Who, with me, believes we can win the premier league?

at least people can shut up about winning the league now. Top 4 is still ours, until we blow it away

Yep this aged as well as many of us thought it would, we need players, we need the glaziers to just leave asap and we need huge investment to be a serious challenger.

United clearly need 2 or 3 midfield players, a world class CFW and a young sweeper keeper to be fighting De Gea for number 1. The issue is simple we lost 3 points in the last 6 minutes of the last two pl games because the squad is simply not deep or good enough. Fred, Mctominay, Lindelof, Maguire, Ellanga simply do not get into the other top 5 or 6 squads.

We also need to lay the law down with players who have soft underbellies like Martial and Sancho and others that are happy to pick up £500,000 per week but the club getting very little value on a consistent basis. I do trust in ETH but he’s still learning on the job in the PL.

He cried out for Antony who was and is never worth €100m in a million years, especially when we sent out a better player, in Dialo on loan. I want to see the board back him now and try and get a couple of players in before 31st January

I mean, the OP thought Moyes is a spanking manager and CR7 is GOAT, so how this turned out is predictable really.

Anybody who can do sums would’ve realized that it was a near mathematical impossibility that we catch Assna, maintaining our form while they drop to merely top 4 form, and that’s before the fact that we are very much a work in progress with gaping holes in the squad.

I think today's game has shown that we are still quite a way from being ready to mount a serious title threat.

We are hugely reliant on Casemiro otherwise our midfield is not at the quality required. We are also missing a real first team striker as we are so reliant on Rashford for goals at the moment.

We are also lacking squad depth. We don't really have the bench options to take off Eriksen when he tires or bring on a player who can create a goal except Garnacho.

We also have a few other issues in the team like De Gea not really able to pass from the back in the way I think Ten Hag wants to play.

But apart from all that if we can cement top 4 in ETG's first 12 months I'm very happy with the influence he's having.

Yeah we need top CM to partner Casa, backup AM and backup CDM which would definitely sort that side of things. Would love to bring in 5 over the summer (GK,CM,backup AM&CDM,ST)but even with owners seems too much to ask.

To add to this, next season please close every thread like this. We don't want to jinx our own chances.
I assure you. The reason we don't win the league is not that some random fan created a thread stating that we are going to win the league.
If life was that easy, I'd make threads that read:
"Who here believes that I won't win the lottery this year?"
"I won't be marrying a supermodel this year. Who here, is with me in this belief?"

The truth is that every manager we've had has given us hope of getting close to a league win (Moyes and RR, excepted), but they eventually failed and we fired them.
The odds of ETH being fired in 2 years, are VERY high. The odds of him winning the league next or the year after are extremely low.

Have I reverse-jinxed us?

Start a game without either of Rashford, Casemiro, Varane, DDG, and to a smaller extent Bruno, Eriksen. And you know what. Good news is at least we have decent cover on the flanks, and plentiful of half-baked strikers to fill up the teamsheet.

Hopefully you did.
But whether it's jinx or not, it's RAWK-ish behavior regardless. The OP made the thread on August. It's no more than "it's our year". Do you want to go into RedCafe at the beginning of season and seeing "It's our year" thread ever year?

Nonsense.

The OP was feeling optimistic in August, and wanted to voice his take on the matter. A few agreed.

I can't see how this equates to the Scouse meme "It's our year". By this reasoning any fan who believes his/her team can win the league and creates a thread displays Rawkish behaviour.

He was optimistic when Ronaldo was still here and Casemiro wasn't even fully 'ready' :nervous:

Fixture congestion has been by far the bigger negative impact than squad depth IMO. Between the restart and end of February we will have 19 fixtures to fulfil compared to Arsenal's 12.

I'm not sure any team has the squad depth to manage that calendar without disruption to form, especially when you are routinely up against opponents who have the luxury of rest and preparation time between games. We've done remarkably well.

The talk has rightfully stopped now. We need to focus on putting another king winning run together and then see where we are. Revisit in 8 games time when there’s 10 games to go.

Without the two late goals last week I think we would have been in it due to the fact that we have played both teams twice and they have not played each other yet. Alas, we’re too far back.

We have to just concentrate going on another run now and give ourselves some breathing space to finish top 4. We have a decent run of games in February in the PL but with us still fighting on four fronts it’s going to be a big effort for us to take maximum points. If we manage to do it we will be in a great position.

I wonder just how far away we are, as in one season, two or maybe even three (i very much doubt that last one) before we have a team that's ready. I don't think we're that far away but Eriksen (who's been fantastic btw) and the striking position are the obvious positions to upgrade. Two world class players and maybe a modern goalkeeper (debatable) and that's a really strong first choice XI.

More squad depth in midfield and up front would be useful too.

The slim chance went with not getting the Palace win and at least a draw with Arsenal. Both games seem to have been lost on moving Bruno out wide towards the end of the games. I don't think that Case foul/yellow card and muddle up between Bruno and Case happens if we don't start messing around with their positions.

City have the squad depth and Arsenal have the points and can focus on the league with a young squad with momentum. We have too many cups. If we do close the gap a bit I don't think we have enough to keep up to the end. Just hope we don't get dragged into a calamity struggle with Spurs.

Good thing is we're improving each month in ETH's short time, looking at the GD there's three teams with typical amounts then us, our GD is just starting to be respectable, if we keep going and add more scoring from Antony/Sancho Weghorst Bruno then we could look like a formidable top 2/3 team in the closing stages.

He went by the name of Wayne Rooney
This season would count as a missed opportunity for a title run. Our lack of squad depth in midfield and striker positions has killed our hopes, as I believe we have a first eleven capable of fighting for the title.

I believe City will be a bit shell shocked from law whilst also looking a bit easier to cope with haaland at ST. We can make it to 2nd soon and have a small chance Arsenal blip & lose form. Unlikely but not impossible. I think though we are in for a cup treble if we beat barca.

It's not on as we just don't have the squad depth for it. Our last great team had 3/4 able midfielders, 3/4 able strikers and just an abundance of quality in hindsight.
