If he had a single brain cell he'd have accepted a squad role at United and end his career with dignity helping out where required. Now he's ending it in the middle east. What a tragic end to an incredible career.
Tragic in what sense? He’s going to Saudi Arabia (if true) at 38.

Messi is going to MLS (if true) at 36.

He’s played at a high level in Europe longer then anyone. Most players are retired at 38 and he’s about to go get the nuggets contract in the history of the sport.

I would love for him to stay in Europe but this is hardly “tragic”

Has this Saudi thing been reported by any reliable journo? I only saw Marca saying he's accepted.

People will say he's got enough money as it is but it's hard to say no to that kind of offer, especially him being 38 and no big clubs from Europe interested in him. Shame he wasn't willing to do it back in summer and spare us all the circus.

Ronaldo going to earn more money than Redcafe combined will do in a 100 lifetimes
False.

Kopral Jono is about to receive much more dividends this year after he fired 7 employees for talking quietly.

Ronaldo making sure he gets the status that he is richer than Messi at all costs. No more Champions League unless UEFA do a FIFA and allow the Saudi club to play in the CL next season

Ronaldo going to earn more money than Redcafe combined will do in a 100 lifetimes, playing football in a land of summer and opulence. Not quite sure why he would turn that down. I would take that money a million times over.
I'd take the money too if I was Ronaldo, already done everything in the game really.

The cash is too much to say no to.

Saudi is a very boring place to be though.

That's fair enough but it makes a mockery of his hankering to leave United for CL in the first place.

The way it ended at United of course.

Saudi Arabia hardly strikes me as some opulent, tropical paradise.

When you have infinity money in the bank account, you can get the luxuries you want
It's genuinely a very boring place though, they only reintroduced cinemas about 2 years ago? they had no cinemas in the country for 30+ years.

Women just got the right to drive, it's still a heavily under male guardianship (obviously this doesn't apply to Ronaldo and his family) but I'm saying the country is pretty backwards and its a no fun zone really.

It's one thing to take a career-end payday at a lesser league. A lot of players bow out their career that way.

It's another to take that payday in the context of all the entitlement and self-delusion we've seen from Ronaldo over the last few months, where he seemed to all the world like someone who thought he could still hack it at the highest level. That's why this move would prompt derision, because it seems at odds with his own idea of his current ability.

Which would be the case in any country, really. Still can't kiss your partner in public.
I don't see Ronaldo going out in public and kissing her though, he will stay in his mansion away from the rest of the population.

It's what you do with your kids, because its literally just sand, its too hot to go outside in most of the year around noon.

Life is just malls and it's not like he can go there because everyone knows him.

The money is sportswashing again but when you realise that they're paying Ronaldo pretty much a half of the money they spent on Newcastle its absolutely bonkers.

Messi still doesnt need to go to MLS, he's still playing at a high level, unlike Ronaldo who no club in Europe wanted. And I love how you have the need to keep bringing Messi into it anyway.

When you're absurdly wealthy and have protection from the government, the rules don't really apply. You can have as much excitement air-freighted to you as you like. Having said that, I suspect Cristiano is a very boring person.

Who needs cinemas when you can go to a live action event such as a beheading?

I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves his family in the UK. He'll probably be allowed to go on little trips whenever he wants on his private jet.

Why should they stay in the UK and not in Portugal or Spain? But otherwise I agree

Should have very obviously stayed with us for the season, accepting a rotation role. Probably scores a respectable 15 goals or so, gets up to top 10 in the all time goal scorers list, and helps bed in the new manager and the new generation of players.
Then no-one minds a late career money dive for a couple of years.

To act up both in the summer and now, and then go there mid season is a bit baffling.

This is too sensible for it to ever happen.

Agreed, absolutely baffled by his decision to cause a fuss. He should have just got on with it for 6 months, scored a few, people wouldn't hate him as much and then he could still go to get his paycheck. I think maybe either there is more to it, or he thought he could go to a club in the cl.

Can't see Ronaldo turning up to a cinema with a packet of Haribo and a bottle of coke anyway tbh

In the sense of his career. From the point he wants to play in the CL to going to Saudi Arabia.
i know mate, i was just being facetious.
it's just the reality of the situation for him - he can't cut it at the highest level any more.
although it wouldn't surprise me if portugal won the world cup, the jammy gits.

His massive ego will be hurting so much…the money is not going to no mask the fact he isn’t wanted by anyone in the CL.

Too bad Ronnie, it’s karma for being a massive bellend.

I had a friend that worked in Saudi, he said he once went to a supermarket where he lived and there was a big crowd nearby and there was a public execution happening, I think there were some fairly young kids watching too

He publicly outs his son for drinking coke saying he will never be a top player, he was 11 years old at the time.

Probably won't be having haribo or coke no

Think it's pretty telling his people have not denied it.
Marca is pretty much top tier when it comes to Cristiano and Spanish news, given his Real Madrid ties it's happening IMO

No top club will take him, and its silly money. Half of what Saudi paid for Newcastle, why not take it?

Will he still be allowed to carry a mirror around and kiss that publicly? Because it would devastate him if he couldn't.

Either some nailed on moves fell through last minute, or his agent has had an absolute nightmare there.

All the talk about having to be in the champions league seems to have just disappeared. Or maybe that ceased to be a problem once Messi also decided to move to a giggles money league. If he'd stayed in Europe 3 more seasons he could well have overtaken it, but now clearly won't.
And then you're waiting for Mbappe or Haaland to catch up, which will take 15 years of incredible form really.
