I thought he would be in much better form. He had a proper break to heal up, lots of training sessions with the staff, time to work on fitness etc. Yet the old problems remain the same. We seriously need a new striker

Plus ETH couldn’t have been more cautious in bringing him back carefully from his last injury. Literally not once been asked to play the full 90 minutes.

He is such a "mood" player - when he feels like it, he can be great. And if not, and that's most of the time, he just does not offer enough

He looks so much more clunkier, slower, less agile than he used to. When he first came in he was explosive and had such quick movements, which helped him dribble past players effortlessly. That all looks like it's left him. Now his qualities are really just his hold up play (which isn't bad, but ranges from very good to just decent) and his link up play (again, good, but not special). He's lot his dynamism as a player over the years unfortunately.

Good hold up play can only take you so far. He needs to be upgraded asap.

Hopefully he is fine, we literally don't have anyone else could play as a number 9 as I wouldn't want Rashford there right now.

I hope Martial can bounce back from a few poorer performances lately, we sure do need him at his best (at least fit and available). I do hope we give him a rest in the coming cup ties now though, so that he's perhaps firing again against City and Arsenal.

Unpopular opninion but I say let's give Elanga a chance tomorrow against Everton. With pace and movement Elanga can perhaps be a handful for Coady and Tarkowski, and he might just be somewhat of the understudy to Martial that we need.

No idea why anyone thought he could lead the line
He hasn’t been useful for a long time now and we aren’t a midtable team that can get away with a 1 game out of 6 performer

This is just incorrect on almost every level.
Respectfully disagree. He's just not a striker for a top team (which we aspire to be). It may have been passable to use him as a striker when we were mulling about in 8th. Back then, we knew significant investment into the side would be required to get us to a top 3 spot and likely that striker spot would need an upgrade unless Martial blossomed. BUT now, not much separates us from City and Arsenal (at least in the table) and it's painfully apparent to me that he's not of the quality to push us higher.

Look, I'm all for welcoming youth into the team but at some point, to be a top club, your youth needs to mature into top talent allowing us to stop talking about his potential and instead refer to his performances.

As for his holdup play, it's so cringy that i have a hard time enjoying the game sometimes when he's playing because I see our style progressing and the remainder of the team coming together to learn Ten Hag's style, yet Martial seems like he didn't get the script in the pre-game prep.

He just doesn't have the mentality to play at this level. The talent is obvious, but he is way too lethargic and uninterested to ever become a main man at a top club.

His all round game was very good once again, as it usually is. The the problem is, and it’s quite a big one…he doesn’t even look close to scoring.

Decent not more not less. His chance came from him doing stuff in the middle and running up to get the chance he don’t get a lot of balls played to him when he’s up top central and isolated. He don’t expect the ball from Rashford when he cuts in he knows Rashford is gonna go for the shot. Anthony can’t get a ball played in to him either. Bruno was nowhere to be seen today. The ball he played to Cas in the 41st minute today is the balls he need to get but he never gets them. No excuses but it’s not as simple as we need a striker we do but it won’t have a huge effect because the way we are playing we’re not catering to the striker.

His finishing is off but we know he's capable round goal. Just doesn't have a killer instinct All round play is very good though. Can tell ten Hag is shit scared of him getting injured again

I’m starting to not see a problem now. If Rashford played down the middle and scored the same amount of goals we wouldn’t be here crying for another forward. Switch Martial wide and he is then seen as supplementing Rashford as he should be instead of being judged as a 9 himself then we wouldn’t be as harsh on our forward line.

I swear he could bang in 20 goals in 20 games if he gets going. Finishing lacks right now, which is the important thing to make right at this point.

I wasn’t impressed with that performance at all, personally.

Me neither - I thought he was a largely rubbish again, but with a few bright sparks thrown in there that make you think hang on - he might be good... but then he'd do something rubbish again.

Just doesn’t get himself involved enough.

Look at likes of Haaland & Nunez. They get chances galore because of their movement.

I think he'll come good soon if he stays fit.

It always feels like he needs a run of games to get really sharp.

Think he needs a run of scruffy goals in a few games.

Funny thing is one of his best assets used to be being ice cold in front of goal. Seems that aspect has weakened and other areas have gotten better

Hopefully saving the goals for City and Arsenal
He was pointing to his groin when he came off so hopefully he is not injured again

Guy has landed on his feet coming back from that failed loan at Sevilla, to only having a stroppy manchild as his only competition for the striker position.

We need to sell him once an for all this summer, no matter if we only bring in one striker this summer.

Getting a striker this month would be good for squad depth, addition of goals and as competition for Martial.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
His all-round play was good in the first half. Using his hold-up play and ability to lay it off to constantly get us on the front foot and was the starting point of a lot of our best attacking moves. Still doesn't look enough of a goal threat himself, but that will hopefully come.

Second half he drifted right out of the game though.
