Yeah, when Co 'Scorebordjournalistiek' Adriaanse was their coach. They've also been champions once, but I think that was back in the 60s.

OK, I'll look that up. Willem II actually won it three times! In 1915/16 and twice in the 50s. Plus they won the cup twice, in the 40-s and 60s. And Roda JC were champions in the 50s (I didn't know that) and won the cup twice in the 90s (I know that but had completely forgotten about it).

But more generally, I meant that both have been in the Eredivisie for most of their existence, and to me just have more to them than clubs like Excelsior, Volendam, Cambuur, Emmen, or Fortuna. Even RKC has actually been in the Eredivisie most of the time since the 90s - and I see NAC actually has been an Eredivisie club for most of its history, until their descent in the last 10 years.

Although none of that means anything if they're just not good enough of course - and probably a lot of my perception is anyway coloured by which clubs I associate most with playing against TOP!
As a northerner I very much enjoy the likes of Cambuur and Emmen being in the Eredivisie. There's plenty of clubs from the rest of the country but I always felt that the three northern provinces weren't adequately represented with only Heerenveen and Groningen. And since I live in Leeuwarden I especially hope Cambuur can become a steady Eredivisie team. Got a new stadium in the works too so that's nice. The old one is an absolute piece of shite.

Yeah, @KirkDuyt did accuse me of southern bias, and he's probably right! Although I really don't need to see Eindhoven, Helmond Sport, Den Bosch (booh!) or MVV (well, maybe) in the Eredivisie. And TOP still feels like a amateur club in the wrong division to me.

Looks like I'm stuck in some late 80s or early 90s season. I wonder which one! :D

So fellow Eredivisie followers. Van Gaal not calling up Bijlow, a travesty surely? Right?? Guys???

Andries Noppert played 24 games in the highest division in his 10 year career, Van Gaal is selecting him based on his away performance against Feyenoord. He's Kjell Scherpen who accidentally had a ball kicked into him a few times. On a serious note, I rate Bijlow lower than most Feyenoorders. Especially since his last injury he looks a bit insecure.

One thing that annoys me to great ends is Ajacieden now creaming about Pasveer being some amazing goalie while everyone knows this dude is bang average, but his having a good season. Same thing happened when Stekelenburg went back to Ajax in 2020 and stopped a few shots resulting in him being Oranje's first keeper at the EK and looking like a geriatric dogturd for most games.

Eindhoven would be fun for a season or two!

Yeah but Noppert has been playing well and Bijlow hasn't this season. Pasveer is also having a better season than Bijlow thus far. Bijlow could well be the future Oranje goalie but I don't see why it's such a big deal that Van Gaal is now choosing to check out a couple of other players. Not like he's left him at home for a major tournament or anything like that. And it's not like Bijlow is some big player. Man if I didn't know what happened I'd think he left Frenkie at home judging by some of the responses.

Interesting weekend! Now we just need a Feyenoord win tomorrow to have four teams within two points from each other. I thought Ajax would be running away with it, but now the interesting question becomes how Schreuder will get the team back on track. (Although I read he rotated quite a bit today, I suppose that didn't help.)

How is Blind still a starter for our national team. He's such a monumentally shite defender. Even Go Agead Eagles is too much for him now.

That killer instinct isn’t there rn it feels, and Schroeder isn’t helping matters with his passivity. Ocampos has looked a god awful signing early on, and Kudus being brought on so late in the game for Brobbey who didn’t do much of note. This was the type of game in seasons prior where Ajax would finish with at least 12-13 SOG and somehow find a way to win despite not playing close to 100%. An overreaction given the start to the season but on the whole small signs of worry starting to show.

The most blatant ref robbery of all time. Cillessen kicks a ball into our striker he was just stood there outside of the box. Ridiculous.

I honestly don't know the exact rules anymore these days, but to me this was also a ridiculous call by the referee. Should never be a foul. Again a very controversial moment with Guzubuyuk, after last year awarding a ridiculous penalty to Feyenoord against PSV and a few weeks ago returning the favor to PSV when they got a riduculous penalty decision against RKC. This guy should be demoted.

The league is on though. Said from the beginning Ajax wouldn't walk the league at all. Ajax is quite lucky that PSV is quite shit as well. Still think they're the biggest challenger on the long term, although Feyenoord probably have the best manager which could make them a serious threat.

AZ is on top right now, but I honestly don't really rate them. Nor do I rate their manager very highly. It would really suprise me if they'd be a serious contender - even for a top 2 spot.

I wasn't convinced with Schreuder before the season and so far he still hasn't convinced me sadly. On the other hand he's had to deal with a big chance in personnel. Team needs to rebuild and that goes with ups and downs obviously. Not being able to beat this Go Ahead Eagles team at home is shocking though. We were shite against Liverpool and AZ as well. Hence, don't have very high hopes for the Napoli games at this point. If results don't improve soon, Schreuder could be in trouble.

We (AZ) have been doing just enough every game to pick up points eachbut I’ve yet to see enough in our attack to feel confident of a serious title challenge.

That said we’ve not lost this season and not losing is a good habit to have.

Really depends on the January window for me. If Gakpo leaves I think PSV are out of the race entirely as he’s just levels above any forward in the league. Stick Gakpo in AZ and we’d be favourites.

If Gakpo leaves then AZ, Feyenoord and Ajax will be battling it out. I think we’ll fall short later in the season. But if Gakpo stays I genuinely think he could single handedly drag PSV to a title.

I think Ajax will still win the league, but yeah, they won't walk it. They're very vulnerable under Schreuder and both backs are defensively terrible.

re the Cillessen thing, now that I've processed the initial anger and read the rules I suppose I understand the ref's initial call, but think VAR should at least send him to the screen. The rules say, you can't prevent the keeper from bringing it back in play from his hands, but since he's standing still I don't think he's preventing him from it. Bottomline, we were terrible and NEC deserved a point. We always suck when the competition drops points.

1-0 up and oppo down to 10 men. Surely even we can pull this through.

2-0 even! Important win to get some space from Twente. Quite impressive how they've made their way back up; I did not see that happening anymore.

Did anyway see Ajax-PSV yesterday? What was the match like? From what I read, it seems like PSV won mostly by letting Ajax come at them, where Ajax didn't have much sting and PSV hurt them on the counter. Is that accurate?

Handbags mostly.

Ajax were very tense and frustrated from an early point in the match. Think part of that was them having 90% possession the first 15 minutes and then going 0-1 down out of nowhere.

The jury is still ou on whether Davy Klaassen bit Ramalho after the final whistle

I must have seen a different match then. The first 30 minutes Ajax never came close to PSV’s goal. PSV had long periods of posession, resulting in the 0-1 after a great Gakpo assist.

After that first goal, Ajax was very frustrated and agressive, that didn’t result in a lot of chances. After the 0-2, PsV had a few opportunities on the counter attack, but Ajax managed to score 2-1 out of nowhere. After that, some dangerous moments, but over-all a deserved win for PSV.

Is that so much different to what I said? Ajax were cack and PSV defended well and frustrated them.

It was a shitpile of a game for a neutral though (not that I'm pretending to be neutral, I love that PSV won). Ajax had 64% possession and 14 to 5 shots, but as ypu said, they didnt really create anything. Their goal was a weird cross and I think they hit the post once, while PSV couldve scored another 2.

The frustration from those Ajax players though. Inject it into my veins please.

Top of the league into the break. Yeah baby.
Congrats! It's also fun how the top have come together again, I did get worried Ajax would run away with it at the start. :)

This is so small time

I love it.
You must then have also loved the 'things that are less old than Feyenoord's last title' stuff that was going around before your Van Bronckhorst title. :D

My namesake was fired.

Good for him.

Twat.
I don't follow Den Haag at all, but doing this poorly after they were so close to promotion last year must be quite the achievement!

No, that's mean

I did like the "is Arjen Robben Injured" website.
