It has been hard for Sancho to get settled because he always seems to get minor knocks injuries that keep him out for a few games.

He really needs to focus on his body and fitness so post WC he can be fit and ready to play game after game. Consistency is required from Sancho.

I am not worried about the quality, that will come.

I think it would help if he looked bothered himself. Like angry, frustrated or at least mildly disappointed, with himself when he makes a mistake, at the moment he never looks like he could give a feck.

It may come but it will probably come with a different team. Garnacho's emergence relegates him to a depth role that he won't be happy with. I don't hate Sancho by any means but the sentiment shown in this thread is more appropriate for last season. The shape of the team ahead is unlikely to accommodate him. He'll be squeezed out most likely in the summer by being sold to recoup some cash for improvements.

Give him the number 7 and watch him torch the league. Sometimes all one needs is confidence and belief when they're down to repay that tenfold as a result.

I don't see problem with Sancho. Slight drop in form. It happens.
He is great talent and soon will be our key player
No, no, and no. And if he is only having a 'slight dip in form', then when he 'was' on form he must have been mediocre also.

Sancho is simply out of his depth at United, and we should look to offload if we can get anywhere near the price we paid.

I think he has been given plenty of leeway by our fans and he will continue to get some for the rest of the season I would have thought. The knives are hardly out among the support. The difficulty may be through media narratives, which are partially through his own making as he underperforms. The other is that he has to convince the manager, not us. ETH does not seem to be a man that takes prisoners.

He has to accept there are huge expectations on United footballers, particularly the ones that are purchased for extravagant fees. That's not his fault that we paid so much, but that is the lay of the land and you either deal with it or you fall away.

The problem I have with Sancho is he's not fit enough. That's totally unacceptable to me. If you want support, you want an increased likelihood that fans will give you more time and patience...it's pretty easy...get fit, and run. Start with the simple habits and then maybe the more expansive stuff will come.

There has to be give and take between fans and players/the team. We have to support, back them where reasonably possible. But they have to give us some understanding that they're doing everything to be successful. That's how you have a good relationship and it's hard to say with a straight face that Jadon has left everything out on the pitch or training ground.

I'd argue that Sancho has largely been supported by the United fan base. While he has struggled to perform at the expected level, the fans have generally been preaching to give him time and he will come good, just look at his Dortmund days etc etc. Even now, he isn't getting any sort of abuse like some players have received.

For me it is simply we support him when he is on the field, but it falls to him to improve his performances so that he actually gets picked.

I think he got enough support for someone whom the club has already invested nearly 110m on him to date (transfer fee + wage)

Tbh, I think Sancho is just a bit of a 'meh' player. I mentioned this on the transfer thread prior to him arriving but, what does he actually do well; by this I mean to an elite level?

For me, he doesn't really take anyone on, his fitness isn't outstanding and he isn't tenacious enough for the league.

Imo, he falls into the Werner category where he looked good in Germany because of the style of play over there with more open defences but once you take the space away from him to exploit you have a player with no real discernable talents that warrants the fee/wage he did.

People are struggling with their gas, water and energy bills as the uk goes into a recession and we should mourn and say our prays for a guy who's paid 350k a week and can't be bothered to track back, work hard and turn up fit enough for pre season and pulls a sickie every time the heat gets turned up in the kitchen where's expected to produce after we spent over 75 million.

He'll get my support when he starts working hard and proving he's deserving of being employed by United.
We chose to pay that fee, we chose to give him those wages, which English people like you should be grateful for as it keeps the Gov from hitting you with a higher tax rate.

Show an example of your ridiculous claim "pulls a sickie every time the heat gets turned up in the kitchen" as that's crap right out of trumps book of bullshit.

Every Utd fan will give every player a fair crack of the whip, but lack of effort is something which will turn fans quickly against a player....

Under ETH Sancho has the best chance to succeed, if he ain't up to it so be it, it is on him to show up and knuckle down, he will get all the support in the world if he does that

Application and trying have to come first, it never worked out for Forlan but he ran himself into the ground every game and people got behind him. If he's going to pass the ball backwards instead of running at the fullback he's going to find support hard to come by

I'm not english just speaking for the people.

The times he pulled out of games last season when he suddenly developed tonsillitis towards the end of the season(which lasted for over a month) when he was starting put in stinkers and people began asking questions. This season again he's put in stinkers and forced eth hand to drop him and instead of turning up to fight for his place, he's suddenly ''ill'' again.

You can say we chose to offer him those wages, but I'm sure the club didn't go in there and say here take 350k a week, there are agents for a reason and I'm sure he got his agent to push for the best deal he could get as to what he believed matched his value in his head. So obviously he believes he's a 350k player, and we're yet to see any production value that matches his wages, the boy can hardly be bothered to track back.

I hope he comes good as he seems like a likeable guy, but personality aside, his professionalism or lack of does not deserve sympathy

I agree we should back him but I don't think he's been mocked by any oppo fans has he? I think most people at our club are at the "very concerned but hopefully he turns it around stage" rather than "he's awful" (which isn't true obviously).

I think from reading between the lines he may be suffering mental health difficulties of some nature and some of the vague illnesses are just to cover up. I think that is what the OP means by we need to support him, because he may be going through something at the minute. I know Rangnick mentioned he had lost someone dear to him late last season and I've heard rumours in the past of him having some mental health issues.

When I think off it, the only player I can think of that had depression or any sort of mental issue openly was Deisler (who ended up retiring) and it wouldn't be surprising if clubs just made up injuries to cover for players in these circumstances.

I’ve definitely heard someone (I think it was Peter Crouch) say in an interview before that this does happen all the time. Whether a long running thing or a “niggle” that isn’t disclosed what if it doesn’t last.

I agree. I think Sancho has had more slack than a lot of other players have had or would get.

No real pressure or scrutiny from the media and fans haven’t really got on his back in the stadium. He just hasn’t performed and been missing in a lot of games. Whatever the reasons are, I still hope he can turn it around. But ultimately he’s going to either rise or fall based on the performances he’s able to put out.

I know it’s often used as an excuse these days but I even wonder if he’s got some sort of mental health issues that is affecting him

Edit - I see that someone else has raised this already

If it is mental health issues, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised. It’s arguably the most difficult era for a player to deal with the pressure of being a top level footballer. With social media such a large part of everyone’s life, you can just imagine the impact it would have on players. We’re seeing a rise in depression and anxiety just among the lay person often influenced by social media.

I can see mental health issues becoming even more prominent in top level footballers in the years to come. The internet is a very unforgiving place.

No the op was crying about him losing form and him having to see rashford and Saka perform better. He never alluded to mental health, just said the backlash on social media is unfair, I've not seen much of it to be honest. If anything he's been protected. If the op made stances for Maguire and rallying calls for him to be supported when he was and is still going through public ridicule then I could give a bit more credence to his argument.

But what this sounds like is that the op's favourite player is getting called out and found out and wants to hear no criticism from anybody

Sancho should get a free pass for now. He's only 22 years old and no one did well last season anyways. He's also a year younger than Dalot and look how he turned things around! It's not like we're spoilt for attacking options either.

Apologies but I just don't buy this. Of course he's bothered, he's just struggling. This was the same rhetoric for Rashford and I didn't buy that either.

I think taking himself off social media is a good first step, pull away from all of the superfluous bullshitbthat comes with being a footballer, spend time with family and friends and get back to basics, he will come good

What a fall from grace

Foden, Saka etc are in Qatar playing in the World Cup and he's training at Rosmalen
Him taking the initiative to get off social media and focus on training and improving, likely with help from the coaching staff going to Holland and all, rather than wallowing in self pity or lashing out in the press is commendable to me personally...

Training on holidays and focusing on his fitness and other facets of his game under coaches recommended by ten hag himself.

Attila on Redcafe - “what a fall from grace.”

Would have preferred him going to Bahamas and getting hammered rather.

I very much agree with the idea of the thread. Hes still young...hes shown plenty of flashes...amd frankly hes one of the best players we have taking the ball into the penalty area. Ive often thought a more central role might suite him, but I fee like he hasn't been so bad to deserve some of the hate on here. Very important part of our future IMHO
