Only way whatsoever we could spend on a striker in January is selling Maguire, however think the chances of that happening are none.
And DVB and Pellistri and Elanga. We must have been sanctioned or something by the US hence why we are unable to sell any players.

It's the same situation as always. Any player who might be worth something will also be on substantial wages relative to their role in the team.

Most of the clubs a rung or two below us won't be able to match them so we either have to make some concessions on the fee or continue to pay a proportion of their wages.

Not until the summer nope because skint
Well then I'd rather us not buy a stop gap, because you just know the parasites will try and leave it at that if whoever it is does a decent job up front. We're crying out for the real deal now.

We have more problems than some people realise with our CF shortage. We rely heavily on Rashford who is in very good form atm. However, we get very little help from the wings, midfield and even defence when it comes to scoring. Can’t remember the last time a defender came up for a corner and scored, midfield relies on out of form Bruno, Eriksen (not prolific) and Fred (haphazard). Casemiro does pop up with the odd goal but Shaw, Malaccia /Dalot Lindelof and McGuire do very little when playing in terms of goal threat. Not much coming from either Antony or Sancho, when available. So when it comes to goals we are relying almost entirely on Rashford, in great form, and Martial who thinks work rate is not for him, when fit. Worst of all this situation will not be resolved until either new owners appear or we make it to end of season.

If we don’t get at least a back up striker this month it will be fingers crossed that we don’t lose anyone, especially Rashford, to injury or loss of form until the end of season. All EtH’s work will be then be lost and we start again next season.

Can't imagine that is the case with Pellistri and Elanga. Probably is with DVB alright. Bailey, Telles, Henderson, Tzunzabe and Williams probably all in the high salary can't sell bracket as well.

Yeah but neither of those are likely to be worth anything much if we do decide to sell

Antony can play up top too, think I rather have him there and Amad at RW if it came to that.
Don't think he's ever played there + He would 110% struggle more over there than his favoured right wing position now.

Who do we think is the best option from that shortlist?
As a pure goalscorer, which is what we need, I'd have to say Moussa Dembele.

I also think he's the type of player who could also play with Martial in a two if we're chasing the game, as he's very much a last man type of striker, whereas the others are more second striker types, other than maybe Morata.

What do you think?

Does Dembele score enough though

Just hope we get this done before we potentially get knocked out of any of the cups/Martial injured.

But knowing us, we'll wait till the last second.

According to whoscored.com, he made 7 apps. all of which were from the bench and played a total of 140 minutes.
During the short 6 month loan to Atletico he arrived from Lyon injured with a fractured arm in January, had covid, and also had to be resuscitated after fainting/collapsing in training. Wouldn't judge Dembele suitability for us based on those 6 months.

This season is more alarming, but maybe it's what makes him attainable for us in January. For me Thuram and Dembele are probably the best alternatives for us now in January (criteria being availibilty, skillset/fit, and affordability).

If it's a permanent deal then definitely Thuram. All the others are either unconvincing or way too expensive for the quality.

Thuram would be cheap so even if it doesn't work we could easily recoup the fee.

What about Danny Ings? Out of favour at Villa and still a good all-round finisher. Surely not too expensive and won’t mind being a backup at United.

We desperately need someone before the City game, otherwise Elanga will be on the bench against them again.

Yes I know the likes of Thuram/Morata/
Depay/Choupo-Moting/Giroud divide opinion but they all can give us something

I've been thinking this, too. Good finisher, works hard, physical presence, and we'd get a good couple of seasons out of him. Maybe some concern about injury proneness?

I'm happy with all the CFS were linked to. Can we just sign one please.
