Nothing more knee-jerk than people wanting players based on their performances at international tournaments, it's fun though.
Well people have been downplaying his terrific league form and now want to downplay his ability on the world stage, been strange to see when the talent is clear to everyone including our manager

Yeah this guy would fit Ten Hag's system like a glove. Looking more and more like a must buy.

no-one in particular
Because he‘s from Rotterdam
@KirkDuyt is from Den Haag actually, but I suppose it doesn't matter too much re. dislike for Amsterdam.

For what it's worth, it's nowhere near my favorite city in the Netherlands either. I imagine it's interesting and fun for tourists though.

I'd rather him over Depay, and he can battle it out with Martial (if he can stay fit). Hopefully still buy an actual striker in the summer and maybe look to move Martial on (I like him but too injury prone). Gapko becomes a very good squad option across the forward line then. Maybe even the main LW if, as I hope he does, ETH gives Sancho a go playing at 10 (which I think in the PL is the position most suited to him). Either way these signings are important as they allow us to get rid of guys like Elanga (love his attitude, but not good enough) and build a squad that can challenge on all fronts.

I feel the same about Timber, we don't need him over Varane but we absolutely do if it means moving Maguire on and having a player good enough to push the starters in that position.

Everyone knows that Groningen is the best city in the Netherlands.

Well can he play as a number 9? Is that where he mostly plays? Do we need another left winger?

https://www.whoscored.com/Players/352825/Show/Cody-Gakpo

This suggests he plays pretty exclusively out left, one game as a central striker all season.
Use eyes, not stats. He has everything to play as a 9. Right now, he is the best that's available, even as a 9. Remains to be seen how much for, but as it stands PSV can demand whatever they want for him. We could have gotten him in the summer on the cheap with no competition.

Despite his big frame, I don't think he has much physicality to bother a lot of PL defenders. Not really top level pace, and his dribbling technique can look fairly clumsy too.

His shooting, passing and crossing technique seem brilliant, though. I wonder if Ten Hag thinks he can make a striker out of him who drops deep, threatens from range and gets more than his fair share of assists, in a Kane type mould.

I mean it's a valid question. A player can be a good player and still not be a smart signing. We have left wingers. We need a striker.
Agreed. If anything he seems very similar to Rashford: more comfortable from the left, can play up top if playing on the counter but otherwise can't play with his back to goal.

A lot of people want Rashford out yet want to sign his clone. Odd forum at times.

"We don't need him. Can he even play as a 9”

This place...
Can he play no9? No
Is he better than Bruno? If so, is it worth it to spend 50 mil and bench one of those?

He is left winger. We have 3 or 4 left wingers already. It is not that he is not good enough. It is about what to do with him and who (and how to sell).

I think we'll be in for him in January. Seemed like we were in for him but Ronaldo couldn't be moved which I'm sure effected it

Direct quote from him

"I was close to leaving, I spoke to Erik ten Hag a few times at Manchester United," Gakpo said "In the end the deal didn't go through, which was a shame, for me and my development, and because Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, but also for PSV, because to transfer a player to Manchester United is a good thing for the club.

If he can play no9 and ETH sees him as no9 then i wouldn't mind that we go for him. But again, is he better on no9 than some other options like Osimhen or Leao or whoever?

I don't get people wanting rashford out anyway. But yeah. Gakpo scored a great goal but hasn't shown any hold up play. It's something that takes time to develop, but I just don't think he's that sort of player. Very good technically with crossing, passing and shooting of course, good movement, but Netherlands visibly lack Memphis here for me simply due to his hold up play.

If ETH wants him that's enough for me considering Ten Hag has been pretty spot on with his signings so far.

Even though Gapko plays on the left, maybe ETH can see him suiting a striker role in the future or even using Rashford more and more as a striker. We have options on the left but if Rashford moves to CF alongside Martial (who is picking up a lot of injuries) then we only have Sancho and Garnacho for the left. This would give us:

LW : Gapko, Sancho, Garnacho
RW : Antony, Sancho (also a RW option) and Elanga
CF: Rashford, Martial

His biggest weakness is that he is named Cody, but not with a Brazilian flag next to his name. Or perhaps Gancho. If he were, the Caf would be creaming themselves at the prospect of getting him, even for a 100 million.

The muppets on here have thrown all the logic out of the window. He's scored two nice goals but I've closely watched his general game to see if he'll be a fit up front and I still can't see it.

Like you said if we needed a LW then I'm absolutely on board but we don't and he doesn't look a striker to me and that's what we need.

Maybe he can be molded into one but anytime I've watched him his hold up play has been non existent.

Because of course, the caf has never been excited about the prospect of signing a Dutch player.

Never, it never happened. Not this summer and definitely not every other summer.

His best comp is probably a more physically imposing Heung-min Son who I'd have killed to sign over the years and won a golden boot in a similar role
