So what’s the craic with them? Where are they imported from?
Probably along the lines of what @Kopral Jono posted.
I mean it’s not the worse thing in the world and it’s a good idea to try and boost the atmosphere but because you know it’s so fake it doesn’t really come across as a positive thing.

I guess in the end Qatar couldn't even make it an hour into the tournament without revealing what an utter farce this is. Impressive.
Imagine paying 220bn to embarrass yourself on the biggest stage - not only as a football team, but also a hosting country, with the coverage being overwhelmingly negative. Loving the fact this might be the most counterproductive and most expensive PR stunt by a bloody regime that will fail spectacularly.

They recruited both trainer and fans from around the world? Wouldnt be easy to recruit “ultras” of one club?
That would be the more sensible approach so probably. Recruiting an entire group of ultras from one club knowing what ultras are like probably wouldn’t be the smartest move. Probably got a small number of ultras to lead things then used normal folk for the rest..

It's not like they need a professional choir. It'll be enough to buy one or two capos and then staff the stands with some locals and give them a little crash course beforehand, so they now the songs.

I reckon that might only be in the west.

That may or may not be true with regards to human rights and dead workers, but I don't see how you could sell atrocious football, tent housing at premium prices and empty stadiums as a positive to anyone.

Empty stadium, team outclassed by Ecuador, tents instead of hotels.

In short they have shown thus far, that they aren't up for it in terms of football, atmosphere or hosting,.

The atmosphere in the stadium was terrible, like a friendly game. Same as the quality of the match

Apparently, but it's hard to gauge what is true and what isn't when it comes to this edition of the World Cup. As far as I'm concerned what I posted there could be fake news, who knows, and for what it's worth I don't buy the 'fake fans' claims doing the rounds last week (us Indonesians go batshit crazy for national teams of other countries, too -- @Sky1981). In any case, what I'm trying to say is I wouldn't be surprised if the host pull something like that off, knowing full well that there probably isn't a grassroots support for the national team.

Let's assume that it's true. Is it farcical? Yes. Does it add to the atmosphere? Also yes. I don't necessarily think it's the worst of ideas, to be honest.

I don't think money is a motivator for this WC for Qatar. I'm not sure they would be bothered if the stadia were half empty if it was simply about money.

Good on him?? I mean the headline not you Game.

If he was at a ground in Europe sitting amongst opposition fans and did that, assuming it's about bribery, he'd have got his face smashed in. He's there with what looks like his daughter too. What an idiot

Let's face it, aside from the knock out rounds with the bigger teams this is probably the highest capacity game we're going to see. Expect feck all atmosphere.

I would genuinely have the vuvuzelas back at this point.
I dunno, that was almost physically painful to listen to. I'd rather nothing.

Atmosphere seemed underwhelming, with all the fake Qatar fans choreographing.

Even South Africa 2010 opening game had better atmosphere.

Hope the atmosphere gets better tomorrow that real english ,welsh, dutch, iranian, and american fans will be there

Not that surprising that the atmosphere in this game was bland seeing as the vast majority were supporting Qatar and they are completely useless

The Poznan style local crew was unexpected and amusing though !

A lot more Ecuador fans than I expected. Latin American fans travel well to the world cups.

Anything is better than the vuvuzela's, even plastic fans or empty stadiums in Qatar.

And where exactly in Europe he’d be smashed in face for a suggestion a ref was bribed, even sitting amongst oppo fans? get real, I think all across the continent as we all in the UK and Ireland we all shout shit like this constantly and often without too much ground to it  from my experience watching games in Poland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, England and Portugal it’s really nothing and you exaggerate a lot. Nobody gets physically attacked for stuff like this, in fact you very rarely see violence on the stadiums these days.

He would have got something over just somebody telling him to shut up and sit down. And not just at Millwall away. In Italy, France etc they would not have been so polite. He may not have had a physical beating there.and then but in some places he would have been pissed on etc

He is there with his kid. He is an idiot

There are definitely games in France and England where he would've been beaten up. an away fan talking smack in the middle of home fans is not a clever thing to do. For all those people disagreeing, why don't you do it next time you go to a game and record it ?

I must have imagined the coins and lighters and what not throwing at rival fans sat separately, and players at games.

It's never been about money. That's sort of the point. For FIFA execs - yes. Greedy, corrupt, gluttonous pigshit feckers one and all.

But for the Qatari's, the Emirs and Sheikhs - I'd argue and I'm sure they'd even agree it's about status. When you are at that stratosphere of riches, how else do you measure your worth as a human being anymore - at the golf tournaments and networking meetings these guys go to it's not about how much money you make. You might own an island. Great, but which island? You might own a Ferrari. Wow good for you - but is it a one of only five Ferrari's ever made, that's been custom built for you?

Then you come to football clubs, and that's what Manchester city are, as pathetic as a little toy for an Arab Sheikh, and that is why nobody in the football world has or ever will give two shits about anything they do. They're a way for the Mansours to boast when they are flying with their friends, to chuckle about lightheartedly.

At their level? It's about status worldwide and hosting a world cup is a great look. It's something to brag about. The money is a total irrelevance to the Qatari's themselves. It's the equivalent of Dean at work having the best iphone every time a new one comes out, or driving an M3 on finance. It's about the look.

Even if it is an "exaggeration" that he would have had his face smashed in its still not a clever thing to do with a young daughter by your side.

No way there wouldnt have been some retribution though.

Somebody telling you to shut up and sit down would be the most blessed thing to happen to you, let's put it that way.

There’s a second part to this video where the same fan is making some sort of apology to the Sheikhs he upset. I wonder what was said to him…
Probably the other way around. That guy realized he just embarrassed his country in front of the world by cursing at a father in front of his kids over a joke.

The only thing that I approve of is the notion that we westerners are by default patronizing other parts of the world when we claim, rightfully from any angle other than some sort of a moral one, that the WC should logically be held only at a country that is suitable or capable of doing so to a decent standard. We've got Europe, North America, Australia & NZ, Russia, Japan, Korea, and Egypt I'd guess... These are all places where the infrastructure is sufficient or could be made to be, and religion & state would be sufficiently unrelated to accommodate the masses that'll come watching...

But indeed, What the hell do you do, as an imaginative uncorrupt and transparent parallel FIFA, When certain Middle Estern, African, Sout American countries want to exercise their just (in some ways) right to host an international tournament? How can you justify ruling them off straight off the bat?

This argument I can live with, problematic as it might be to actually hold onto when you take everything into account.

Every other aspect of this WC is a complete and utter abomination. Words cannot even begin to describe it. It's borderline funny if it wasn't so sad.

You said he’s have his face ‘smashed in’. International games I’ve been to people love a bit of banter and making a bribing sign is just that, this is a sober crowd as well with zero rivalry between the teams. I get if this was Holland Germany or Argentina Brazil but it’s not.
