As has been said - wrong subs today.

Each one just made us go further and further back and struggle to hold the ball.

Fortunately didn’t matter this time - hopefullyETH learns from it

Not sure he got it totally wrong, the issue was more that Fred and McTominay are insanely inconsistent - if they’re having an off day (which there is at least a 1 in 2 chance of) it makes the whole team cease to function.

Fred on his day is a pressing, harassing monster but he most just dawdled, lost challenges and gave away the ball yesterday making the whole team play worse.

The one I disagreed with was leaving Ronaldo on all game, as we needed to defend from the front, but that’s a complicated one right now I suppose.

We’ll never know the outcome if he did it differently. We might be more exposed to their attacks and even worse, let Maguire man marking Antonio while giving Bowen spaces to run at.

I think TH has been affected by the Ronaldo incident. If that hadnt have happened, then around the 70 min mark he might have subbed him off for an extra body in midfield. I hope I am wrong, but he was ineffectual again, and would have been the logical sub. By having a mcfred midfield is like not learning from the past. One or the other, not both on the pitch.

Fair point but we did seem to get worse as the second half went on.

Apart from defending set pieces, Ronaldo is not much use in these situations - was surprised it wasn't him who made way.

I don’t think he has. He’s doing everything 100% the way he wants to.

Ronaldo should have gone off with Elanga

think our main issue was the general lack of quality when passing in the second half

I have been very critical of Sancho this season but Elanga today was worse. Bizarre that he didn't come on and instead opted for Bruno wide right.
Yeah, I expected Ronaldo to come off and Sancho to come on. Rashford's pace up top being a threat, he can roam right with Bruno coming inside and Rashford was struggling defensively for the final half hour, as he defends out wide like a striker.

Front 3 was done around 75'. They did nothing positive until the end of the game, we could've replaced all of Rashford Bruno and Ronaldo with Sancho Garnacho and van de Beek, or Malacia. We survived, but we look very tired.

Yeah, Garnacho up top would have been worth a shot. If Elanga hadn't started, I think he would have come on to defend and offer some pace on the counter. Other than him we don't really have that kind of Vasquez style winger to trust in that role when we're up a goal or two with 15 minutes to go, so he just shoves Bruno out wide as he'll run around and might create or score a goal, and he doesn't have to remove him from the game early every 10 days, which might become a thing.

What is he thinking here? A flat back 3, no full backs providing any sort of width, Bruno hugging the right side touchline, Rashford occupying the no. 10 position. Why overcomplicate things? :houllier:

Subs were not great.
But you think his life would be easier if we actually had a fit Martial, Antony and Sancho.

Oh and when we finally sign a fecking Centre Forward

I mean you can't say that he wasn't trying stuff ... Didn't work out at all though.

Unbelievably bad substitutions, he brings Maguire on up front it beggars belief really. Where is the planning from a supposed tactical genius

I'm surprised people say we had no game plan.
Clearly the idea was to get a goal, and then another goal. We did the job done in 50%.

ETH clearly wants to be another Pep, and he has a thing for Bruno.

Why are people posting on Internet forums and not managing Manchester United.

Baffling. What happened to his previous patience when we were on top? That’s one of the least ineffectual United performances I can remember. We had to score second half and had one shot!

I'm actually fuming

The funny thing about when managers do something like this is they have a coaching team. Have none of his assistants pointed out how utterly stupid these ideas are?

Gobsmacked with that 2nd half performance and the substitutions. How did Ronaldo get another 90 mins? Ineffective sub's, rashford running down blind alleys and giving the ball away countless times, mctomimey? Not even sure he touched the ball. Fred yet again constantly failing to beat the first man and Maguire up top just about summed that 2nd half up. Also can't recall the keeper having a save to make in the last 45.

If we were completely dominating possession and pumping ball after ball into the box, then maybe the Maguire sub makes sense.

However, we weren't and Garnacho had been one of the biggest threats on the pitch.

Poor subs from ETH.

Pure idiocy if he doesn't make a sub before the 30th minute.
