Until Maguire is gone we will not really have left the old profligate ways behind, as personified by managerial madness of Ole et al. I think it's best to draw a line under all that, from getting rinsed by Leicester over Maguire to being forced to take on the show pony Ronaldo. ETH is building a team of fighters who bleed for the shirt. Maguire is not the profile of player ETH would look for, and ETH is not interested in CBs who play like Maguire. It's just wrong player, wrong team.

Like every player who wilts under the media glare after joining United, or wilt under the weight of that shirt, I feel bad for Maguire, and I wish him all the best at his new club.

Sell him now, bank the money, use it in the summer for our perennial strengthening needs.

Like Smalling, he'll do great in Italy.

No where near good enough for a top 6 Premiership team.
Not sure about that to be honest. Smalling was always a good defender at United. Just not a top one and not great with the ball.

Oh, don't get me wrong, he'll have a dozen of blunders and get bullied, but Serie A is a forgiving league.

What i meant was, he'll do great as in, nobody is watching so, who gives a feck.

Séria ‘A’ would probably suit him better than he could imagine. The slower pace might also help him redefine himself, possibly as defensive midfielder rather than just a centre back with more emphasis on passing ability.

Ooh, if Skriniar goes to PSG, we should loan Maguire to Inter for 4 months of Brozovic. Give them a serious option to buy (say 30M) and bring in literally any CB with a pulse for depth.

Oy.

Imagine that tanker like agility on top of that square head in a defensive midfielder position?!

He'd probably end up in CF position the way he gets drawn out of position playing as a CB.

A situation created thanks to our previous director of football, Alan Dawson, a former RAF squadron commander, who prior to joining us, had no real experience of working in football, but was nonetheless deemed suitable enough to serve on the board.

Can we start getting ruthless with players like Maguire who are clearly not good enough to help us win trophies

I could see him being cover for Casemiro, closing games at the #8 position when we're ahead and being the backup RCB. I'd turn that down if I was him and just try to go to Arsenal and count on Partey and Xhaka being older, or to Liverpool as Fabinho has played 500 games and appears to have hit the wall physically (and in their system Rice could play as a #8 anyways since they need defensive responsibility to let their fullbacks feck around and create).

But if he did come here and we sent West Ham McTominay, Maguire and 25M, he'd probably do well as Varane, Casemiro and Eriksen's backup and get a lot of games and improve overall as a player. But nobody wants to be James Milner.
Him and casemiro could play together. With Fernandes sitting on top of them casemiro would actually drift forward more as we have seen him do. Defensive stability is huge for any manager and the two of them would give a lot of freedom to our front 4 who have to kick it into gear and will do if Osimhen or Kane comes in.

I would sell now if someone is desperate to buy since January is a seller's market and Shaw can cover at CB. We will get less in the summer. Everton and West Ham should be interested.

I keep seeing this blokes videos posted. Does anyone else find it not funny in the slightest? His accents and impressions are terrible, and the jokes are fecking shite.
Thought it was H himself giving us an update. Uncanny

Utd wont let him leave without an obligation to buy clause. Think they will hold onto him till the summer. I think italian football would really suit maguire.

The only team that matters
Any day now is fine. Ten Hag will only play him at RCB and we've got Varane, Lindelöf, Casemiro and at a push McTomminay who can all play there and do a job.
This is post was about Lindelof not Maguire and neither are going anywhere before the summer IMO

No club Maguire would be willing to leave united for is going to be interested in him. The rest of the clubs won't be able to afford his wages. So we either subsidise a huge part of his wages or just keep this lump of shite around. Lose-lose for the club but serves them right for signing this waste of space for a world record fee in the first place.

It’s a ridiculous suggestion… Only people who’d never watched Serie A would suggest someone like him can play in midfield over there… I think midfield is the only position where Serie A and La Liga are still quite difficult for the average PL midfielder to transition to (despite the general level of the PL being clearly supeiror).

Who’s place is Maguire going to take?

Let’s skip Juventus and Napoli…

Inter’s 3 midfielders: Brozovic-Barella-Calhanoglu (+Miki..)
Roma’s : Cristante, Pellegrini (Bove/Matic… normally Wijnaldum)
Milan 3 : Tonali, Bennacer, Diaz (De Ketelaere)
Lazio : Cataldi, SMS, Luis Alberto…
Atalanta: Koopmeiners, Éderson, Boga…

This is getting silly - there’s talk of him coming to the city ground now! Feck off he’s slow and not Brazilian.

Swap deal with Kim Min Jae at Napoli could be an option. The advantate Jae has against Maguire is the explosiveness and top acceleration. A ability you need to have against top and explosive CF like Haaland and others CF that are really quick and explosive in the first metres.

Why oh why would Napoli entertain that? They scout a lot better than that

So...

If we beat Newcastle, does he lift the cup :(
Think that's why he's staying. There's nothing more cringe worthy than seeing him come on in the last few minutes or even injury time and the first thing he's bothered about is getting that armband. It's just embarrassing and I'm sure if we're lucky enough to get a trophy he'll elbow Bruno out of the way to lift it. Hope ETH leaves him out of the squad as we should have enough for the bench without him and then he can toddle off somewhere else in the summer.
