose his man from a cross, or just generally be horribly out of position which he could sometimes rectify with one of his trademark slide tackles. That is not even considering how woeful he was going forwards and at the basics with the ball at his feet. I think he was definitely less value for money than Maguire, which says a lot, and we will struggle to get anywhere over £15M for him (and from who?).

Where is the myth? The hope that he becomes defensively good?

I had read (perhaps misread) your initial comment as saying that the only hope for Wan-Bissaka is his defensive ability. Re-reading this now it seems you are also not really on board with the myth that he is good defensively!

No. Natural technical ability can not be learned at that level. He is exceptional at 1v1 defending but a very limited player on the ball. For a deep block defensive team he could be very good and, we should get decent money for him, but for an attacking side with a focus on possession and play, he is a liability.

ETH clearly want's fullbacks good on the ball and attack; if that comes with a lesser defensive ability it's ok, because he has Martinez and Varane with Casemiro and McTom to cover. The fullback positions are very obvious about passing and skill for the manager and AWB is not that.
