we played the first three games of the season without him and won two of those, so the statement in itself is wrong. But if we don't count those games, it's only 5 games without him ... two of which were thrashings by City and Liverpool, which would have happened with him as well. Then there was the final game against Palace, which was a dead rubber in every sense of the word. That leaves two draws against Villa and Leicester, which obviously weren't great results - but then again, it's not like we didn't have any of those with him in the team.
He skipped a couple of lost cause games so the stats look like he had anything to do with them being uncompetitive. Another one I'd like to add was the dead rubber game in the last CL group game where Ralf played only kids.

We drew that one 1-1 and I'm sure someone somewhere has a stat for us failing to register a win in 100% of the CL games Ronaldo didn't feature.

I haven’t made one post in this thread. I am not a Ronaldo fan boy, but he is tied up in so many great moments for me as a supporter.

i really admired his drive, determination and the sheer arrogance to challenge a player like Messi at the very top of the game.

The fact that he was developed and became one of the very best, from an unpolished teenager at my club, felt so good. We watched it happen.

I still felt that he had something to offer and it was so incredibly nostalgic having him back. In an era of synthetic clubs and blandness, it felt like a special moment.

He had completely destroyed that now. He is completely and utterly unable to get over himself and give back to a club that did so much for him, even at 37 years old.

I was never a fanboy, but I was a fan, and loved seeing him return. It’s gone now though. Any admiration and respect I had for him is gone. He couldn’t have been any more childish and selfish and he couldn’t have done it with anyone lower than Pier Morgan. It is a snake’s move.

Whatever happens or however we do it, we just need him out of the club by the time the league resumes. It doesn’t even matter how we do without him, he is the only rat that counts now, and we need him gone.

It’s so sad that it is ending this way, but absolutely all the damage has been done by one man, and he doesn’t deserve to be at a great club like United.
Great post mate.

Ronaldo apologists will also gloss over the fact that we scored 73 goals in 20/21, then regressed to 57 in 21/22 after signing him. Yes, he scored quite a few of those, but the attack as a whole suffered greatly in comparison to the season before. We had to alter how we played to accommodate him, and I would argue that every single attacking player regressed as a result. Just pointing to Ronaldos goal tally doesn't paint the whole picture.
Another problem with their argument is he had 18 goals, 18 goals that came in 11 games, he had 30 apps in the epl last season (he missed the 2 against Liverpool and 2 against City, which were most likely losses anyway). For a player that only contributes in goals that's a whole 19 apps where he doesn't contribute in any meaningful way to a football game because when he isn't scoring it's like playing with 10 men.

United and Ronaldo will most likely reach a compensation settlement, and I am sure Ronaldo will be receiving proceeds from all the television revenue his interview generates. Win win I guess?
Yeah how much do you think United should demand? At least half of what he got from Morgan I'd say.

Because people confuse being eloquent and articulate with intelligence. As a teen and a young 20-something, Rooney was not comfortable expressing himself, it was pretty obvious, and is probably an introverted person by nature who comes alive in his comfort zone (on the pitch), but when you looked beyond the form, it was quite evident he was a relatively bright person, who could be interesting in quite a few interviews.

I've not been particularly surprised at how well he's handled himself through this, or since he's moved into management.
This is very true. His few punditry jobs have shown that he speaks fairly well even he is not really media trained and his thought process his sound.

I'm no legal expert but I'd be shocked if we got out of his contract without paying anything. Would be too good to be true.

Which means that United won games without him in the team, last season. If anything the fact that we won games when he wasn't even near the building and then struggled, isn't a good look.
Just the Champions league alone - we don't win those games without him. The others were not stepping up at all.

You have no idea about it and it's beside the point made in the tweet you shared.

What I will say is that having watched a few minutes of it I cant believe how unbelievably cringe it is, never mind the content.
Its like a bad episode of Beverly Hills Wives, Morgan is like something from Anchorman. Tabloid hack has done a great job of making an absolute mug from Ronaldo and Ronaldo should look back on this when he grows up and be mortified with embarrassment, and as for the content , thats all garbage too and he knows it.

Ronaldo's top level career is most likely over i'd expect, cant see any reputable club going near him after this.

Thats me done in this thread now - cant be arsed giving it any more time.

Gary Neville? He was extremely soft in his criticism
He was criticising him as far back as August after the Arsenal game v Palace.

Has he ever had a stance against a former player as he's taking v Ronaldo?
Read between the lines, he stirred shit with Ronaldo he never did with any other ex teammate.

I've been saying this for so long, the end of the season clouds what was a horrific winter from him

'tis a silly place
Because he wasn't a United player yet obviously.
You're being disingenuous and not discussing in good faith: You retweeted that United didn't win a game last season without Ronaldo. This has been disproven. Your 'obviously' doesn't mask the fact that you don't even seem to know what your own argument is.

He wasn't.
He was giving a fair evaluation of him. Shit stirred my arse.

If it's not possible to break the contract without paying huge amount to him, I'd say humiliate him. Make him train alone, send him for last couple of minutes in the match. If he refuses, make him pay large fine. Make him beg for divorce without alimony. :p
Manchester United had good amount of part in making the player he is today. He's just one of the many best players United have produced.

Between Perez quotes and the alleged Mourinho outburst against Ronaldo, does this interview and specifically the way he acted has if he knew better makes you wonder if he was already like that at Madrid? And maybe the world didn't spot who was disrupting Madrid's dressing room at the time?
It was Casillas at the time, it was pretty clear when his girlfriend started to leak information about the dressing room without revealing her source.

He was also playing at a very high level so it's not quite the same, although I remember Zidane talking about Cristiano complaining a lot about his tax situation. and wanting a similar deal like Messi had at Barcelona. So when he left it was more about money and the club considering it wasn't worth it. So it's a different situation as right now he's an old player pretty close to retirement.

urm okay... is that the balance of losing then?
Cut tweet
With him we won Newcastle, WHU, Villareal, Atalanta, Spurs, Villareal, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Norwich, Burnley, Brentford, WHU, Brighton, Leeds, Spurs, Norwich, Brentford. (18 games won)
With him we lost against Young Boys, Aston Villa, Leicester, Liverpool, City, Watford, Wolves, Atletico, Everton, Arsenal, Brighton. (11 games lost)
With him we drew with Everton, Atalanta, Chelsea, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Southampton, Atletico, Watford, Chelsea. (10 draws)

In the first 3 games last season we scored 7 goals, (5 Leeds, 1 Southampton, 1 Wolves)
Remaining 35 games with him we scored 50 goals! Total: 57 goals.
Season before we scored 73 goals.

People say "without him we end 10th last season" right...

Yes, there’s no point in the club paying him off for slandering it. If he wants to receive the remainder of his contract, he can go and hang out with Phil Jones and rot. He has no power.

Haven't watched any of it as I can't take anyone who does a 2 hour interview with Piers Morgan to whine about their 3rd world problems seriously. Particularly not when it's a spoilt millionaire.

Just the main points he makes are all over the place though. Poking fun at Rangnick then being confused why the club execs weren't too endeared to him after. Slagging off everything about the club then claiming he was happy and looking forward to a good season?

He's going to tank Portugal at the WC as well since evidently his ego overrides whether the team do well, and they've been dumb enough to endorse that by having him as captain.

Tbh my main take from this is that if this is how he was behaving last year, then the shite attitude from most of our players basically stemmed from Ronaldo being a complete bellend and dragging half of them down with him, and probably completely falling out with the other half
