He is also a massive goal threat. He has missed so many easy chances but that means he keeps getting into the positions. Once he finds his feet and improves his finishing, he will be a nightmare for defences. It's mostly his crosses that disappoint so far.

He's a wide playmaker, not a winger. He's not going to run past defenders, beat, cross or dribble in to score but he does have the creative vision & a mint of a left foot. It'll be interesting to see his contribution as our attacking style gets defined and evolves - this has not happened yet, probably due to lack of (stable) players upfront.

Saka and Martinelli had plenty of the same mud thrown at them before they came good.

He’s talented and will be a success.

Talented, has good appreciation for players around him and works hard for the team with his unselfish running and tracking back.

So refreshing to see after years of watching the likes of Pogba and Martial.

Once he settles and physically adapts to the power of english football i think he will be top class.

Best game by a mile yesterday. Made the correct decisions in the final 3rd for a change. Should have also had a goal himself. we need his creativeness a lot more. Wish he’d get some better boots though, he’s forever slipping

We’re still seeing martial… not much though because he’s rarely fit  next season will be the season we start to see an ETH team. We need a striker that works hard for the team and his clinical.

I listened to the game on radio and it seemed he was heavily involved but his shooting was woeful.
There was shock and laughter when he was awarded MOTM and they thought that Casemiro just doesn't like doing interviews after the game.
It’s obvious you don’t like the player but he was good last night and steadily improving.

He has a nice left foot, but I think he would do better to find Wout/Rashford with curled crosses rather than go for goal every time.

In fact the whole front 4 is always going for shots, I think there's little cohesion between them. But it's usually effective.

The fact that he literally ran away from both the ball and his man from the corner which his man then scored from should be enough to disqualify him from any MotM discussion. It was anti-defending.

Usually his shooting has been his only vaguely redeeming feature. Today he got his first assist with his good pass, but his shooting was crap, including him falling over rather than putting away an easy chance right at the end.

Yeah he tried to dribble a bit more, but against an average Championship side that should go without saying. That performance changed nothing, especially in light of the mediocre opposition - he's still underwhelming.
So Antony was posted up against their centre half from a set piece? If that's the case our coaches need to have look at themselves. My bet is he was supposed to be marking someone else and Lindelof or someone should have been on Mbengue.

A good game for him. And he needed such opponents, who offered limited, basically no threat.

Personally, I'm still not convinced by Antony. I mean, where is he playing now, because it's clear his role has changed? He's been told take up more central positions, which helps him, definitely.

I see a squad player, rather than a definite first XI player.

Sancho comes back an performs, who do you think will play?

Good game. Much more interplay between him and the other forward players. His shooting still needs some work though. Had a right footed shot as well which was good to see.

How was his crosses and long passes at Ajax? Becausd looking at his stats last season they looked good. Does he cross with his right foot at all or only his left?

His body feints are great and he has good vision, you can see that he has the tools to be a terrific player, he's just doesn't use them all that effectively yet. Some really bizarre decision making at times last night, not least for Reading's goal. I think that's the only time I've seen a player give his marker the slip at a corner by standing still!

Just search youtube anthony vs borussia dortmund away 1-3. You will see he even passes with his right foot

You can see with AWB now playing more like Mazraoui Antony is linking up better. Just wait for him to deliver those crosses to Weghorst like he did for Haller.

Interesting to hear your guys’ opinion on Antony, do you think he will succeed here, and will he ever be able to live up to the price tag that he will always be held up to?

His weak areas so far seem to be crossing and running past players, but at Ajax his stats in those areas look pretty good (and you suggest that as well). Does he have more in his tool box than what he has shown so far or is he limited as some of our fans and oppos believe?

I think he will need his time. I think he is afraid of failing so he is playing the safe way. Also now he has a target man like haller so you will see more passes

If he can vary up his shooting to add in the near post power shot, his curling shot is going to open up much more.

This is such an underrated trait, and you'd think after years of watching City and Liverpool forwards work harder than ours that our fanbase would appreciate it more.

He has a great foundation to work from. Still lots of room for improvement in many aspects of his game obviously, but he's still adapting, and he will get better and better.

Thought it was unfair how he was getting slated during the period in the first 30 when he was the only one launching attacks. The rest were stifled by Reading's low block. His mistakes stood out more because the first 30 was all Antony.

I love Casemiro. Such a great but understated leader. He knows Antony has been getting a lot of stick lately and so is effusive in his praise. It was a very good pass by Antony and he does work hard. People should leave him alone for a bit and give him a chance to breathe.

Typical thread. Has 3/4 bad games he is a waste of money and fear he is a flop.....has a good game and suddenly he is talented

See lots of comments the last few weeks that his passing is poor, he lacks pace and cant dribble and is one dimensional.

I think the burst of pace is an issue but his vision has been there the whole time, its just his passes havent come off...yet Fernandes is a gerat play maker on here and 90% of his passes dont come off.

I think he has done ok in his first season. The pressure is due to the price tag, he is a talented young player with a lot off progression to make, only 22 and been in Europe just over a season.....compeltely over priceed yes, but there have been several similar signings at other clubs too, seems you cant buy a promising talent for under £60m now unless they are unknown.

My only concern is his burst of pace and how me manages to develop, but there has been a very talented player in there all season who has done ok at times and poor at others, but judge him in a season not game by game

I'm relaxed at the moment because of the trust I have in ETH. Antony passes the eye test for me anyways watching him in person.

I like him. It's way too soon to draw any conclusions, though I see a silly thread has already been posted. I'm encouraged, he's totally different from our other wide players and I think fans are beginning to see that not all wide players need to play like Andrei Kanchelskis. We're a better side when he plays, look forward to having Sancho and Amid in there to compete. No more right wing duties for Rashford.

Think this shows the fans need to lay off a bit.

Clearly it's been effecting him and he's reading the negativity. Some people can't help but read it.

For Case to come put so publicly defending him and supporting him, it wouldn't surprise me if Antony is over playing trying to prove people wrong, and that is actually detrimental.

Sancho is probably suffering from a similar issue. I know people will say "snowflakes" but when you're being sent thousands of "you're shit leave my club" messages, that can't be nice.

Part of being a top player is being able to deal with it or ignore it, I'm not saying it's right but it's the reality of life in the spotlight

If you listened to the game on radio you would have come to the same conclusion.
I call it as I see it or as I hear it and if you don't like that then that is up to but when I start seeing him justify why we brought him to the club I will post accordingly.

Just try and be objective when judging him and I’ll have no complaints

I don't disagree, but usually it's opposition fans being toxic. At Man United for the last few years we've had awful problems with our own fanbase giving people abuse.

Opposition fans won't stop, but our own fans should. It's not like he's been THAT bad either. Sure he can be better, but not that bad.

That's why ETH plays him so much, his defensive side and ball rentention is excellent

I disagree about it being opposition fans mostly, take a look around other teams forums and you see the same abuse with their players, it's why I differentaite between fans and supporters
