I’ve still not recovered from this trauma. Anyone else ? Or is it just me?

Me neither. I watched and enjoyed Thursday night but it just wasn't the same. The confidence and belief has taken such a battering it's going to be a while before normal service is resumed.

I just logged in for the first time since Sunday. Basically stopped watching the game after 4th goal. Such a horrible final result. I think even if we finish in top 4 and win 2 more trophies, this result is still going to put shadow over this season to an extent and I won't feel like we can achieve big things after losing in this manner.

On the game - first half was not bad, we even had better chances but looked poor in final third with some weird decision making from players. Their first goal was huge. Can't even comment much on second half. Amazing how players just lost their heads. That was last season United combined with United from early this season vs Brentford and City. No composure, no resilience... 8 shots on target, 7 goals is another horrible stat.

I think I'll never get over this result but said the same about two 6-1s, 5-0 etc and don't care much these days. Guess it'll be okay with time but will never fully go away. Painful.

Watching the game on Thursday night was like trying to forgive you wife for cheating.

We have had taken beatings over the years, but this one is the biggest we have had in our history by the club I hate so so much. I think I will be scared for life.

This match will go down as a milestone on the road of Ten Hag taking us back to the top, and it will be cited in the future as a key moment which showed us how far we still had to go and how to get there.

Liverpool currently following up their 18 star performance by being a goal down to Bournemouth.

This result is going to end up looking bad for both sets of players.

Can't believe if we had played Bournemouth last week they would have won 8.0

I'm over it. It's only a problem now if we do something similar again in another game.

If next time things go gainst us we lose 2 or 3-0 and don't go into self pity mode, then it will just be another thing that had to happen in order to be dealt with.

Also I'm not sure what it says about Liverpool at this point. If they can't even muster a draw against relegation fodder a week after beating the 3rd placed team in the league 7-0, then you have to wonder where exactly the mentality of their players is at. The result is now effectively completely pointless from all but a bragging point of view.

A perfect storm occasion for Liverpool and 1000 year flood event for us. More good than bad will come from the result, but whatever one believes it’s best to buckle up and watch us destroy our upcoming opponents. 2 cups for sure, although the PL trophy is definitely out of reach now.

I always maintain the opinion that they are lucky it got to 7-0. They deserved 3-0 the most. But we, we totally deserved 0-7. They weren’t that good and we can see why now.

They were simply lucky and our players shat their pants for whatever reason. The stars aligned for them in the 2nd half. They scored 6 in one half... thats like an average of what? 6-7 mins per goal? thats crazier than our own freak results like that 7-1 win against Roma and 8-2 win against Arsenal.

On xG it was 3-1 for them. We lose by these results often over last 3 years unfortunately.

It was just a freakish 45 minutes of football.

These things happen once in a long while, the problem was it was against Liverpool when we were bang in form.

First time in a long while i went into a Liverpool game with high hopes and then that happened !

I can understand the reactions, shock does weird things to people :)

As long as we have a better season than Liverpool then that is all that will matter.

If they weren't that good, how did we totally deserve 0-7? I think as terrible as we were, we should have lost by 3 or 4 goals. 5 goals is already extremely lucky.

From Brazil.
As far as sports psychology goes, Liverpool losing to the team that was at the bottom of the league could not have come at a better time for us in letting our players know and believe that it was a fluke of a game.

Indeed and opportunity to go 10 points clear of them tomorrow with a win!

Result means nothing, now, which was quite predictable, to be honest. People were exaggerating about its importance. Bad result, but nothing more than that.

I don’t think it was as much about that as some people think. Yes, every single player performed terribly in that second half, and yes our attitudes were unacceptable, but in a normal game we’d have conceded only 2 or 3 in that half, even with those factors in consideration.

The amount of luck Liverpool had in most of those goals, and the fact they scored 7 from 8 chances on target shows how freak it was. After Betis and Bournemouth today that is even more apparent.

No problem being in mourning for six days after a mauling like that, but it’s time to laugh it off after all that crying.

The whole thing is strange because we have been playing well. To concede 7 even if it's just a freak result seems unbelievable.
Unfortunately such results happen and this time its our turn. It is unbelievable but accepting that these results happen is also important, at least to have some mental peace. Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany at home, in the World Cup. Were Brazil terrible? yes. But they didnt deserve 5 goals in 29 minutes. That kind of stat is just inhuman at the top level, just like conceding 6 in one half. It will only be worrying if it keeps happening. I hope not. We need to win at Anfield next season.
