As a kid for me there were always teams I considered Premier League teams or top european clubs based on their status when you really started to get into the game

Teams I miss
1. Coventry
Always felt like a premier league club for me based on when i started following in the early 90s, the Ricoh arena aswell was always a class stadium worthy of the Premier League

2. Lazio

For whatever reason always a big european side for me, the crest and the kit is just class for me, also crazy passionate fans, shame the team has not reached a european competition for sometime

3. Deportivo La Coruna

Another one of those sides who were always hanging around the Champions League or UEFA Cup in the early 2000s, some quality players at that time too

Teams I do not miss

1. Sunderland

Could not wait for them to finally get relegated last time, felt like they were literally only there for Newcastle to have a rival, always felt like a championship club

2. West Brom

Came up and down way to regularly to give a shit about, never watched a decent game involving them either

3. Zenit St Petersburg

No idea why, hated that Zenit team that beat us in the super cup, probably cause it was our best side in years and we rolled over so easy

I can't explain it, but I simultaneously miss and don't miss Blackburn and Bolton.

Portsmouth can get in the bin though. Will never forget 2008.

Portsmouth I miss. They always escaped relegation and brought some good drama in the league. But 2008 pisses me off.

Coventry is s good shout, Deportivo as well.
Don’t know about Lazio, is “crazy passionate fans” a nice way of saying “Nazis”?

Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town in England.

Lazio has been doing all right, over the last 5 years. They won a domestic trophy or two. And they participated in the CL 2 years ago (where they got destroyed by Bayern in the RO 16, just the way everyone else does.)

Their ultras aren't “random passionate”, they are fascist fanatics.

Olympiakos. Cool name, cool kit, cool crest.

Last seen getting Van Persie'd in 2014 and giving David Moyes time at United the tiniest sliver of a lifeline.

I miss Swansea a bit, they were a pretty decent side for a few years and it was nice having a Welsh team in the league.

Do not miss Stoke. feck Stoke.

Middlesborough - Good youth academy, similar to Southampton. One of the best badges.

Bradford. I used to play Football Manager on PS1 in 99/2000 and they were in the PL and it brings back nostalgia.

Great thread and some good mentions.

Parma, Dépor, Blackburn, Valencia (a strong Valencia that is), Mallorca (a strong Mallorca that is), Real Zaragoza, Viola, Cagliari and Genoa come to mind.

People including myself always forget how good Valencia where as one point. Literally where a joy to watch but now the team that is as good as them happens to be Athletico which are painful on the eyes

I miss Celtic FC being competitive in the Champions League. It was great when Celtic were capable of making the knockout rounds, or even being a very difficult team to beat in the group stages. They qualified this year but, in the last five years or so, they have struggled to make it past the qualification phase, let alone being a very difficult team to beat. They had some great games against United in 2006-07 and their games against Barcelona used to be great to watch

Too much money in the game now to allow smaller teams from smaller leagues to compete. Rangers made the Europa final last year. Celtic suffered from Rangers getting put down the leagues as they could buy crap and still win the league. Now it seems the level is up and Celtic have some great players

Parma, I remember watching them as a kid due to Faustino Asprilla playing over there. I remember one match when Asprilla spanked Barcelona (way before their UEFAlona years).

Super Depor, they used to be a competitive team both in La Liga and UCL during the first half of 00s.

Funnily enough, when I read the thread title the first team that came to mind was Coventry as a side I don’t miss. Then I opened it and there they were, right at the top of the miss list!

My abiding memory of Coventry is of McAllister moping about the place with his big miserable head, in an overly shiny kit that looked like a pair of cheap pyjamas.

'tis a silly place
No mention of Charlton Athletic so far but they were the little club that could for a while there, Alan Curbishley was managerial hot shit at the time and the played at The Valley and they’re Sir Bobby’s namesake. What else? Darren Lisbie scored a hat trick to beat Liverpool once. United had a great record against them. Giggs almost scored the goal of a season but it ended up being an assist for Ole. Rooney when he was a tyrannical tyke steamed through their whole defence to set up Ruud another time. Charlton Athletic.

Sheffield Wednesday were quite fun. I dont miss Stoke or any of the variations of them. Middlesbrough were quite fun when they had Ravanelli and Juninho.
I miss the variety in european football. Seeing teams like PSV give Italian giants a tough match in the quarter finals or Shevchenko at Dynamo Kiev. Even then it was probably a poor imitation of a more balanced european football scene. Todays football is very stale

I miss Wigan. Shite club with no fans, but they were an automatic six points and +10 to the goal difference every season for years, and they always seemed able to pull off an upset against one of our closest rivals too.

Yet we lost to them when the title was on the line.

I miss Wigan under Martinez. Their end of season heroics to avoid relegation were always fun.

I do not miss Norwich, West Brom or any of the teams that come up to the PL and don’t even bother trying to do anything while there. They just make up numbers. Contrast that to teams like Brentford who actually come up and add some good, positive football to the league.

After seeing Depor and Valencia win three titles between them fairly early in my football fandom I was under the impression that the Spanish league was a fairly equal league that only recently became a two-horse league.

Was a massive surprise when I looked at a list of their title winners and realised they've had their version of the Old Firm since about 1950.

Werder Bremen, and all the teams from smaller nations that could upset the big teams in Europe until the late 90s/ early 00s: Rosenberg, Panathinaikos, Anderlecht, Red Star, Steaua, Celtic etc.

I miss Stoke for the occasional banter about top players having to play at Stoke.

I do not miss Stoke for almost every other reason.
