So this is why his form has magically improved.

Good player when he can be bothered but that's not often. Get rid.

Bar his 2 good season's he's had for us, I'd have been happy for him to leave at any point. As long as we can find someone more consistent then he can leave

If we want to keep him, then we should give him a 5 year deal, and if not, then sell him. It makes no sense to be offering your 26 year old first choice, and England’s first choice LB a 3 year deal.
He's 27. You have to earn a long term contract, he's been with us for 8 years and all he's shown is inconsistency.

Don't believe this at all - the Everton link makes it unbelievable.

Shaw could go to a much better side than what Everton are, at the moment.

It is fairly clear from the comments from ETH and the general transfer buzz around the club that we have no interest in spending yet more money on the LB position. We need a GK, RB and probably at least 2 Forwards as priorities so we need to add LB to that list like we need a hole in the head, particualrly when Malacia looks so raw and far away from the finished article. Shaw is staying put and despite the flak he deservedly gets here at times, if he does leave it would be to a CL club and not fecking Everton.

Wouldn’t be too upset if he goes. Far too inconsistent. Might be good this season but awful next

Full back usually declined heavily at 30 , so it's unwise to offer anything longer than 3-year deal . Just look at Danny Rose , at 29 he was still starter for England, now 32 he is nowhere near top football.

We can execute the one-year extension and then cash out next summer. By the time, Malacia should be settled and ready for starter and we have A. Fernandes back from loan to step up as regular rotation.

Let him go, Malacia could be the future, if not get an cheaper alternative.

Shaw has never been good enough to warrant such outrageous contractors.

Malacia needs to show a hell of a lot more than he has so far just to be sure of being the backup for that spot going forward and Fernandez may be great in the final third but he is also a long way from being a regular PL starter. Fit and motivated Luke Shaw is still miles better than either one and if we "cash out" next summer we will probably need to take that cash and add more to it from what is likely to be a fairly limited budget just to buy a like for like replacement. The best outcome for Shaw and United is that he stays here for 3 or 4 more seasons and that is almost certainly what will happen.

5 years is a very long. Those type of contracts used to be reserved for star men who you didn’t want to even think about losing. 3 years with a +1 for the club is about right.

He doesn’t have to do anything. That is what he wants, and he can leave if he doesn’t get it. If we think he’s so rubbish or inconsistent, then sell him. Why are we trying to half-commit to him and expect him to be thrilled with that?

After all, we’ve had a long 8 years look at him as you have said. As far as he’s concerned, it should be either you believe in me or you don’t.

I love me some Lukey, and I think that on talent alone he is a world class LB but I can see why a 3 year deal is being offered.

He has spent most of his time here injured/unfit/unmotivated/too rotund to actually run. Therefore it makes sense to not tie ourselves to Luke and his saggy man-tits for half a decade lest he fall back into old habits once the ink is dry on the contract.

Of course, knowing our luck he'll feck off to Newcastle and become a model pro overnight.
If it makes all this sense not to commit to him, then don’t. But you can’t expect to be half-hearted and expect the player not to consider his options is all.

If all the club is going to do is sit down and rationalise why he isn’t worth a long deal, then he’ll likely talk to a club that actually desperately wants him.

We’ve got a year add on which we can activate so he won’t be going anywhere until 2024 at the earliest, pointless paper filler and a nothing story.

Has it? I think he stepped up when Malacia dropped, but think he's been a large part in most of the poor performances we've had this season.

Everton

He's better than that, Spurs or Newcastle would be all over him if he was available

Everton .. terrifying stuff.

Best of luck Luke. I'd rather see Malacia there than Jekkyl and Shaw to be honest.

It's about time we start calling these players bluffs and stop offering them deals they wouldn't get anywhere else

He would be such a good signing for Newcastle. Exactly what they need in that position if he can stay fit. I also really like Shaw and think on his day he’s in the top few LBs around. There is no doubting he has fitness issues and I doubt that improves as he ages. In absolute hindsight the time to sell Shaw was when his stock was high after the European Championship but that would have seemed like a totally crazy call at the time. We should have gone all in on Nuno Mendes as a long term option when he started breaking through at sporting.I think he’ll become world class or close to it over the next few years.

Surprised at how many people would be happy for him to leave on a free. He'll end up staying, probably a 3 or 4 year deal.

Yeah me too. Great player when he is fit and firing. Malacia ain’t even close to his level.

4 year deal, get it done. It would be stupid to create a problem at lb. We have enough of problems already.

In football as in life when someone continues to show you who/what they are believe them. He is not good enough for long enough.

Won’t happen but we should trigger his extension & fleece an Everton type in the Summer.

Big deal. If our new ETH driven approach is to let contracts run down till players prove their worth is a thing, we will see more stories like this, mot worth bothering with.

5 year deal or he's off to Everton....

See what other clubs offer him and if you don't want to match it let him f off. Not worth a 5 year deal at all.

I don't care what happens to Luke Shaw, beyond I'd be frustrated with what little we've learned if he's given a big 5 year contract. He's shown that his form is consistently inconsistent. More often than not he's in bad form.

Don't see the issue with a five year contract. All depending on the salary of course, but the length doesn't bother me

Shaw hasn't done anything that gives us a reason to give him a 5 year contract. He is inconsistent beyond believe. His Utd career is one of waiting for what could come and the sad part is that it will never come.

Are people actually believing this? If he leaves he could do far better than Everton. Christ! People will believe anything on here.

And we want to sell him so as not to hamper Malacia? I mean anyone with eyes should be able to see there's levels of difference between their abilities. If we do move on Shaw, Malacia isn't a replacement.

How about a three year deal with option of two more on our side? We already do the plus one year, so why not two.
