If we're going to do it, can we just have something with a bit of character instead of another copy-paste toilet seat?
That’s the way most of the modern stadiums are. If you’re gonna put a new shiny roof on it. It’s going to look like a toilet seat.
You got any designs/ideas yourself?

Anything that isn't the usual copy-paste bowl would be a great start. There's some more interesting designs of newer grounds in American football, such as this one I mentioned early on in thread:
If we do end up building a new one, I'd thieve the Indianapolis Colts' stadium design. Not much says Manchester more than a massive fecking red brick warehouse.

I love the industrial look of it, and that massive window makes it seem like a sporting cathedral on the inside. Would be open to anything that's a touch outside the box and fits the character of the city a bit more than variant #183 of "shiny and round".

We really have to try and remove the nostalgia from the equation and think about what's best for the club.

As much as you spend on refurbishing Old Trafford it will never be the same as a new stadium. Imagine something like Spurs stadium but with a 100,000 seats (which we could fill), a giant red wall like Dortmund have, fans almost pitch side rather than those sloped edges of the pitch, an area that doubles as an entertainment venue for boxing, MMA, restaurants to take family to, hotels etc all on the same grounds. The revenue you could generate would be incredible and allow us to spend more while being within FFP.

I understand people associate happy parts of their life with Old Trafford, like I do but if you stand still you get left behind.
I agree. I like the idea of keeping the old stadium but realistically it's better to just do a completely new stadium.

Is 100,000 capacity realistic? I was thinking more like 80 to 90,000.

I about something similar to Colts stadium.
I guess the architects will brainstorm different ideas evocative of Manchester and Man UTD and come up with different concepts.

Stuff like red brick houses and warehouses, cotton mills, canals, music, etc

I am for a brand new stadium next to the old one but if it's anything short of 100k, you might as well renovate.

Really? Is 100k really necessary? Most big teams are around 60k
As much as our beleaguered fans deserve a nice new stadium, it is predominantly an investment decision for the club.

If you're spending north of 1bn, probably closer to 2bn by the sounds of it, you'd want your capacity to go up significantly, not just compared to the current 75k but also the upgradable options of 90k (is what I've seen).

Being able to generate more revenue from match days is not a deal breaker but it'll also help our FFP calculations.

Sounds strange, but there’s a pretty big difference in the feel of a stadium that’s 80k and 100k. The LA Coliseum and the Rose Bowl used to have a capacity of 100,000 but both have been reduced to about 80k and 90k, resulting in a vast improvement in the overall awesomeness (not a word, I know) of these stadiums today. There’s a point at those last 10k or so fans are just too far away.

I wouldn’t go over 90k. The real new revenue will come from a mid tier of corporate suites anyway. The potential is mind-boggling.

I know this is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but perhaps the new owners can look into sorting out the WiFi in the stadium. It feels like something that could be easily resolved, but much like everything else at Old Trafford since the Glazers took over, if it costs money then it's not going to get fixed.

Why does anyone need wi-fi?

How else would people post their selfies from the stands to intragram?
From their phone though I've never understood this need to post a zillion pictures of yourself online

If any potential owner builds a new stadium in my opinion you must be aiming at 90k+, we'd fill that most weekends. For the cost you'd want to have the largest capacity stadium in the UK just for the bragging rights.

For me personally it would be useful at half time to check the scores of the other 3pm kick offs and to respond to any WhatsApp messages on the family group chat.
In my day, showing my age here, we used a radio for the scores but surely you can do all that on a regular cell phone?

90K is probably the max, I've sat in the back row at Wembley and the far end is almost like watching ants!

Using your phone to look up the scores requires access to the internet (unless you text your friend asking them to send you the scores).

I can never get a good phone signal in OT so I'm guessing that's part of the clamour for WiFi. The constant need to be online is an addiction for a lot of people!

Was only half joking about people posting pictures. Some folks spend more time taking pics and filming than they do watching the match!

You're not wrong about the picture/filming and it's not just football, what's the point of going if you watch half of it on a tiny screen!

Does the 3/4/5G get overloaded to feck by the crowd and become unusable?
Yes. Rarely get any decent signal in there. I get just enough that the Forza app refreshes though to give me the latest scores.

Might get it 10 mins after the goal was scored but I'm not after real time updates unless it's the final day of the season and other results matter. Long time since it did :(

Probs need to stick a few more 5g masts around trafford. Same story at the cricket ground too
Or maybe they don't want to encourage all the phone stuff and make 'em watch the game and support the team :smirk:

Agreed. Although having to trust your mates not sitting with you to turn up at the agreed meeting spot after the match doesn't always work well when you can't call or text them! Drunken bastards!

"Hello, council? Yes. We'd like to increase matchday traffic, transport and parking by an additional 25,000 people. Hello?"

Oh yes, let's stop the fans from checking the half time scores so they can instead give their undivided attention to the stadium announcer who's reading out birthday messages like he's reading off a shopping list. That'll teach them to get behind their team!

Was never a problem in my day - been a while though  , mind you for many years I worked on Warwick Rd so I had somewhere I could crash if I was too pissed to get home

All needs to be factored in. It's bad enough now on matchday.
And would likely be worse for a new stadium because it'll be further away from most of the current public transprt
