Players absent from this trip include Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Well, let's hope Ronaldo finds his mojo against Sheriff or we are up a creek without a paddle. :nervous:

Rashford out now too? Feck sake. I guess the suspended game has some positives.

They should have beaten Sociadad then?
We have struggled against Spanish sides for over a decade no matter the side we have put out and we lost to a joke referee decision.

it's also hard to win with 10 men whilst ronaldo was practically useless and i am including the younger players like garnacho that saw this as their best opportunity to get senior football playing time

With rashford out I think I would prefer to see either sancho or bruno as a false 9 over another dreadful static and non existent performance by ronaldo

Have no confidence in Ronaldo as sad as that is. Looked like he should be collecting his pension last time out

I hope Dubravka is injured. If not it makes the Dubravka signing even odder.

Very much doubt Ten Hag was watching Newcastle games and getting regular updates on him from Holland. I hope its not a case of the club just doing its Lee Grant, Tom Heaton thing of picking up a random goalie who never plays every summer.

I don’t disagree with any of this, but being pragmatic, because we lost, we now have to go full strength.

Ronaldo is a real worry as I can’t see a game where we can ever justify starting him anymore.

This is the game where he scores a brace and everyone says he's back. We'll dominate possession start to end, put in a couple of good crosses and he heads one in.

It will be utterly embarrassing if we ultimately fail to get out of this group.

I feel for the squad players, this was their chance for game time to fight for a more regular spot and now they will likely have to wait for a some time now with the fixtures ahead
It sure messes up things from that point of view.

Strongest team, please. Need to regain momentum, and there is no game in the weekend.

    DDG
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Malacia
    Casemiro - Eriksen
    Antony - Bruno - Sancho
    Ronaldo
    Easy 3-0.

I really hope Ronaldo finds something from somewhere. The decision not to buy a striker was honestly bonkers. Alternatively, play Elanga up front in his old youth setup position

Use the same team that won us the PL games, no messing around at this point after losing the first game and with all the cancellations. These guys ain't bad so we have to make sure we get the job done.

Casemeiro and Ronaldo et al can use the time off the run the bollix out of themselves in training to try to get up to speed.

I'd surprised if Casemiro starts ahead of McTom. Neither have done enough to reverse the starting order.

Not happening, Rashford is out but otherwise I agree.

This is a game we should play near enough full strength for the first hour to keep them match fit. Then if the job is done, rest legs after that.

So many players upfront who are very much the same, lacking presence upfront and unfortunately Ronaldo seems past it on recent showings(or maybe not fit, still his fault)

I never understood why the President of FA is a Royal (Prince William). I thought that they played polo, cricket and rugby.

    The game must go on.
I hear meghan used to play football (the yankee one).

    Time to unleash Garnacho

    De Gea
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Bruno Garnacho
    Ronaldo

Ronaldo, Casemiro, Antony need more match fitness so they simply have to play.

If we have 2 goals cushion we can try giving some minutes to Iqbal in 2nd half.

Rest Varane, Malacia, Mctominay, Eriksen, Rashford and Sancho for PL games in the weekend.
