The way they died was great.

Had a debate with the wife whether it's worth sticking around if your minds still sharp? Even if you're in a lot of pain... at least you still get to watch United (though arguably that just leads to more pain...)
Yeah I had the same discussion

Though there's no way I could end her life and carry on. It's was the reality of that ended that stuck the cord most.
Reckon if there was, lets say a kid involved, it would be different scenario completely.
But two people in an apocalypse away from 'hell' for the most part? Yeah why not go out together.

Yup. And that's the beauty of the episode. "ifs" and "buts".

They pitched a hardened conspiracy theorist weirdo with some liberal do gooder and gave us a story of love that shows humanity has got this far because we can actually give a shit about each other. And at the end, they give deeper meaning to Joel and Ellie's relationship to boot.

It actually baffles me that people can't see what they did here and think about it just a little bit past their own biases to what should and shouldn't have been. It was a touching story as to how in a world that would have gone to shit and people would have torn each other apart long before the "zombies" did, that we could still be us and survive.

We can still have nice things.

what did people think of the Ellie cutting the forehead of the infected part before putting it out of its misery?

I just assumed she was curious as to what was actually in there? She said she never learned about any of it in school.

Yeah I assumed curiosity and lack of fear from not really experiencing much of it first hand/being a kid.

Best chat in the office today.

Colleague - "I've not got a problem with it but why did they make Bill and Frank gay?"
Other colleague - "you're a stupid fecking knob."
See, if they identified as Fedra Zombies, they would have been untouched and not a problem. Thats their biggest issue.

or something.

what did people think of the Ellie cutting the forehead of the infected part before putting it out of its misery?
Curiosity that will lead to something more down the line (eg no issues of doing something more)

That episode was one of the best pieces of TV I have watched ever, I think. Nick Offerman was perfect for that part.

Curiosity and probably a bit of anger for a flashback event that's yet to come in the show.

There was a look of joy in Ellie both when Joel beat the guard to a pulp and when she was cutting that infected dude open.

I'm reading it paired with her face in episode 1 during the beatdown as showing her having a rather sadistic side to her.
But there is also an option in it being due to wondering about regenerative abilities or wonder if she can see him be in pain or if there are no noticable change.

Ellie asked Joel in the last episode about killing the infected knowing they used to be human, so her doing that with it was her seeing the infection beneath so she could see them as no longer human. At least that's how I interpreted that

That third episode was one of the most beautiful hours of television I've ever seen. Didn't see that coming going into this show. Pitch perfect.

Think with the guard it was less joy and more surprised & impressed with Joel plus relief.

Druckmann and Mazin made some interesting comments on it in one of the post ep podcasts. Won't post here cause I'm not sure on the rules regarding those podcasts. Well worth a listen.

Loving it so far. I’ve never even heard of the game so this is all new to me. Not usually into zombie stuff but this series seems different already. What a powerful third episode. Showing that even in the darkest of times happiness can be found. Really interested to see where it goes from here.

That was a great episode, it brought a tear to my eye, that doesn't happen often. I can't believe we have posters who just want to see Joel and Ellie walk around pew-pewing shit.

Just watched it again with my flatmate. Was even better on second viewing. Fair enough if you didn’t like the deviation from the game but I don’t understand how people can critique that as a poor episode of tv. Just everything about it was so brilliantly done.

Also just rewatched, realised they told the entire Bill and Frank story within 30 minutes. Felt like a movie in itself on first viewing, its brilliant filmmaking.

I noticed this time around what Jess and Frank said they would use as a code over the radio, 80's means trouble, referring back to the first episode. I also liked the detail with the battery, kept with the acid separate to the plates in the cold like that, it can be stored indefinitely. Any other battery would have been useless after a few years.

Oh man...I kind of think you should finish the game first before watching the rest of the season. That first play through is moving in the way reading a book can be, and an experience that no TV show can really replicate no matter how good.

Amazing episode. Wonderful self contained story. My wife couldn’t stop crying through the entire second half of it

Having no TLOU experience I was waiting on Frank to turn on Bill and steal the compound for at least the first 20 mins. He looked menacing to me at first!

My wife said to me "no way i'm letting anyone in my compound... it can only end badly"

I guess she was technically right

Don’t think you’re the only one. That was the best thing about this episode. Everything went against what you thought.

Don't agree with the overall opinions about the third episode. It was absolute filler and brought almost nothing to the general story and plot.
