Bidone d'Oro for refs?

We all know FA would do feck all about the recent scandalous performances of their refs. They'll back their refs to the death.

The refs atm hold basically no responsibility/accountability for their performances. Surely they'd be valued by the FA refs association but as showed in the recent refs buying scandal of Barca this practice could be very personal and dodgy.

So the idea is to create an independent award the Bidone d'Oro or the Golden Bin exclusively for refs. Voted by football journalists. As a way to make the refs a bit accountable for their performances.

Tbh it'd be fecking hilarious to listen to the commentator 'Here entering the pitch is Mr. Taylor, the ref today and also the current holder of the prestigious Golden Bin'

I like the idea and the name. But journalists will never give their true opinions as it might cut off their access. The FA are hellbent on protecting not only the refs but also their egos, the various limitations on VAR show that. I feel a fan poll could work though. I think the only thing that can unite every PL club's fans is the incompetence of the PL refs.

My initial thought was also a fan poll but on a second thought the big clubs, with the biggest fanbases would then have the final say I think. For your concern the solution is pretty simple imo. Anonymous voting would do the job here.

Any journalist here please make this come true. Imo voting by journalists would actually give them more power/access to the football world since now they have some influence over the refs. As any ref you surely don't want to be the Golden Bin don't you :D

They have far too much power, you shouldn't even know the name of a good referee yet over the last 15 years refs like Oliver and Clattenburg have tried to make themselves the star of the show.

With VAR at their fingertips, they should be scrutinised even more. People may get annoyed if it takes a while to review it but at least correct decisions will be made and teams don’t get fecked over for it.

I imagine there’s nothing more infuriating at any given club than getting one of those letters from the FA saying ‘Sorry we fecked up. That goal shouldn’t have been allowed’ now.

A ref bad decision can cost a club millions. Clubs should have the option to place a complaint. If proven right then the ref should suffer the consequences of it (ex ban, demotion etc)

Anyone else get filled with rage listening to Chris Foy on The Weekend Wrap? Giddily proclaiming there was no contact on Rashford, and after being shown the contact, saying it doesn’t matter because you need a “magnifying glass” to see it.

If only there was a way to replay it with zoomed cameras and a method to roll it back and forth to have a good look eh?
