Having to listen to Alexi Lalas at 6 in the morning is a crime against humanity.
Listening to that muppet anytime is a crime against humanity. Could you imagine running into him at a bar holding court to all who will listen to his all knowing about football?

That is unbelievable

That is so sad. He's still the best.

I don't understand how he's going home though, he's done a few matches in this WC for ITV, surely he can do other QF, a semi final. Is this cock matterface doing them all from here?

Yeah, he's such a clown. Stealing a living from the '94 world cup.

I know it's unpopular but I actually didn't mind Dion Dublin on the co-commentary team. I also like Ally McCoist. The reason being that both of them are at least quite enthusiastic when commentating on the game. It's fairly difficult to not say something inane when talking about football for 90 minutes but at least Dublin and McCoist make it seem like their job is a privilege rather than a chore.

Pat Fenlon is dire. He sounds like he's running out of breath every time he speaks

Alex Scott talks too much. Was she a presenter before, rather than a 'pundit'? Her little speeches sound so unnatural.

Jonathan Pearce should've stuck with Robot Wars. That's his level.

Even an exciting game like this feels like a funeral with him commentating.

Not even close to the Barry Davies commentary of this match in the 1998 World Cup. His reaction to Bergkamps goal was just as iconic as the goal itself

Taylor Twellman just ranked the Argentina/Netherlands match as one of the five greatest World Cup matches. Course, he didn't then list the other four.

Literally doesn't remember much...it was dramatic at the end in normal time and then penalty shootouts are what they are. I wasn't the only one falling asleep and finally getting a jolt when Netherlands scored the late equalizer and Argentina shithousing their way to 10 injury time minutes.

Today's earlier game was much more intense and well played by far than Argentina/Netherlands.

Why did he keep going on about all the games he’d been to in the past? Is he trying to prove his credentials? BBC have been almost unlistenable this WC.

The coverage for this World Cup has been shite. Both BBC and ITV have done a really poor job.

The coverage has been rather poor.

ITV shade it with presenters, they don't try to make it all about them like Lineker does. I normally like Gabby Logan but she handled the whole thing with Klinsmann so badly.

Pundits I would say they've been even. Some decent and some bad on both channels.

Commentators again I would say even. Second tournament in a row where I'm left scratching my head as to how Matterface is the main commentator on ITV when they've got Clive Tyldesley. I would've thought they'd sort that out after the Euros but nope. Some of his lines are definitely pre rehearsed.

Oh and those open titles on BBC's coverage are the worst I've seen from any tournament. Couldn't be more half assed if they tried.

“We needed Lineker but we got Chris Waddle”….someone should’ve slapped Matterface for that

It's abysmal. ITV usually have a good one but even there's isn't up to much this year.

Matterface is awful, Ally McCoist is the best co commentator at the tournament by miles and miles.

I did think the commentary last night was especially bad. Not sure why it stuck out, but yeah, it wasn't great.

He's still the best commentator around. No idea what ITV were thinking when they replaced him with Matterface and how the hell have they not fixed that mistake yet.
Agree Matterface is hopeless and has been for a long time, he talks bollocks.

Carney and Aluko are absolutely shite. Complete contrast to Scott and Georges for the BBC who are excellent.

Dixon and Matterface must be the worst combo.
I can only think its like the school dance, no one else will dance( work) with them so they end up with each other. They are truly awful

Aluko's the worst pundit because she's so arrogant and sure of what she is saying despite being hilariously wrong (as her twitter outburst today shows) and McCoist is the worst commentator. I know I ranted about him already at the beginning of this thread but last night was unbearable. It was like he was glitching and just spouting all of these repeatedly throughout the game.

"Certainly"
"Absolutely"
"You have to say"
"Let me tell you"
"My initial reaction was..."
"Do you know something, [commentator's name]"
"He really does/it really is"
"One thing I would say is"
"100%"
"At this moment in time"
"I was just about to say"
"I cannot tell you how good that is"
"By the way *chuckles*"
"Dearie me"
Yeah . Ally is good on the radio and decent as a studio pundit but rubbish as a commentator. Too much going on in his head at once.
