He did. Funny that Rio his phone buzzed too. Exactly what Carragher put in that tweet

And again Carragher is right. Rio is acting like a kid fanboy, not the great United defender of his time and a star.
It's cringeworthy as hell and is damaging the club.

But it is bloody annoying and harmful when they voice their idiotic opinion who is just plain wrong
They are pundits and what they speak of is their right. It's their job. They are free to voice it out the way they like, just like I am free to do my job the way I see fit for our team's benefit.

Don't worry too much about these things. It's just business.

They're helping out their "mate" like starstruck little boys. Keane and Rio would love to see Ten Hag sacked and replaced with some mealy mouthed yes man who'll bow to media pressure and play Ronaldo for every minute of every match no matter how poorly he plays, which should make you wonder how much they actually care about United doing well. They're both making the exact same arguments, almost word for word, as Graeme fecking Souness. Neville seems to be the only one who values results and good football over sucking up to Ronaldo.
Isn't Neville a Mancheater lad and was part of come the famous 92 youth team? It's Obvious were his loyalty would lie and that is seeing United winning games and performing like a proper team. I think it has helped that he has met Erik ten Hag too, getting to meet with him and picking his brains would have also made Neville rate him more as a person and as a Manager.

Ten Hag has got us playing fluid, hopefully he can make this team break the goal scoring shackles.

I watched the full video and it's actually better to watch it rather than just reading tweet with limited context. Rio basically said that Ronaldo did wrong to walk out, and ETH did the right thing to punish him as he is setting the culture into the club. But he believes that ETH could have prevent this from happening if he would communicate with Ronaldo about his role.

Well, I'm not on any sides. I do think managing someone like Ronaldo requires something different compare to others but in reality not all managers will have the same kind of man management. ETH is ruthless and I like it.

IMO this could have been prevented if Ronaldo didn't skip the pre-season. Pre-season can be used to build fitness and get used to the new manager's system and to understand the manager's criteria or even to allow the manager to understand and know well about the player. Ronaldo missed the opportunity to work with ETH in pre-season, there was never a link between the two to begin with and it started by Ronaldo skipping the pre-season. Never underestimating the importance of pre-season.
Yeah, that's why all that communicating about his role is bollocks, if he didnt missed preseason he'd be more fit and he'd have time to talk to ETH about his role. Saying it's ETH's fault he didnt communicate to Ronaldo about his role is horrible take by Rio and he keep avoiding the fact Ronaldo missed preseason cause it doesnt suit his agenda.
Ronaldo didnt even meet with ETH just came back to last 2 preseason games or 1 and even then there was video of him not listening to ETH's instructions (or how you look at it tbh) and leaving the stadium when we were playing Rayo.

We're ready to let him walk out on a free last summer so we can take all this 'communicate about his role' bollock with a big pinch of salt I reckon.

When a club tells a player you can leave on a free that simply means you have absolutely nothing to do with their plan for the season ahead. Who would plan anything with someone who is ready to walk out at any moment?
Is it meaning that if Ronaldo off load in last summer, we will buy Gakpo in a cheap price..

They have a public platform and they are ex-united. They should be displaying some level of loyalty to their club over a mate or at worst they should be staying out of it.

The fact that their "opinions" are straight up wrong and clearly blinded by loyalty makes it worse.

Not a single one of them has actually been able to come out with a good reason why Ronaldo should be allowed to behave like a prick and get away with it. Not a single one has even explained why Ronaldo should be playing regularly for United at the moment if he wasn't behaving like a spoilt brat.

United have been a mess for nearly a decade and we have some slim semblance of hope that we are turning things around and we have all the old guard making EtHs life difficult. We have the old guard who defended Ole to the hilt despite anyone with even a single eye being able to see he was in over his head.

They, like it or not, have some sway over elements of the fanbase and hold some power over the media narrative. Behaving like they do to try and protect their over the hill mate vs the club they profess to love is sad.

That's possible but tbh nobody knows. However if he left there's surely a better chance ETH could have persuaded the board to buy him a new striker. We'd also have like 500k off the weekly wages. It's already 24m a year. You throw in another 30m and you'd have a new striker I think. If he's young he'd be on 100k a week max or 5m a year.

It's silly, but somehow I feel it's because he texts them, and that makes them feel relevant (when you're no longer a star in your own right, being able to know a GOAT level player is your mate perhaps gives some validation).

In the piece Rio did, just as he was about to start speaking, he apparently received a text from Ronaldo. You can easily see how there's no way they'll be objective here. The big shame is them throwing ETH under the box as a result of their tunnel vision.
Your second paragraph is even more annoying to me because ETH is the most exciting and promising manager we’ve had post SAF, we finally look like we’re heading in the right direction, and these clowns are throwing him under the bus in ways they never did to Ole or Moyes who deserved it way more.

This is not right. Ronaldo had started more than half our games since the international break. He played badly and lost his place, this is competition. He'd be incredibly daft if he needs to know how merit works. How can any player expect consistent selection when their performance is inconsistent? I'm not surprised though. last season when he threw that tantrum with Rangnick he was having a torrid game and still had the audacity to ask why he was the one subbed and not one of the younger players.

Rio and others can stop pretending the situation has anything to do with logic, communication or clarity when it's pure sentiment. After the newcastle and europa performances what was there to explain? Why did he feel entitled to finish that newcastle game when he had already played 3 times that week? Does it even get brought up that we don't play Ten Hag's system when Ronaldo plays? Why isn't it an issue among Ronaldo fans that he isn't buying in? The more Ronaldo plays the slower our transition to perfecting Ten Hag's approach.

The only clarity Ronaldo wants is for the manager to make it known he starts and finishes every game. Rio talking communication like Ronaldo was going to be happy with anything less. I'm even starting to miss Pogba's circus now.

I don't get it. Ronaldo has literally no excuse. He skipped pre-season and the few times he came on he hasn't exactly lit the world on fire. Аnd if we go back to the argument "well, he hasn't had games". Well, again. Whose fault is that? What? He thinks he can stroll in and do whatever he likes and this spot will just be reserved for him because he's Ronaldo? His mates need to shut the feck up.

And all of them included Man United paying 80% Ronaldo's wage. That's how football world values "Best player of all time"
Its almost like your past form isn't relevant to your current form and players should be judged on merit instead of rose tinted glasses. A seemingly bizarre notion to all the ex-players who can't seem to understand the fantastically simple concept that just because you were the worlds best does not mean you always will be. And this is despite all of them going through some version of this as they aged out of being useful premier league players.

There is one thing you can't do and that is reason with deluded people. A player missed pre season and you expect him to play games?

Its a new manager, he has new principles, ideas and how he wants to play. Players like Martial who had good pre seasons buying into what the manager wants for what? to be dropped for someone who is not bothered?

That is the first issue, which Ten Hag is right.

Secondly, this argument of he hasn't played games is false, he started against Brentford and almost every Europa game. We have not just not won a game, we haven't scored a goal when he started this season.

We have done both in the Europa, to be fair.

Carragher is the only prominent pundit talking sense on Ronaldo and has been since we signed him.

He noted very early on that the signing was disruptive on and off the pitch and couldn’t get Neville to admit it - I remember this very clearly from last season.

Unlike Souness etc. he’s not terrified of being positive of United when it’s merited so I wouldn’t put this down as him just being Anti-United either.

We're ready to let him walk out on a free last summer so we can take all this 'communicate about his role' bollock with a big pinch of salt I reckon.

These off the record briefs are not getting through, they are too ambiguous and easy to ignore by loudmouth pundits.

Murtough needs to go on record and say he’s up for grabs for anyone who wants him, and has been since summer.

It would be showing a complete lack of disrespect to a football legend of course but this legend has shown zero respect to his club, his manager, his team mates and our fans so feck him - this season he’ll have earned an amount almost equal to the Glazer annual dividends while arguably doing a similar amount of damage.

I really like Carragher as a pundit honestly. And when you see the whole Ronaldo story he speaks all the right stuff unlike Rio and Keane who are just embarrassing themselves at this point.

That would completely destroy what's left between United and Ronaldo I think. Tbh I'd love to see that but imo from a business perspective our board would have to think twice before doing this. Ronaldo has a huge fanbase and they might want to do some business later with him. After all money talks. And all this should be kept as diplomatic as possible from United side imo. We won't look good either if we do that I reckon.

Anyway if you look at that tweet you'd see that information was leaked out like 4 days ago the same day Rio said his 'communicate his role' nonsense. Imo the 'sources' mentioned in the tweet by ESPN is actually United. We intentionally let the public know through them so people would see how utter bollock that was. Imo it's actually wiser and better to play this dodgy game that way.

Wasn't Carragher the one who also said he is sure Martinez as a CB cannot work in the PL?

So what? If he would be right about everything, he would be a title winning manager, but he is just a pundit. Doesn't change the fact that his view on the whole Ronaldo at United saga seems to be spot on.

Why have the ex-players except Gary Neville been so wide of the mark on this?
Let's be real, a lot of our ex-players are either:

A) cnuts (Giggs)
B) Sellouts (Beckham)
C) Terribly biased (most of them, honestly)
D) Weirdos who lick raw chicken or suck on their daughter's toes (Evra and Scholes)

Class acts like Cantona, Van Der Sar and Park are getting outnumbered.

He is also embarrassing himself saying things like that.

In respects to Rio and the like, I dont get why you and other fans are getting so bothered about it? If it bothers you so much just ignore it.

They are friends, Ronaldo is Rio and Evra's mate, ofcourse they will back him, what do people expect?

If you were on a night out and one of your friends starts a fight, do you join the other crowd and beat up your mate ?

This is the problem. People point at someone making a mistake as proof they don't know what they are talking about. Someone who makes a mistake and admits to it is 10x the person someone who stubbornly sticks to their guns despite reality showing them how wrong they are.

When Carragher starts doubling down on Martinez we can talk about him. Until then he is one of the few that is honest and willing to admit when he is wrong. The ex-United players refuse to admit that Ronaldo is the biggest mistake the club has made in years.

Oh I am not bothered at all by that, don't through me in the mix with those who are. Being friends with an idiot sometimes means you have to accept looking like an idiot yourself.

Just had an issue with implying that a good point isn't as good just because of another stupid take by the same pundit.

His Vibe with 5 channel. Just as he was asked the question about his views, his phone buzzed and he made a point that it was Ronaldo.

He proceeded to shamelessly throw ETH under the bus with some idiocy about "not communicating" Ronaldo's role to him before the season started. It's like they've lost their collective brains.

As though a manager should be guaranteeing minutes regardless of episode after episode of horrendous performances.
Thanks, will try to find it later, I have to work, life sucks.

What none of our ex players (Ronaldo fanboys) are willing to explain is why there are no other leading clubs willing to take Ronaldo on, if they consider him good enough to be in the Utd team? I just hope this circus ends in Jan when the team/fans start to look forward to the business end of season.

I still stand by my comment. A lot of our ex-players aren't worth listening to, for various reasons.

I'm sure not that's fair, I mean some definitely aren't worth listening to I agree but the reasons don't really stack up for me.

You say you wouldn't listen to Giggs because he's a cnut, to be clear I am not saying he's not but equally I'm not sure why him being a cnut would affect his opinions on football given that he played at the highest level for 20 years, coached at United and also managed internationally?

Beckham's a sell-out, presumably for promoting Qatar? Why would that make him not worth listening to? Why is Cantona not a sell-out for promoting gambling companies?

And on Evra and Scholes, I don't see why them getting involved in the occasional weird act (that has nothing to do with football) would mean we shouldn't listen to their football opinions?

Another thing that they refuse to acknowledge is that Cristiano is no longer the player he was.

You can talk all you want about how much he scored last season and took us on his back but RIGHT NOW he's no way near to the levels that we need.

Every time that we miss a chance for a goal they automatically say "Ronaldo score that".

first of all he will never make the run to even get the ball in a comfortable situation to score and secondly I've seen Ronaldo misses great chances and sometimes absolute sitters(remember the chance against Omonia ?)

I don't know if its because of his age, lack of fitness & form, lack of pre-season, or the tragedy that happen to his family or even combination of all but every time he play he gets dominated against every defender, he's sloppy on the ball, his first touch not what it was.

In the past as a team you could sacrifice his lack of work rate and pressing to get lots of goals but now we aren't even getting that.

Just curious why promoting gambling a sell-out?

Imo gambling is quite fine if you're not addicted to. Might earn some bucks too.

People really can't handle differing opinions without descending into a full blown dramatic meltdown. We've had it multiple times with Neville now Keane and Rio.

Can't people just acknowledge they have their own perspective and know the shit their own team mates pulled across the years. I don't agree with them but they've far more context than the rest of us, immediately just flagging them as fanboys is ridiculous.

Neville campaigned for his mate Ole to get the job despite having no credentials for it, and campaigned for him to keep his job when it was clear we were wasting years under him. He was behind the "cultural reboot" and "likeable bunch of players" narrative that saw us waste 3 years and hundreds of millions all so one his mates could have a job he didn't deserve.

They're all as bad as each other.

I agree if Ronaldo was present for pre season I don't think this would have unraveled the way it did. He also should have spoken to the club privately about leaving, not in the media using Mendes as a mouthpiece to get a feel for interest in the market. ETH has handled this situation almost perfectly. He's not criticised Ronaldo and I believe wanted him sold in summer but as per Luckhurst report the hierarchy intervened.
