that guy Varela who was a random signed by Moyes during his time here, and played a few matches under van Gaal
He actually looked quite good for a short period of time (exactly the same time as when Rashford broke through). Got skinned horribly by Coutinho in the EL which led to a goal and was never seen again.

The proper decision would be to allow Elanga to go on loan to Everton and have Pellistri take his place in the squad moving forward.

He showed enough during the WC to show that he can be an asset for us in my opinion.

We've got loads of matches coming up to spread the minutes around between him and Garnacho.
No, the proper decision would be to sell Elanga, he is not good enough and no amount of loans is going to change that. Cash in while we can and we might get 15m for him. He could have a good career in the championship or maybe Holland or Germany, no shame in that for him but united material he is not.

According to ETH, he also did really well in the behind-closed-doors game against Everton.

Based on that 10 minute cameo he is obviously the next Messi

Should we play him through the middle so he can fire us to the title?

If he does end up being loaned, I hope it’s to a decent side and not some Championship cloggers/ shitty Spanish pretenders.

Currently he's probably better off on the right cause he'd just be playing second fiddle to Fernandes down the middle, he has an outside shot of securing the right wing if Antony and Sancho's form persists.

Even in the short time he was on the pitch you could see he is a different level to Elanga. He made things happen, through a mix of positioning and willingness to commit defenders. We just looked better with him on the pitch vs Elanga (yes, I know Elanga didn't play the whole match in the same position).

We have a good group of young wide players now. Between Rashford, Garnacho, Antony, Amad, Pellistri that's the wide position sorted for the foreseeable future.
You forgot Sancho but I can see why but sox wide forwards does look like overkill unless they can play upfront or in the hole which Sancho could do but he needs to be far more combative.

Nice little player. Our only RW that will go on the outside instead of cutting in all the time. He can cross as well. A proper RW player. Its still to be seen if he reaches the levels required but you can see why him and Amad were bought and they were written off far too quickly. They are both young and need more time. Probably both need good loans next year to keep them developing.

Bad timing in someways with the tough games coming up. Hopefully we can get a couple of goals vs Palace and bring him on again to see how he fares vs PL opposition. Then there's Reading too but he may be out on loan by then.

Yeah I had Sancho in mind but somehow forgot to pen the name down. Rashford can play up front, and maybe Diallo would become an option for the number 10 role. But it will be difficult to keep them all long term which saddens my greedy soul:lol:

Don't really agree. He's 21 now, another loan is pointless, he's already played 76 professional games. We need to find out what he's about now.
I personally think for the next 6 months he's better off trying to get more minutes. Maybe that's with us, but Anthony is clearly first choice and with Weghorst coming, I see his chances being limited. I see your point though, I just don't see Ten Hag being able to promise the time on the pitch he wants.

Love the look of him.

Has the natural basics that not many players have........ Great first touch / close control, plays with his head up and looks quite nippy & nimble.

It's too early too say for sure if he will be top class but he's obviously talented and I'd like to see him get more first team minutes this season ahead of Elanga.

I wonder what he is doing wrong in training not to get ahead of Elanga. I liked the look of him at the WC and the cameo v Charlton.

If you think of him as Almiron, another quality and tiny South American winger who isn't a big goalscorer (until this year) finally doing it at 28 years old, it's not crazy that Pellistri, who is visibly quality (nimble, smart, aggressive, dribbling and first touch with both feet are good) but has a genuinely non-existent scoring rate and is 21, might need 2-3 years of loans.

He just doesn't seem to want to do it, as does anyone who doesn't join Chelsea or City really, which I imagine means they pay those players more?

Ideally we'd re-sign him to a longer deal and loan him somewhere for 18 months in January, with recall options in place, commit to bringing back Amad in the summer. But those guys are #5 and 6 choice for 2 spots out wide here at the moment, so unless Sancho leaves, I think Pellistri will just get a move from some team desperate for a RW.

He might start for Southampton or Leicester. Those teams have nothing out right, and while Southampton probably wants to start Edozie out right after bringing in Orsic to play LW since he's their own player, they have to be mostly focused on staying up at this point.
Leicester is a good shout, but I think they will have longer term plans. I'm a big fan of the lad and think he should have been given more chances on loan and here, but unfortunately I think you're right with the pecking order.

I’m left scratching my head in amazement at some of the posts questioning EtH over this.

He’s well known at developing young players, has spoken about Pellistri previously and is meticulous in his methods.

I trust him far more than the baffled morons on the Caf!

The wait on the pass to Rashford was delicious. Dare I say, a bit like Messi?

I think its only fair to "wonder" why he doesn't play over Elanga who contributes so little. Going by this cameo and the world cup appearances for Uruguay. No one is calling ETH clueless. It wasn't so long Elanga was ahead of Garnacho as well.

Will be difficult to give him the game time he wants especially as Antony will probably play if fit and he’s been making noises about leaving.
Hopefully ETH can keep him sweet….

Elanga is younger and has more experience in the PL and in Europe. Can understand why EtH has wanted to give him opportunities so far.

People forget he’s still assessing the squad and has only been here a few months.

Elanga's just a more known quantity. Hopefully Pellistri put himself on the map based on his cameo and will be considered more now

His agent mouthing off about leaving probably didn’t do him any favours.
In fairness, we've completely mismanaged his development. If I were his agent I would have tried move him on ages ago.

I'd still be interested to see if his best position is on the left.

Most players play better as inverted wingers.
Give me a winger that can stretch the play every day of the week. It's not "most play better inverted", it's just the art has been lost amid all these modern cut in and shoot merchants.

Wait... That was his debut!?

I could've sworn he's played for us before
Insane but true, only ever got preseason games.

Watched the post match interview, he is a nice kid, very grounded.
Agreed. It's confusing, alright. He looks like a reserved kinda guy also. Not a troublemaker type
Everyone in the NT and back at Peñarol swears by him as the nicest most level-headed guy around. I've no idea why people assume he must have disciplinary issues.
What those two teams have in common is a senior NT colleague at them pointing at the no-brainer reinforcement.

He should move to Flamengo permanently, hasn't done de Arrascaeta any harm. Big fish small pond maybe, but Brazil is a great pond! I would also get to watch him live more often than he gets minutes for us.

I will be really pissed if we let him go. He's looked good for United and Uruguay whenever I've seen him play. I don't think it's totally beyond the realms of possibility to see him displace Antony by the end of the season if he's given a chance. The fact that Elanga was given so many minutes instead of him is a massive shame.

They might, but they need to fill 4 holes in January to ensure they don't end up battling relegation (GK, LB, CB and RW) and that's just not done really, so honestly they could do worse than loaning in Pellistri at RW, buying a left-sided defender who can play LB or LCB and bringing in a GK or I guess just praying Ward can be meh like he has been lately and not horrific like early in the year.

Interesting quote from Bruno "You deserved it a long time ago"
Really? He's been on loan in Spain for a while, surely he deserved a start if he's good enough to play in La Liga on a regular basis? Doesn't mean he's slating the club, manager or anyone that's played before him. He's probably right, he probably has deserved to play before now.

I'd like to see this lad get more opportunites. If we are talking loans, I'd be more inclined to loan out Elanga, his progress seems to have regressed and maybe a sustained run out for another team might reignite that. I think a good loan for him could progress him a la Lingard at West Ham and maybe add a bit of a value to his transfer fee.

Facundo should be used as Antony’s cover, but after watching both last night it’s not to hard to see Facundo putting Antony in the rear view mirror soon.

Antony has the booming left foot, and in the end goals are massive, but apart from that his game is fairly limited. Facundo has more in his boots, but can he physically stand up to prem defenders?

We all love United
That was right kind of pass to Rashford for the third goal. Donny would probably had played the wrong option and gave it to McTominay out wide. High hopes for Pellistri
