Surely there must be someone else who has progressive carries and take ons that aren't massively inferior to De Jong
There are a number of players with that skillset but De Jong also offers press resistance, progressive passing and does not misplace passes carelessly. Beyond stats, he also passes the eye test. Haven't seen any nidfielder that's attainable with all these qualities

was watching el classico yesterday and the announcers were saying that Barca budgeted for a deep run in the CL, and that failed. then they budgeted for a deep run in the EL and that failed. they also said that Barca apparently still have to clear out 200 mil off their wage bill.

and, yes, they mentioned this when FDJ had the ball and brought up a transfer to United.

no way i see this happening, but curious what levers Barca will pull in the summer if that wage bill stuff is true.
Levers no longer serve to increase the salary cap.
According to information, Barcelona this year will have record income from sponsors, ticketing and merchandising.

Yesterday Barcelona earned €8.1M with ticketing yesterday. But what is certain is that they will not comply with the FFP next year.

There simply is no one as good as him out there.

Ten hag has to change his plans somewhat i suppose.

Yeah I don't think there is a better all around option, just unfortunate he has no intention of leaving his dream club. Clearly the relationship between him and Erik isn't strong enough.

Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don't care if “things are happening”
Let the reds march on
Frenkie never wanted us anyway!

I feel Iqbal and Hannibal (provided Brum's eze ugh and tumble don't rid him of all his guile before his career even starts) could end up very similar stylistically. Iqbal moreso.

Hannibal's a bit more all action, but is still a brilliant ball carrier and a progressive passer

I dont know how true all of this is.

I remember last summer, it came out that Barca had to sell to buy and x amount of their wage and what not, there was a June 30th deadline, then July and nothing happened, Barca went and spent 200m plus without really selling anyone of note.

The amount of dodgieness that goes on in La Liga, I dont expect anything to happen and business as usual really.

I would agree with that, BUT, with the head of la liga seemly on a personal vendetta against this league and PSG, he has to take action this year, as how can he expect support in his demanding Uefa do something against City and PSG if he allows Barca to still carry on like normal, as Tebas knows there is a reason why PSG stayed away from the Super League idea and then became Ceferin bitch for the want of a better word.

Yeah, they did also say last season that Barca cannot register new players but they pulled levers and then all was fine.

Tebas has issues with every league that is doing better than La Liga, he hates the PL because of the money it generates and clubs can spend alot.

In respects to Ceferin, PSG and City are really good friends with UEFA, it comes across in the youtube show that Gary Neville done. I am not sure if you watched that but it gave a real good insight in respects to the ESL.

So who else do they sell for big money? Gavi?
Its actually a funny one because the players that are actually valuable, Barca are saying they are untouchable.

Lewan, Araujo, FDJ, Balde, Gavi and Pedri.

I mean you wouldn't look at any other player anyway.

No never got around to watching that, as based what I said after viewing "super league the war for football" one. I don't know if you saw that one but in case you didn't, first ep it was Ceferin and the owner of Juve that were acting like best mates forever, then as soon as they were named, PSG owners acted like a little snake or suck up to him and was acting like he spoke for and on behalf of all the teams in Europe.

Yep, same thing, they were best mates apparently and Ceferin is supposedly Agnelli's sons god father.

Anyway we digress, It will be interesting to see what Tebas does with Barca, does he stick to his guns or will Barca pull more levers?

Probably just not sell anyone and have a season without transfers. No way they raise £178m without Frenkie and at least one other big player.

The €200M doesn't have to be just in sales. It also counts salary savings and amortization completion.

Yeah as someone said this would be financial so would include wages too.

Full transfer fee goes on the books for players sold too.

Considering the fact that every club on the planet knows they have them over a barrel, none of their players are worth all that much.

Ter Stegen £50?
Pedri £Lots

De Jong would be north of £100m but I can’t see him going for more than £70m.

Fati £40m?
Dembele £30m?

Everyone else is too old or just not very good.

But They’ll invent a way around it. Again.

De Jong is pretty unique in his skillet, and I think he would fill so many shortcomings in our midfield - press resistance, ball carrying ability, eye for a pass etc. It's just unfortunate that he doesn't want to leave, despite being poorly used by Xavi.

Oh well, here's a short comp for all the haters.

My immediate reaction to this is isn't...well who can they sell for £180 million???

Barca spent a huge amount last season and will most likely win the league this year, hence the squad is more than competitive in the league.

Transfer muppets don't need to be fed every summer! they should keep most of the squad together and let a few go that are not needed...but I can't connect this tweet in any way to a FDJ sale.

I believe his girlfriend likes Barcelona City and the weather, same as De Jong. Something you can't get in Manchester, clearly.

Watch FDJ's interview after El Classico, look at the absolute joy on his face when he talks about Barca. They will have to drag him out of their kicking and screaming. The city, his woman, etc, I am sure they are factors, but he's Dutch, and Ajax product, and those two things and Barca almost seem intrinsically linked, and on top of that, he personally was a Barca fan his whole life.

Araujo, Koundé and Baldé would be interesting players for any team.

It's not just raising money from sales. It also has savings in salaries and amortizations.

If not De Jong.

Stanislav Lobotka is the best value for money out there.

Lobotka can do everything important and necessary De Jong can do on a pitch.
