If he does buy it, it won’t be all with his own money. He’ll front a share but there’ll be a consortium, or debt. Not sure why everyone thinks it has to be one rich bloke paying out of pocket.

Glazers got LOADS of dividends to take out of the club. The leeches wont go anywhere are we will still feed them cash.

This club is like their personal ATM machine.
Has been since they bought the club there personal bank they've used UTDS revenues to borrow on etc etc . Time to go now

I’m very sceptical about believing this good turnaround in fortunes. I’ve been punched in the face too many times to believe that I’m not going to get punched in the face again.

Knowing my luck, this time I’ll not get punched in the face, marvel for a minute that the world isn’t so bad after all, believe the rumours and promptly get kicked in the balls.

There surely have to be other easier investments for the Glazer kids than one that comes with an increasingly furious fanbase.

At their level of wealth why stay with the hassle. Seems a no brainer to get rid, and swathe themselves in unreal riches.

My concern is that we haven't heard it from the Utd big hitters yet, also how much say would he actually get with only a "minority" stake. So in other words does it give any power to push for a proper recruitment team and DOF.

There’s more talk of a Ratcliffe full takeover at the moment though

I think the answer to the thread titles question is no. However he is interested in the publicity being linked affords him.

the guy is what, 70? he's a billionaire, hugely successful in business and has barely done any interviews or publicity his entire life to this point

This is so correct. The guy does not need publicity, he is not Michael Knighton. He is also a ruthless fecker as you would expect. My Brother in law worked at Grangemouth refinery and he trimmed a lot of cost/heads out of that business. He threatened to close the place until the Scottish government built him a port for LNG on the river Forth. And he's a big fan of fracking by the way. Maybe he wants to buy United so he can start fracking in the centre circle :)

Maybe you’re right. I just don’t get the impression he is a serious investor.

What happens to his company and United if he dies at 75. Before any quotes with anyone can die at anytime yes I'm well aware of that but we're talking about quite an old individual and United fan but it's getting a little late in his life, of course he may live to a hundred. I'm just wondering if we have a big upheaval and he sadly dies, does he have family or other key people keen to run his business, perhaps already doing so. I just don't want to end up in some hedge fund clutches and end up with someone like the Glazers again if Jim is the only interested part and he sadly dies. Would've been ideal 10-20 years ago.

Whomever the benefactor is will assume his previous role, just like when Malcom died and his son Joel took over.

Is the call on 22nd about final quarter results?

Also on Friday, is there some options expiring at $14, that caused a lot of rumours a few weeks back?

Earnings call on Friday morning: https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/Man Utd/earnings

They usually offer guidance at the same time for the next couple of quarters. Will be interesting to see if they mention the partial sale or not, they might completely gloss over it and talk about revenue and performance instead. I'll give it a listen when it goes live anyway.

It says on 22nd September? I must be missing something, as it also says 22nd September on Yahoo Finance.

my take is he wants to buy but doesn’t want to pay the asking price

therefore he’s happy to make it known he wants the club so the protestors can help drive down the price by boycotting sponsors etc..

So instead of worrying about players we might sign being too old we are now worrying about potential owners being too old to own us?

Sure. But that's business, everything is a negotiation. What the Glazer's ask for isn't what they'll expect to get in the end, which is just bench-marking that always happens.

And you don't get to Ratcliffe's age and then suddenly switch all that off. He'll desperately want to win in the deal, and if he senses weakness he'll exploit it.

The Glazers won't be asking for any offers, the offer will have to be put forth by Ratcliffe and that offer will have to be the right price for them, if they want to sell.

As far as I understand, the starting gun will happen once Sir Jim places a bid at which point the Glazer’s will likely refuse. This should generate enough interest, probably from a consortium, who would eventually offer them the asking price.

Yeah that sounds about right
