Don‘t we have a 200k limit in place on salaries right now? Just offer him that, if that is not enough sell him for 120 million.

Believe it or not the post actually goes downhill from here.

You don’t base decisions on form. You were wrong to do so. So instead of compounding the nonsense enjoy the show he’s putting on & thank the lord you’ve nothing to do with squad management.
Yeah Strootman's Finger has had a mare here. I think my favourite bit is

like a mature adult, as the situation changed, I changed my opinion accordingly.

By the way, what a sad, pathetic waste of time to go back through a bunch of random posts to put together a gotcha comment that really just makes you look stupid.
Yeah raging about being called out for being wrong and flaming people who called you out on it as 'stupid' just screams maturity.

He's been fantastic that doesn't mean we were wrong to want rid of him at the time.

We weren't wrong to get rid of forlan just because he turned into a great player at atletico. If Ronaldo somehow comes back from Saudi Arabia to Europe and scores 40 goals a season it doesn't mean getting rid of him this year wax wrong.

Yes we're all glad rashfords still here but based on the time, and the story that psg were offering 60-80m, selling definitely seemed likely the right choice
I think everyone agreed he has been shite during those 18 months, but we are wrong if we did really sell him for cheap (let’s say at around 40m based on his poor form), as he is only 25 and is currently one of best player in the world, and could as well worth 150m+.

Well done hero, you have pointed out a bunch of people that are regular viewers and makes decisions based on form. 12 months Rashford was coming off one really bad season and a not good season before it. He also had a horrendous attitude during last season, not trying, petulant, he had given up. He was dropped quite a bit at the end of the season, do you remember that? Plus his brother was off in Paris, looking to make a move for him. So yes, last summer I would have sold Rashford, a lot of people would and it very much seemed like the correct decision for all involved.

Have you noticed how everyone in the world is shocked at how quick EtH has transformed United? We went from our worst premiere league team ever, to challenging in 4 competitions and playing great football. Every is shocked by the progress, calling EtH a genius. Well the effect he has had on the club, he has also had on Rashford. It's genius to take a player, that looked one dimensional, that looked unmotivated and wanted to leave and turn him into a genuine Balon d'Or contender in one season.

I stand by my opinions last summer, but like a mature adult, as the situation changed, I changed my opinion accordingly.

By the way, what a sad, pathetic waste of time to go back through a bunch of random posts to put together a gotcha comment that really just makes you look stupid.
I'm not shocked at all. I was posting in the summer that we should finish top 4. I was adamant then that with some good additions we'd have the ability to be where we are now. I didn't expect us to be in the title race at this point but I knew how good the talent in the team was/is.
We didn't fluke top 4 under Ole, twice. The squad was good enough and it just needed a bit of refreshing to get back there. We've done that and hopefully can continue that in the summer.

I didn't vote in the poll but I believed in Rashford. He had the prior performances to demand faith in him.

Don’t waste your time. What we’re seeing in the last few pages of this thread are people are far more preoccupied with being ‘right’.

Anyone willing to write off Rashford in those circumstances has been proven wrong no matter how they choose to slice it but they’ll say things like ‘bad for 2 years’ which isn’t simply a bad opinion but is categorically incorrect.
There was a thread on here last year where one poster was vigorously hating Rashford for only scoring goals and getting assists and criticizing his overall game. Thought that was the point and why Haaland gets paid what he does. The end result.

 people still claiming they were right to want him sold!
I was not in the 85 % but tbh back then I did think we should sell him because I thought his body was finished due to playing too many matches through various injuries. It's very difficult, basically impossible to recover from that if you have a look at the cases of Owen, Torres or Hagreaves etc.

I'm a huge fan of Rashford but I simply wanted the best for United. And imo most of the 85 % were in that same category except a few weird ones. I always find it so weird for Rashford to have haters. Even weirder if they're United fans.

Anyway in a hindsight of course it's a wrong decision to sell him but back then imo it's still the right thinking. So best to move on and just enjoy his insane form and talent atm I think. Love the guy.

Thinking we should sell him isn't a problem, he was looking lost whole season and it looked like he isn't enjoying the game anymore, it's the "I'm always right" brigade. They should Just admit they got it wrong and move on instead of coming with some mental gymnastics to prove how they were right.

I didn't read this thread so no idea about what you'd consider 'mental gymnastics'. Hope mine is not though.

Anyway imo the ones who wanted him to be sold last summer were not really wrong at that time. If he hasn't somehow magically turned things around we'd be stuck with another 250k a week dross while imo we could sell him for at least 50m and reinvest. We all want the best for United I think. It's all if, but, hindsight now so imo we'd simply better move on and enjoy him. Lesson learned here is you never can be sure about anything in football.

Not yours, sorry for the confusion.

Talking about people who justify "i was right because" when Rashford showed he was good enough for years.

Great then :D

Even at his lowest I'd never doubt his talent. And I refused to think he has some attitude issues because from his breaking through imo one of his biggest strength is his mental strength. Lad is quite right in the head.

I was so gutted and sad to accept the thought he'd no longer have a future here back then. What a waste of talent and a big big shame for us if it was the case. He is one of us.

Tbh till today I still don't understand what's wrong with him last season. Probably only him and ETH does. But I'm super happy with him turning things around and looking happy again. Let's just move on and enjoy this guys. And give the lad some slack if one day he unfortunately goes through another bad period. Long may it last :D

Even more asap.

Get this done next week
Any [good/great] player signing a new contract before the club is sold to new owners would be absolutely undercutting themselves.

Qatari ownership, and that same player has the potential to earn far more than what was previously on the table.

Also, if Rashford is now a permanent fixture at this level, him playing out the season increases his value exponentially.

In short; there's no sound reason for him to sign or negotiate now.

Of course it is!! Wanting to get rid of him means you're saying he can't and won't ever be fantastic in the future! And then if he is, you're wrong to want to get rid of him in the past. This line of argument does my head in its like I'm taking crazy pills!

I can't help myself. It's a bizarre zombie thread without the "brains, brains" bit
Yeah same. I don’t know who I find more amusing, the 15% guys, who tirelessly swing the ‘I was right, you were stupid’ stick or the 85%’ers who actually shuffle in with their head bowed and apologise for their vote in the poll, like they actually give a shit about the opinions of the 15%’ers

I haven't read the whole thread when I've noticed it before, I'm not going to read the whole lot now, and I can't see the point of arguing the subject at any time, but especially not now

He’s got 1+1 from next season left on his contract so would have to be next year or his value goes down but you simply can’t replace him right now so you got to give him a wage that fits a 20Pl goal a season man coming into his prime years of 25-30. The 200k is not fixed, De Gea is being asked to take a reduction from £375k to £200k per week and Ronaldo is of the pay role. He will want parity or even more than the highest paid united player who are Varane, Sancho and Casemeiro all on £300-350k per week. I think he will be given a new £250-300k per week basic with a 5k per week Goal Bonus and told you score 40 goal per season you will be paid £450-500k per week and be the PL highest earner.

Unbelievable. And backing it up with ”he was in bad form” as though bad form in a season where we were so horrendous as a team, somehow makes that opinion valid.

If that was the case we’d have ended up selling 22 players

85% were dead wrong, they made an emotional choice based on a dog shit complete shitshow of a season with Ole and Ragnick making an absolute mess of everything.

You weren’t right in any way, shape or form, because if you’d had your way he’d be at PsG now absolutely ripping it up whilst we’d be struggling to buy a goal.

I'm glad I was wrong about him BUT he has had these purple patches before. ETH has him playing better than I've ever seen him but when the form drops, can he stop it from being quite as bad as it has been in the past. That's critical as we know he can go from world class to championship level in a matter of weeks.

Just imagine the club with new owners who have opinions as volatile as those on here, and act on them

And would’ve been dumb as dirt also.

The answer was clearly always to wait for a new permanent manager and see which players respond.
Clearly

Do you think all of the 85% would have actually sold him push come to shove? Or was it just an emotional spitting the toys out of the pram on an irrelevant hypothetical question? I doubt the true number of people who would have actually sold him would be anywhere near 85%.

Was it not clear the entire squad was in absolute freefall last season? And that some players would clearly pick up and find form under a new permanent manager
Yes that was clear but which players would respond and how they’d respond wasn’t.

Like I said, it was a pretend poll for a hypothetical question that got a freak result at a very emotional time, nowt to see and yet people like you are still getting satisfaction out of being on the right side, through no more than sheer chance too.

If the poll had been about every other player, it would have been the same.

“Sheer chance”?

You’re still not getting it, it had nothing to do with chance, it had to do with not being daft and emotional and waiting for a new permanent manager to see how players responded. Nothing about that was “chance”.

I didn’t vote so you’ve even got that bit wrong, I thought it was a daft poll in a clusterfeck of a season. Some players were clearly going to regain form for a better permanent gaffer.

It's just funny that he might single handedly win the league (probably not though) and still some people are claiming they were right at the time. If we can't take the p*ss out of people that dumb then what's the point of anything?

Not necessarily. I didn't vote, so I'm not talking about myself here, but even though some may have voted for Rashford to be renewed by "chance", the truth is that many in the 15% simply knew better. The gloating may be a bit irritating for the 85%ers, but some are graciously taking it on the chin and even laughing at themselves, which is the course of action I'd recommend. The truly embarrassing thing is going for the "I/it was right at the time". Other than that, it's fine, I'd even say that 85% is actually a good estimate for how many people watch football with just an extremely shallow understanding of the game, if any at all, so it's perfectly understandable that 85% of voters in this poll voted the way they did.

It was clear the team was in a downward spiral but not clear that Rashford would come out of it well or even at all.
So “clearly” the best thing was to wait then right? feck me this aint hard

The absolute dumb thing would be to sell some of your best players because the entire club is going through a clusterfeck of a season.
