He hasn't even flattered, never mind deceived for about 2 and a half years but he's shown plenty in every game he's played since the start of pre season. We're giving everyone a chance to show what they've got under the new regime. Get with the programme.
Ok, he's brilliant, let's disregard everything that's gone before!!

Those dismissing Martial because he’s been inconsistent previously have to remember if we dismissed Dalot in the same manner, we wouldn’t be seeing how good he’s been this season.

Likewise when Martial has played this season, he’s been very good.

Every player deserves to be judged with the benefit of being managed by ETH.

Do you not feel that one has had a few more chances than the other?
I do. I also think it’s possible Martial could have people eating their words in the same way that Dalot has.

Obviously, he needs to find a way to not get constantly injured. Which is a bit of a long shot. And if that’s not possible then this whole discussion is a moot point.

Martial under Van Gaal = Very Good
Martial under Mourinho = Poor
Martial under Ole = Good
Martial under ten Hag so far = Very good

That's how I'd sum it up, and I believe we'd be so much better in the final third if he were available to us for the majority of games this season.

Can't remember when it was, and unfortunately, I can't find a quote to back up my evidence, but ten Hag likened Martial to Firmino, and we all know how Firmino stitched together Liverpool's front three.

You're the type of person that thinks just because Ronaldo scored tons of goals in the past he deserves to start now despite how shit he has been this season, aren't you?

Unironically, you're right. Ten Hag should definitely disregard everything that's done before and only select his players based on what they've shown this season, under him management, in his system. Past achievements can't score goals.

It's called meritocracy.

They're not wrong, in fairness. Very few of ours have flattered to deceive as regularly as Tony. On song he's good but the reality is that's been very infrequently.
It's been infrequent in large part due to horrendous coaching, no system, incorrect role, etc. Is it a surprise that the only real coach he had before, he showed a potential world class level under? He's at fault for some of it too and the fitness looks like it'll hold him back anyway, but I think it's very clear that Ten Hag knows how to get the best out of him right now, just needs to get fit. Hell even under Ole he was excellent in 19/20. But it was a system that attackers just couldn't be consistent. We see with Rashford now how Ten Hag has him stepping up. The same will happen with Martial when/if he gets fit, which is the main question.

The anomalous season is the cause for optimism. It is for me anyway. Him and Rashford have shown the potential to work very well together. Obviously Martial doesn’t seem to have the stones to excel with big names competing for his place in the team but given the perfect circumstances… I mean we can all see how talented he is.
Not sure that is ‘obvious’ at all, he’s earned his place and performed under adversity many times.

Let’s see what happens this season anyway. Perhaps if he plays well Ronaldo won’t be considered a big name.

This is just silly, no offense. I'm all for picking players based on form but to suggest disregarding everything that's come before this season just because he wasn't at the club to witness it is nonsensical. I've no idea what the Ronaldo point is about, btw, as it has zero relevance.

May as well sell him in the summer and sign two forwards. A decent backup striker who is always available when needed would be of more use than this guy

Didn't impact the game, but why he wasn't brought on for Ronaldo, I'll never understand.

Came on 3-1 down showed heart atleast a couple of times. Very hard to penetrate a parked bus when they’re 2 goals up aswell.

He should definitely start at Fulham. I'd send Ronaldo to train for the world cup a week sooner than we need to. He won't be missed.

Happy to see him back, hopefully next week he can start and play up front/close to the opposition goal.

You dont understand that and others wont understand that Ronaldo is taken of when you need goals. I suppose you can argue both sides... although i do think the Ronaldo gets you goals argument is based on the past and not on current Ronaldo.

Anyway, lets hope he stays fits and can form a forward line with Sancho/Rashford and Antony in the near future.

Tony didn’t look all that interested when he came on, perhaps concerned that if he exerted himself that he’d suffer another injury.

Did you see him sprint to press from the halfway line or didn’t you see him win the ball 3 times from the opposition. Did you watch him play did you not see that they were defending all the way back to their penalty box there was no space at all. We only hit long balls no one was playing one twos.

He's fragile but even if gives us 60/70 minutes a game it will be enough to secure 3rd or 4th this season, the club will need to fix the striker issue in the summer though as we can't go through another season of this.

We need a forward who can cover for him in January AND a Osimhen/Vlahovic type in summer

The best case scenario for us is Ronaldo fecking off in January rather than the summer. It seems slim, but if it happens the club will be forced to get ten Hag forward cover now and then a proper no.9 in the summer

How did Martial look when he came on as a sub on Sunday? I missed the game.
