What was his physical level like at Madrid last year? He looks well off the pace, little moments of quality and then a lot sluggish trundling.

Concerning.

He started very slow and gradually got back to form, perfectly possible we could have a slow and sloppy first few months from him.

We paid 70m for a guy to sit on the bench.

I am not blaming it on the manager. If he is not suited to us or his physicality is gone at this point, it goes back to, of course, the recruiting process of our club yet again with all these high fee panic buys.

I have yet to bear witness to this supposed instant impact the club paid 80 million for. How instant are we talking about exactly?

He's more than adequate passing wise and can be a good tempo setter as he fired a few first time passes between the lines. Unfortunately, he got over confident and also passed to the City players too!

Sloppy but you can tell he just doesn't have that match rhythm/sharpness. I'm not concerned about his quality. He just needs to start and play more.

He's blowing a bit hot and cold at the moment but can definitely see his quality is a level above the likes of McTominay or Fred.

He won't get better by staying on the bench and coming on for 30 minutes. We need to start playing him and try and get him used to the team and into form

Thought he was alright, realistically needed to have started this one. The first half was a mauling and needed anyone to disrupt. McTominay couldn't do it or at least needed help.

Need him to play more - if fitness is an issue then we should have been playing him more to get him match fit. It seems short-termism to carry on with McTominay because it was always going to hinder us long term.

Plays like he lost all of his abilities.
He has some sloppy passes to City but he also shows something which (all) our other midfielders can't do

he made a couple of 30 yard one touch passes forward (which McTominay can never manage to do so)
he managed to nick the ball away from City players' feet from the side a couple times (which McTominay also never managed to do so as a CDM)

He needs to get in the starting lineup asap. Force hin into form.

Was much better than McT in his mins today.

Realistically, we're only seven league games into a season and he's had no preseason with us - but I'd be hoping he starts showing his quality more in the coming handful of games. Starting games and getting settled with how your teammates operate is huge for a centre mid and I'm still hopeful he'll come good with that.

I understand McTominay starting today with how he's played lately, but he was an absolute bombscare and it's time to properly get Casemiro up to speed now.

Mixed cameo but really think we just need to get him starting games and into the swing of things.

Yep this is where I'm at as well, we know he's a monster at his top level. He's still showing signs of that now but he needs to shake off the rust. His start to last season wasn't dissimilar.

Maybe so, but McT has been good so far this season, and not really deserved to lose his spot before now.
Hopefully Case gets a run of games and cements his place.

I think we'll see him in the team now. Ten Hag stuck with a winning XI up until today, which was fair enough.

Slotting right in.

(Into our record when it comes to paying over the odds to buy top shelf players, that is.)

He was rusty but was still infinitely better than McTominay. No real argument for starting McTominay over him once he gets match fit.

Very unfair to McT. Casemiro came in when City was to bored to play football. I obviously have no doubt that Casemiro is the better player but you can't compare their input today.

Would like to see Casemiro and one of McT or Fred for each of the next few games. Need to be getting those clean sheets to give us a chance in games.

Ey? He actually looked decent when he came on beating the lines with forward passes.

Some nice passing yes but he looks so pedestrian in his movement and his recovery running is basically a trundle back. He needs to play every minute of every game for the next few weeks to get him up to speed. At the moment it looks as if he will struggle massively in a stretched game.

A guy like Casemiro should be plug in and play, instant upgrade, concerning he looks so sluggish.

Sadly going as many predicted so far. Overpaid for a player past his best instead of targeted recruitment for a player to fit our needs.

He is in no way, and never has been, a tempo setter.

My biggest worry is that we’ve bought him to stick him in a double pivot with Eriksen when he’s been immense in a 3 for near enough a decade.

I like the signing but I worry about the current set up.

I kinda, kinda understand ETH that he didn't want to change his lineup because of the winning run but on the other hand it's just plain stupid not to play one of our best players into form which will get us going.

Fred-Casemiro-Eriksen is really balanced midfield which we should be seeing, not losing midfield battleevery single game with Championship players who give the ball away for fun and can't effectively win the ball because of subpar positioning and effort.

Definitely should be playing more to get him up to speed, should be worth it in the long run as we need to adapt to 433 at times. We needed a fit Casemiro out there today. Eriksen has been great and I'm sure McTom can be good against poorer teams but we went into today fairly naive and so open in midfield. Casemiro wasn't fit enough to start so it's a problem that needs sorting.

If he's simply too old then it's another colossal mistake of big money and wages getting us nowhere

This summer window from United was fairly overrated. It's like winning a trophy every summer then watch actual matches and witness as the team goes down in flames mentally and physically.

Not in the truest sense but what I mean is that he has it in him to help us control games better purely by ball retention and circulation. It's also helped by the fact that he naturally sits deeper and his general tendency is to be in front of the defenders.

Fair enough.
