Gone back to sample some of the steamin' hot takes from after the first couple of games:

None of these people have posted a single word in this thread since just after the Brentford game.

Also, a shout out to @GledTheRed for being a very fair, equal opportunities knee-jerker:

Well obviously I was wrong in my assessment. Which is not a surprise, I am usually wrong in my assessments and predictions! This is one of those times I am glad I was wrong!

Another example why its not smart to write of a player after a few matches. I hope and expect that in the near future this type of compilation can also be made from post that are already writing Casemiro off.

What’s mental is the amount of obsession in pushing this guy into CDM. We didn’t pay that amount of money for ETH to stick him in a position we didn’t buy him for.

:D People just dont watch football outside of the UK. Those current Eredivisie players are doing damn well in the hardest league in the world. I said this before he touched a ball for United in this thread, he will become a fan favorite and is a future captain!
So glad to see him shine at UTD. Dude is super likeable and a brilliant player.

Fair play to GledtheRed.
To be honest, I have more hope with players from the Dutch league than I have with players from Bundesliga now! Everything from the German league just turns to crap except for the abnormal blondie.

I realized they haven't posted in this thread since Brentford too and many others. This is where it all becomes weird, imagine you were so quick to dismiss a signing just after 2 games and he comes very good and can't even praise him because you will now look stupid after convincingly saying he is shit and won't make it here   Sad really

No what's mental is you clearly saying after the Brentford game that we won't make it and that if ETH had been manager for a year he wouldn't consider buying Martinez

All of a sudden you are a fan? instead of supporting and giving new players time you were bashing him left right and center

I absolutely love him. Lifts me every time I see him going into a tackle. It's the motivational talk every time my young lad steps on to the hurling field these days...'Come on buddy, remember, Martinez, not Maguire!'.

Might be slight hyperbole, but I'm not sure I can remember a CB in modern times as comfortable on the ball and as good a passer. I suppose Mascherano and Busquets when they played as CBs

We had one at our club not so long ago in Blind. Arguably a better passer. Martinez is much more mobile and aggressive though.

Yea Blind had good passing ability and nice long balls, but for CB he looked like a boy from whom you could steal an icecream and he'd just nod and walk away. If you try that with Martinez, he'd murder you instantly.

His biggest test is coming (Haaland ofc), and luckily it's not his first time against him.

He is a massive difference to the delayed play Lindelof and Maguire have shown for a few years. His passing as a CB has been absolutely spot on

Obviously Mr. Smartpants, we should appoint you as head of our transfer strategy
We’d have had a very strange and shit team if we’d done that over the last thirty years.

He has learned from the best these past 2 years.

To think this guy was an alternative to Timber.

Now don’t get me wrong Timber looks a talent but I can’t imagine him being anywhere near as good as Martinez, this guy has been sensational so far. I love him.

Never know the true story though do we. I’m sure it would be different from Ten Hag than the media (who’ve likely been fed by Ajax and Timbers agent)

More likely is that Martínez was the main target all along but Ajax thought Timber would leave to go somewhere and couldn’t risk losing both. Then when he agreed to stay, Martínez (who forced the move) became viable

Martinez is better but the difference isn't that crazy.

Also, the best ball playing defender in world football to me is Blind, up there with Trent probably, who's more volatile.

Blind has enough shortcomings but his vision and passing is just wonderful. You can't teach that.

Was kicked out of the club far too early. It was one of those where he was actually good so it was easy to sell him whilst less desirable players like Bailly/Jones etc. couldn’t be shifted. Similar story to Smalling.
