Every winger plays better with a proper striker he’d play a lot better with martial even rashford.

By instruction maybe? Widen the play and stretch the teams but maybe he’s taking it too literally and is too far out and isolated
It's definitely by instruction, but it just serves to isolate him, on the off chance he might sneak behind and surprise the defense, like he did against Arsenal. But the rest of the team just isn't getting him involved at all while he persists with it. Like, look at this:

He's basically drilled a hole in the pitch over there. And when the ball does eventually get to him half the time he just passes it back.

As I said earlier on any player can sometimes take 12-18 months to bed in.
While that is true, you'd think, for such outlays you'd bring in players who are able to deliver way sooner. But probably isn't a very healthy take on things these days, I mean, everybody knows we overpayed.

He is not a one on one dribbler if that is what people wanted or expected, but some very good passing from him in the first half. Does need an overlapping full back to create space for him.
He isn't? If he isn't why did we bring him in then. Because we already have a winger who isn't a one on one dribbler.

I thought he looked good? He was creative and involved in the first half. I think it’s much better watching him than Elanga and he’s only just getting started.
Paying such a sum for him increases expectation above "better than Elanga at least". Might not be fair to the player but this is on the club.

His passing is impressive. I'd like to see the numbers because maybe I got lost in the few times he did it. He does a good job of occupying defenders which creates spaces

I’m all for giving the lad time as he’s been here for about 5 minutes, but this is absolute bullshit and worrying that people are looking to change the narrative already and create excuses for him.

His main attribute, and what we paid €100m for, was his ability to beat a man. It certainly wasnt for his assists tally or goal scoring ability

At least he has much more intensity than the likes of Rashford and Sancho.

You hope he is settling down at this moment. He does not look anywhere close to 80m player or a player we needed to improve at this moment.
Maguire, Fred, him and many others before didn`t look like players worht what we paid for them. It's just how the market works, if one teams wants the player and the other doesn't want to sell. But I guess you know that. Just don't think it is necessary to bring it up after every game.

I for one like to see the positives in his game, and that's the intensity with which he plays and maybe some things are not working for him that much but, playing up front with the likes of ROnaldo, whois the worst striker in the club we have had for many years at this moment who cant bring anyone into play is difficult, along with getting used to still pretty rigid team.

He didn't disappoint me really in any of those games, if anything he was a bit isolated but that's down to the fact we are not using him enough, probably after neglecting that position for years, it became as a habit. Once players get to know his qualities a bit more they will naturally take the ball to the right side more. If anything he seems a player that can create 2-3 good situations every game, if you give himgood opportunity and if he fails, he will absolutely make sure to win the ball back.

I m sure he will steadily improve, like you said when he settles..

As I feared before he arrived. Doesn't really have the pace and power to trouble defenders at the very top level. Hopefully proven wrong, but hasn't gotten a single defender on the back foot yet.

Calm down, if you have seen Antony play, you wouldn't say such nonsense, he's decent 1v1 and is full of tricks, but that is not his natural play either. He uses the tricks to make space for himself for a pass, shot and certainyl can dribble but we shouldn't take him as some 1v1 pace merchant and thats what 100m should be. That would be stupid to think.

He's more direct and aggressive version of Sancho if anything, so yeah set the right expectations.

Yeah. I remember under Fergie when everything was less desperate and we were just very good, it was widely accepted that we'd give players a season to bed in. Even supporters didn't expect too much from New signings in their first season unless it was a proven top class player in their prime. That's such a far gone approach these days, but really it's still applicable.
They were mostly bargains and did not cost club records. He is damn near out most expensive player. In any club in history they would expect immediate impact. Even Reyes got criticised due to his cost.

He got clocked at faster than Sadio Mane last year in the CL. He has the power too, it will take a few months to a season for him to find his feet.

I think he will play every EPL game since we just don't have a good RW in the squad, so we will see some brilliant moments by December IMO.

He didn't actually get that many one v ones so I'm not sure what is to be expected there. Most wingers don't burst past people from deep areas or take on multiple players these days, the theory is the ball moves quicker. We were quite slow in the build up and I don't think we've learnt how to use the right side competently yet to get it out there when the full back is really faced up. You have to remember we've spent years and years overusing the left.

He does, which is the tactical setup we're going for at the moment. I don't really like it, our wide forwards would benefit from having more freedom - ultimately we're using them as a body to stretch the pitched and recycle possession most of the time, in order to create space for inverted full backs. The notion of technically skilled, attacking players making space for decent but not outstanding full backs is just odd to me. Would rather the full backs were high and wide to stretch the pitch, and the wide forwards drifting into the channels and centre where they can create attacks.

Seems to be the in style tactical thing at the moment though.

It's working so far so have no issues with it. I think we've seen jadon and Anthony go centrally too at times so it's not very strict

His passing is better than I expected, his dribbling is... well hard to say because he doesn't use it.
I don't know what kind of player he is, I expected something different. Nevertheless, he did OK I think.
Lack of involvement is a bit worrying, we won't face any weaker opponents this season.

He holds the width but we need to learn how to use it and stretch defences.

Like people said, positively surprised by his passing, but a bit shocked about his lack of dribbling. I can see that happening in his debut against Arsenal, but surely today he should've shown a bit more. I know this may get shouted down, but so far I'm far from convinced

The prices are usually being brought up to point out how the club is being not efficient and it won't be substantial if we don't get a good return from it which has not happened for awhile.

This is not true, especially for top class wide players. Neymar, Mbappe, Dembele, Coman, Vinicius, Luis Diaz, Sterling, Martinelli, Leao and quite a few other all use their pace to burst past players from deep, Hazard basically made a living off this too.

Take these players or their ability to waltz through defences out of the team and you'll see how ineffective the attack will be. Its a myth and a hipster creation that speed isn't that important it's one of the most important qualities in attack.

These kind of games are always kinda two touch football matches. It's the bigger games where we will counter attack where you will see his best abilities.

Plus Ten Hag believes he can grow as a player for us. That means we need to give him time.

To shout it down would be wrong. Legitimate to come under the spotlight after such a big fee. But I think patience is importance. He’s shown great quality on the ball in general and his work rate is fantastic. What I like most so far is that he brings this team balance. He looks at home on the right and we’ve needed that for ages. The rest will follow.

It is an observation, not an excuse. Seeing little to suggest he is the type to continually go at his FB one v one, he wants combinations and to come inside looking for shooting or passing options.

I am not sure about that. Actually people were saying the opposite lately, that he will be better when we can just put him to attack from advanced position.

Doesn't look like a player suited to counter attacking football to be honest.

Adrdesing the right position at a time when it needs to be addresed is also the ability or efficiency of being able to perform as a team quickly enough to be competitive, to get to the CL and win silverware, money is relative.

We aren't playing at the very top level. We are playing against a team from Moldova in the Europa League. A much lower level to where he played all last season where he was fantastic. He just had a quiet game, all it is, and will of course take time to get confidence here given he is young, massive fee, huge pressure, etc. United also had a lot of success on the left side with Eriksen/Bruno/Sancho all there, and then with the lead didn't feel the need to push on.

He's doing alright, quiet game tonight but our attack is still not completely cohesive and it's the defence that is winning these games. Just a case of giving him time.

Everything goes through the left simply because Martinez and Eriksen are much more progressive on the ball than Varane and McTominay. Makes it hard for right-sided winger to get any involvement.

He wasn't even bad, just quiet and didn't really try to go past his man
I think people expect too much too, Hazard was 24 when he came to England. Every winger doesn't come to the league at 22 and boss it. They have flashes.

Within 2 years I expect a very frightening United that people can't cope with, overlaps on the wings with sancho and Antony cutting in

Expectations were high but also keep in mind that teams in the Eredivisie play very high defensive line and generally attack in numbers, similar to the Bundesliga.

Sheriff today played quite deep out of possession and we couldn't really catch them on the break because both wingers had to track back more than usual so they can cover the lack of pressing and marking from Ronaldo.

Antony is explosive when there is room for him to run into. Bruno being all over the place also doesn't help as effective wing play requires triangles. While he (Antony) seems to be developing a good understanding with Dalot, I think Bruno's lack of positional discipline is hurting his chances to shine.

Those who desperate for wingers to
That was the worry some of us did raise — profile wise he does seem sort of similar. I think Antony will improve a lot, but a straight sprinter type who has the capacity to burn a fullback in the mould similar to Dembele or Luis Diaz would’ve been nice. Hopefully we’re keeping tabs on that Mudryk geezer.
Luis Diaz doesn’t have the ability to burn fullbacks. That’s the criticism Liverpool fans have over him compared to Mane who did.

You seem to be an expert on this and have spent a considerable amount of your time scouting Antony so I’ll defer to your undoubted expertise on this matter. Tell me, a layman who’s watched his YouTube vids and his first three games, what I’ve missed and what makes him worth even €50m.

Apparently according to your post above I shouldn’t expect him to dribble, his stats don’t suggest he scores a lot, nor does he create at the same level that Sancho did in a stronger league and I’d be stupid to expect that. So what did we get for our money?
