ffs....do any of us expect him to actually compliment a Utd player? he's a scouse bastard that wants to have a go at utd to deflect the pure shit that is flowing out of liverpool right now. Gomez back pass, losing to Forest and Leeds, Nunez having a stinker, VvD having a stinker, their ageing midfield

yet he wants to say Martinez isn't good on the ball, martinez might get caught out or pinned by a bigger player, casemiro is a steady eddie

fuking wank comments....martinez is outstanding on the ball with his distribution. yes, he may get caught every couple of matches but that is such a minor thing to all the other positives he brings on a game to game basis not a one off. If Casemiro is a steady eddie then what does he think of Henderson? Milner? Thiago? Modric? Fabinho?

To be honest he seems to get skinned by the other two when he’s on. If you like watching him squirm then stick it on.
Yeah it's his role to say controversial stuff and create "debate".

Has a pundit ever been “removed” for being so bad ?
This is reportedly his last season with Sky. I have a feeling that's why he's being even more of a wum on Talksport because he needs a new home.

"No one will remember ETH as Manchester United manager five years from now"... This is the one that's going to come back to bite you in the arse, Graeme. Just like the other Scottish 'pool legend 27 years ago.

Does anyone actually take anything Souness says seriously ? Yes he was a decent player but as a manager/coach/pundit/analyst he’s always been a fecking joke and always had a clear bias against our players, feck him.

Its good that Souness cant keep United and the players out of his mouth. For too long he has not had to talk about us because we have been so bad and Liverpool so good. Thats always the worst when they dont even feel the need to talk about it cos every man and their dog knows you're crap.

No, now we appear to be on a good road whilst Liverpool are hitting a bad patch he feels the need to start talking about us again. Love it!

I really hope we have a successful season to shut up large parts of poor excuses for football pundits who are writing off ten hag as a quality manager and martinez not being good/tall enough for the premier league and that man united are nothing without ronaldo.

I noticed a lot of the English pundits seemed more focusing on praising Maguire's average performance yesterday rather than martinez's joint motm display with dalot.

To be fair he was complimentary about Martinez too. He did say there was a lot to like about him and that he's improved us, that he liked the way he softened up Salah to the point where he was lookin round his shoulder all game. Saying he's not great on the ball was the nonsense bit about the whole thing

Sourness, again the guy is on talkshite, OK we've been pretty shit for years, and deserved the crap In parts.
There was a topic on talkshite when we stuffed the scum in preseason basically it was dismissed as just a friendly!! Well we move on a few months, and the scum have gone backwards and UTD have gone upwards.
Sourness being on the right platform in talkshite who say controversial things to goad listeners into calling in etc. They have a history of bad ex pros on there station. And Sourness is the top 1.

Souness is the only pundit who comes close to being as obnoxious as Simon Jordan. But while Souness actually has merit, Simon Jordan is just an arrogant idiot - always convinced he is right and anyone thinking otherwise is a clueless idiot.

It seems hard to believe a guy who played 40 years ago and almost destroyed Liverpool as manager 30 years ago, may not have the sharpest views about 2022 football.

I don't think he is that wrong about Casimero. Casimero have been very good and made our midfield more stabile. But he hasn't been worldbeater. He wasn't that in Real Madrid either and actually, that is not his role. He is there to give team balance and he has great football IQ. 7-7,5 of 10 every week? I'll have no problem to take that from a central (holding) midfielder. I think we need to ask us where line for good, very good and great goes.

When it comes to Martinez, I think he is wrong there. Martinez, with exception of game against Brentford, have been one of the top five signings in league so far. Brilliant.

Btw. Souness have great amount of medals. I don't think that should be talked about in this case.
Best players have the highest football IQ with great technical abilities. Casemiro has great technical abilities with great IQ.
I don’t know which lines you are speaking about.

Everyone will say Messi is god compared to Casemiro and that’s kind of true as the most difficult job in football is to score goals and be a spectacular and efficient attacker, and no one was better than Messi for this job.

But Messi won’t be able to do the job Casemiro is doing. He won’t have the same presence, placement and defensive work. And that’s is a real skill requiring high IQ and technical abilities. Plus, he has very good passing abilities. He is a great player with high standards and has been the best at what he is doing for a long time.

I kind of agree with what you say. But we can’t say that he dominates games. Not that he needs to. He is good at what he does. He brings stability and as you say, he got high football IQ. I get what Souness want to say. And what he means. He is not negative at all against Casemiro. Neither am I. Casemiro is still learning PL game and how his teamates play.

If you check what you have given him after his games, is he even above 7 -7,5 as Souness thinks he is every game? If you now give them rating points.

I don’t really know why people get so riled up by him. At this point it’s quite clear he’s a wind up merchant and gets a kick out of causing a bit of a stir. He fits in perfectly with the TalkSport model, most of them on there are the same.

How anyone is letting ‘He’s no world beater, he’s never a 9 or 10, he’s just a 7.5 in every game’ just slide away is mad.

8 talented players that are 7.5 in every game and you’ll win the league. It was literally Alex Ferguson ultimate compliment that he used for Denis Irwin.

Whilst I’m no fan of him at all, I don’t think age makes much difference in how good a pundit or coach you are in 2022 (if that was the case, fergie, wenger, ancelloti should have all retired in their 50s and given way to the likes of Rio etc).

There are plenty of young ex-player pundits who speak utter rubbish week in week out. if they’ve followed the game intensely and have the right wisdom and knowledge, which they’ll need to do (in theory) to be a pundit, their opinion and analysis should be listened too.

That being said, sourness’ comments are not to be taken serious and the one about Lisandro’s height was a joke considering one of the greatest defenders of the ‘00s in Fabio cannavaro was exactly the same height and his career is the stuff of legends.

Don’t know what dominating games for a player means as it’s a team game and you dominate as a team when you press and pass well, suffocating the other team, playing your game while not letting the other team play.
Sure Casimero is not the one who will spray the passes and making others play as Eriksen, DeBruyne,Modric, Scholes. He is the one who will block the passing lines and the sprints of the other team, not letting them develop their game and giving time to the team to come back from attack to defense (he is a master at that) while being good with the ball at the same time. It’s kind of rare quality to have and very beneficial for a team.
So I don’t know what Souness meant exactly but it’s kind of stupid to dismiss him as kind of average if it’s that. You can give plenty of players a 7/10 but it all depends of the qualities of the players. It won’t be the same 7 from McTominay and Casimero. So it doesn’t make sense to me. What I now is Casimero is precious alongside our deep lying midfielder.

Can’t take this serious…he’s been fantastic. His positioning and 1/2 touch passing has transformed us.

He actually said this? Why does he have anything against ETH? From a purely objective viewpoint, we're 3 points behind the third placed team and 1 behind the fourth placed team with a game in hand against both after having played all of the top 6 and Liverpool.

Maybe it's not amazing but at the very least it's steady. To top it off, all his signings seem to have settled. Granted, it's early days and may look different come the end of the season but given the evidence at hand I don't see how you make such a statement without having some agenda against the man.

I was thinking this very thing. I'll take a midfielder that gives us 7-7.5 every game. When was the last time we had a player that did that? Probably Bruno when he first came. You'd have to go back to Fergie to find anyone else.

He did. It was ridiculous. He said it in the context of backing Ronaldo and claiming Ten Hag and United were to blame and had created the situation after Ronaldo refused to come on and left the stadium before the end of the Spurs game.

'In five years time, no one will remember Ten Hag. Ronaldo will be remembered as arguably the greatest player who has ever kicked a football.'

He did it. He really did it!
Hard to argue against Souness on this when the Caf spent the last few years calling him far worse.

I think Pogba can rest his case with his World Cup medal but ‘pudding’ it is. . .

He’s got a very weird biased for British players and a very nasty hate for united players. I’m sure 90% of football fans must think he’s an idiot for saying stupid things but then when it comes to United the ABU’s will worship him!

I was recently reading a relatively new Roberto Baggio's interview (the guy rarely speaks about football these days). He said something that is top notch about pundits.

«Non guardo le partite, non mi divertono quasi mai. Mi mette a disagio dare giudizi sugli altri, non vado in TV. Vedo colleghi che sentenziano da professori, ma me li ricordo incapaci di fare tre palleggi con le mani».

"I don't watch games anymore as I rarely enjoy them. I feel uneasy to pass judgement on others which is why I never go on TV. I've seen former colleagues that try to pass themselves as professors of football. Yet I do remember them playing and they weren't even capable of doing three 3 juggles even if they used their own hands instead"

Which really makes me wonder. Why on earth is football punditry is filled with absolute donkeys (technique wise) such as Carragher, the Neville brothers and Hargreaves? In Italy things seem to have improved with the introduction of Fabio Capello, Del Piero and Di Canio but it still gave space to absolute idiots like Adani

What grinds my gears further is how they try to make themselves look so professional these days with touchscreen tv, and drawing lines and showing easy plays as if they know better. When I was young, watching football was just that, you watch your games, and then go home. Now there are endless hours of shallow punditry with these old farts who know jackshit about analytics or tactics, having to pretend they are experts simply because they are paid to do so. Just takes the soul out of the game.

This is what happens in my opinion. The likes of Carra and Gaz had lived in the shadows of far more talented players such as Giggs, Scholes and Gerrard since their childhood. What comes easy for the likes of Giggs would sound incredibly difficult for the likes of Gaz. When its time to burst into first team football, the talented players tend to attract the fans (and women), they end up making more money, they are treated better by the club (its more difficult to replace Scholes then Gaz) and due to their talent they achieved all of that with a style of football that is often less taxing on their body. This reverence towards these players is often hardcoded in them as they know very well that if there's a spat between Gerrard and Carra to an extent that the club will have to choose one between them then that choice will be quite natural for them. This reverence survive to this day with Carra refusing to criticise Gerrard even though he's a shit manager and with our own players struggling to criticise Ronaldo's form.

Once these players retire they notice that fans tend to forget about them quite quickly. Not to forget that the new generation of players are making far more money then they do. Thus they end up in punditry pouring their sourness and making themselves look like the football geniuses that they never were.

You rarely see real top talented players who had attracted the love of fans being so sour as pundits (I am referring to the likes of Cantona, Baggio, Totti, Ronaldo (Brazilian) etc). For them football was a fabulous chapter in their life, they came in and out of it with their ego satisfied for the rest of their life.

Footballing talent doesn't necessarily translate to punditry or even having any clue about football. Have you heard Scholes speak? He quite clearly has absolutely no idea why he was so good at the game.

I think the very best players are elevated to an almost god like status that makes them unrelatable as pundits. Theyre not like you or I, Neville and Carragher are. They're loveable idiots, happy to have their flaws acknowledged to make them more relatable. There's a little bit of the hero worship with Henry, but can you imagine if R9 got into punditry? Or Messi? Their name would overshadow anything they had to say. You'd just look at the screen and think 'that's Ronaldo', and so would the other pundits.

It's why managers make the best pundits. They have the knowledge but they don't have the status.
