France v Australia BBC1, Jonathan Pearce. Best commentator so far by a mile.
Not just who passed to who. And not talking non stop for the sake of it. But such a treat to listen to him.
Excellent.
He always sounds so miserable.

I don't get that impression. But clearly you do so accept your point.
Edit. I think he is a Bristol City fan. Enough to make anyone miserable....

American commentators are so poor. Have to watch on Peacock in the US in Spanish for much better commentary.

Getting really tired of the commentators constantly moaning. Appreciate this World Cup is controversial, but they’re choosing to complain about every single thing.

Commentator in the Argentina game reckoned Saudi’s were using “every trick in the book” when the defender was nearly knocked out. Keown now reckons this ref isn’t strong enough to overturn VAR.

Give it a rest. If I have to hear about the Harry Maguire penalty one more time…
Yeah it's a joke really, think I will just stream a foreign feed from now on.

Also ITV being d*ickheads and asking Dutch fans what they are doing in Qatar and why they aren't boycotting. They've become rabid.

Messi and Neymar might not always work hard but Mbappe? HE DOES.

Why do we have to suffer these clueless commentators?

Possibly the worst collision I've ever seen in football. Genuinely thought there was a chance the fella could have died and the GK was devastated about it. Couldn't believe Matterface saying he was using every trick in the book before catching himself on

I’ve always preferred Jonathan Pearce’s calm and intelligent style of presentation, equally Kelly Somers has been very good at interviewing the former players on the pitch side.

Eni Aluko and Jermaine Jenas do my head in. Just waiting for Sam Matterface to show up to complete the trinity.

Laura Woods, Alex Scott and Nigel De Jong have been the highlights so far.
Laura is always a highlight

The best experience is to watch the game in another language that you don't understand. Sad that the only choice I have is Fox Sports, I would rather watch without the commentary if I had an option.
Have to agree. Especially with this guy on Fox, who insists to pronounce foreign names with his fake accent. Drives me fecking crazy. He butchered the dutch names and is now doing the same thing with Germany. Just talk normal.

Nice tip, thanks, because the Fox commentators and pundits are fecking horrendous. Derek Rae currently, and he’s about the best they have with Ian Darke, Kate Abdo in the studio is brilliant, but Aly Wagner, Carlo Lloyd, John Strong, Stu Holden, Landon Donovan, are all fecking horrendously bad. The worst of the worst is Alexei Lalas though. He’s so thick, yet opinionated, that I actually find it offensive.

Fox’s coverage is so bad that it makes me actually want to miss games.

Lee Dixon from the Lawrenson/Murphy school of seemingly hating football
Yep. If you hate the game that much, step aside and let someone who is articulate (shallow pool admittedly) and enjoys the game to co-commentate instead.

ITV had McCoist and some other fella doing a crap Statler and Waldorf impression.

Lineker is milquetoast as usual. Richards laughs a lot.

RTE can't afford a table and chairs.

Who is annoying you? Who is entertaining? Who provides good insight?
no idea how you can describe Lineker as that... do you follow his socials?

Jenas and Dublin are terrible co-commentators, surely the BBC could do better than them. McCoist and Hartson were good today.
I prefer Dublin to the others you mention. McCoist is too scared to say anything: "I think, well I need to see it again..." about a dozen times a game. Doesn't tell us anything we don't already know. The radio guys are much better - I think it was Stephen Warnock yesterday and he was excellent. I recall the days the Beeb had Gullit and Klinsmann, who was fantastic

Hartson was ridiculous tonight. Partizan in the extreme. Called Bale’s booking a ‘good tackle’, and the general reaction Bale scoring a penalty was even worse than the Harry Kane media.
I find Hartson unbearable

Not sure why Matterface kept trying to say it's a bigger upset than Argentina/Saudi Arabia.

I used to hate Pearce when he was on Capital Gold Sport but he's much better these days. He is really good in the WSL, shows respect to his pundit/co-commentator who played a game he didn't. Fast becoming my favourite although I'll always miss David Coleman (and to a lesser extent Motty, before he went Talkshite mad, and Barry Davies)

Doesn't offer much insight but at least he sounds happy to be there rather than miserable fecks like Danny Mills/Murphy (I don't know the difference).
Exactly that!

Lee Dixon the other night was so miserable. And just now, Chris Sutton constantly kept on having a go at Japan "if they're so negative why even bother coming to the world cup".

Glad it wasn't just me who noticed that last night!

Matterface is an awful commentator.

Don’t really know about insight but Seema Jaswal and Laura Woods are good to look at.

Exactly. Fox is just atrocious. My belief is it's a combination of American sports commentators being trained to be so bland and neutral that they completely lack the passion.Plus they are used to just filling in dead space with endless stats instead of actually making calling fast paced action that they have no idea how to actually call the game like Europeans or South Americans.

100% - the only saving grace is I don’t have to listen to him during the games. Unfortunately, not the same with Warren Barton. The worst of the worst during games, IMO.

Rio, Kompany and Lineker having a great debate in BBC iplayer after the Belgium v Canada game. Then you have Alex Scott just waffling. So annoying.

Jenas sounded tonight like he was being forced to commentate at gun point. Miserable twat.

He's as miserable as Danny Murphy and offers all the insight of Paul Merson. How he gets on fecking everything as host/pundit/commentator while being equally shit at every job will always baffle me.

Bang average player, miserable commentator and awful awful pundit. I don’t know why and how he gets so many shows given the career he had.

I thought it was funny earlier when the commentator was explaining that the VAR team was made up of officials from seven nations .... while the White Stripes riff to 7 Nation Army was playing over the sound system
