That falls under the category "damning with faint praise" unfortunately, I'd personally rather have Ancelotti than Xavi obviously but he still historically is a borderline atrocious league manager everything taken into account. Him being better than Xavi isn't really being much of a praise to be honest.
Madrid since the 90s has the mentality of focusing european football over La Liga, just like AC Milan did with Ancelotti.

Still Madrid is ultra favorite to win the League, they have more quality than Barcelona, and Ancelotti has more experience than Xavi.

Barcelona still can challenge for the league, not just because of Ancelotti throwing away the league for european football, but because Barcelona is still better than 98% of the spanish teams, getting trashed by Madrid only means losing 6 points, you win the league by beating mid table teams.

And I agree that they are the favorites obviously, it's just the fact that Carlo won a grand total of 1 (one) league title while coaching that brilliant AC Milan squad for eight years straight that weighs on my mind.
Really? He only had the team to win the league between 02/03 to 05/06 and he was up against Luciano Moggi...

Him losing a league title at a (Quatari funded) PSG doesn't exactly inspire much confidence either.
Pretty unfair on him.

In the four seasons before Qatari ownership, PSG finished with 43, 64, 47, and 60 points.

In the first four seasons of Qatari ownership, PSG finished with 79, 83, 89, and 83 points.

Ancelotti began to manage them halfway through the 79 point season.

So a club that changed overnight was only a few points off what would be their average over the next four years (years which included much better signings), and this is supposed to reflect badly on a manager who was there for half a season?

Madrid losing to Rayo. Looks like it'll be another day of late Madrid drama.

I think that should be a red card, definite goal scoring opportunity if Carvajal doesn’t handle it.

Bad penalty.

I don't think handballs fall under that protocol? Not sure

Amazing what this Rayo manager is doing.

Always had a soft spot for them since late 90s and the Bee on their shirt but apart from the keeper and Florian Lejuene I wouldn't know any of their other starting players these days unless they start Bebe or Falcao.

Of course they had a very good start last season before slipping down the league but would be incredible if they could make europe for first time since 2000.

7 shots on target compared to Madrid's two is some going at Vallecas.

Oh do they not? I would have assumed they do in cases like that. My mistake if so.
I honestly don't know. But it's a penalty so it can't be a red card since it's an unintentional "arm is wide" deal. If it were outside the box, maybe

Isi Palazon is the player you need to learn about! Some player, he is.

Oh yes, you’re definitely right about that. Totally forgot.

Cheers Nick!

Palazon 28 next month so one of those late developers as he's mainly played lower league in Spain.

Madrid's Brazil boys certainly zoned out for World cup already with this finishing.

That was a long time coming, been very poor ever since the Barca game. Dunno if it’s players zoning out for the WC (Benzema seems that way) or just the wheels falling off for Ancelotti.

Same thing happened during his first stint, second season all seemed great up until January or something. Then it all came crashing down. If it does, Perez will fire him again after his second year

Barca are much better in La Liga. Control games, barely concede and score a lot.

I don't think anyone at Madrid played well today except for Valverde and Asensio I guess.
Valverde is great. Probably your best player this season. He struggled a bit in the past after a huge breakthrough season (and was also used at different position) but he's really materializing the potential he was displaying in 19/20.

So far, definitely. Which is I find the post on the previous post a bit strange the one that didn't think Barca can really compete with Madrid. Madrid have been getting a lot of late wins and at some point it's bound to catch up with them.

It was like that last season too, the truth is that though it looked like a comfortable cruise to the league title last season, big reason why is that we didn't concede nearly as much as we should have , and then you combine that with Barcas terrible first half.

Eeeh. I think we're gonna look very different after the world cup honestly. Barcelona are pretty much going at full tilt, we haven't yet. We'll see

Definitely they can win the league though, they're a 90+ points side

Feels like Madrid needs to add another forward soon. Their backup options aren't good enough and the lack of a natural right winger in the squad does limit them a bit at times.

Soon like last summer. To rest on last season's success is always the first mistake teams make. Benzema is 35 and Rodrygo is no striker, he has to play on the wing. It was a mistake to focus only on Mbappe in my opinion. LaLiga isn't decided in the clasico, but in those games against smaller opponents.
If we win tonight, we go as leaders into the long pause. I hope that is motivation enough for the team. But it will be difficult, Osasuna plays a strong season so far and has 5 wins and 2 losses at home.

Today is a very important game and when the World Cup is over, Barcelona has to visit Atletico Madrid and Betis.
Good results there can give a lot of morale to the team.

Osasuna going to run Barca off the pitch here.

Love watching Chimmy Avila, he'd do very well in premier league with his style.

How come La Liga isn't playing on the weekend?

Outside the box, the rule applies. Ask De Ligt, the thick cnut.

Bilbao are playing a Copa del Rey match on Sunday, so could be the same for all the teams, then not back until end of December.
