If he could play like this 8 out of every 10 games instead of 2 out of every 10 games we’d only have to bring in one midfielder instead of two in the summer.

What have you seen of Mainoo to suggest he is ready to start for us in the Premier League next season?
If you mentioned Hannibal then I could run with that but to suggest Mainoo whom has only looked good at lower levels is ridiculous.
If Scott does not fit into Erik's plans then we will find out in the summer.
He has better technical ability. That should be the starting point for Ten Hag midfielders. We'll see I suppose

Hannibal would also be a better option

Technical ability is just a part of the game in England...surely you must have realised that by now.

Yep, but Mctominay doesn't really excel at anything does he?

He hides from the ball, doesn't know how to defend, other than last ditch, and is in general very very average.

I've realised that we have some talented young midfielders who already exhibit things that Mctominay will never possess and yes I would like them to be picked ahead of him. Sue me

The commentators MOTM in a game we had to win against Brentford.
Like I said....If Erik wants him gone we will know soon enough.

Playing much better when he's going forward and not having to just sit deep. He makes good runs into the box and has a good shot.

Very good performance from Scott "stuff like that" McTominay.

He most definitely wasn't excellent. How many times did he lose the ball? And not because he was trying something, but just because he could not get easy balls under control or run into someone. Imagine if Bruno had a game like that.

Decent at breaking into the box but he is so frustrating every time he has to get the ball on the turn. Lost 4 balls in succession between 75th and 80th minute because of his oil-tanker-like spinning.

Two very good performances in a row, this one even better than the last.

Brilliant goal but I actually thought he was terrible on the ball. Got muscled off it at least 4/5 times in dangerous positions but we defended very well to bail him out (and Everton were terrible)

Pretty funny people are back to thinking he can be a backup DM because he scored a fecking goal (although I still maintain he’s a better Striker than Weghorst)

I thought apart from the goal he was kind of bad actually, especially in the 2nd half.

Had a good game but also lost the ball in basic ways way too many times.

I think he has lost a fair bit physically since he was 22/23, doesn't quite have the same agility or quickness when turning with the ball, so by the time he is balanced enough to take advantage of his strength advantage he just can't.

Good performance in many other ways, lot more involved than usual, created a few chances, some good runs and a superb finish for his goal.

Sloppy on the ball in our half top often. Very good going forward and took his goal nicely. Very clear he's not a holding midfielder.

Solid performance from Scotty. Both him and Sabitzer would look a lot better next to Casemiro than as a pair but that's for a different day.

He's not a defensive mid, never has been, never will be and it's quite unfortunate he gets played there. Thought he was outstanding in the first half.

I like what ten Hag has done in the last couple of games, where he's had Bruno as a deep-lying playmaker, with McTominay as the 8. This was similar to what he did with De Jong and Schone, and it worked well today, as it did against Brentford.

Solid game and good finish from McTominay.

Did some good stuff and scored a goal, it wasnt a bad game at all.

He just lacks the talent and ability to really be a good player for Manchester United. Somewhere in the second half there was some great passing out from the back. Quite a few passes and movement from the players, only for McT to lose the ball. To really play the kind of football ETH wants you need someone with more technical ability in that midfield role. That is why Eriksen starts and ETH wants Frenkie.

Also i think he best role is more forward, a cheap budget edition of Lampard.

Very decent performance. I can be accused of having agenda against — but in my defense I’m only calling it as I see it — though when he plays well as he did today, his performance must be acknowledged.

He needs a DLP behind him to flourish. He's not good at being the first option for a pass from the defence. He needs to play further forward.

Very good goal, otherwise a very mixed bag but at least he was a lot more involved than usual after being anonymous for first half hour.

He lost the ball too much but I find that less frustrating than his usual display of hardly touching the ball.

That wouldn't be to replace Casemiro or McTominay, though. There needs to be a balance to midfield, and even at Ajax, ten Hag had players like Alvarez and Schone, who weren't the greatest technicians, but they did the dirty work well.

And so does Casemiro, hence why ten Hag alsways uses Eriksen next to him. As was the case at Madrid, with Kroos.

All McTerminator needs is just a partner who can pass well and can defend a bit also. He had some high and low points but had a good overall game.

It’s not the caf without there being vastly contrasting opinions on the same player.
I think it is very natural with MCT as there are some major weaknesses in his game which can make it hard to see the good stuff he can do. The last 2 games are the perfect example of that, quite effective and valuable performances but it is hard not to wish he just had a bit more in many areas, then he would be a truly valuable squad player.

Decent enough performance and a well-taken goal when everyone else had decided to not finish their chances. He does a bunch of good things, but then he gives the ball away a handful of times for no reason other than he wants to hold someone off before passing instead of just passing it quickly.

We all love United
Thought he was going to get sent off after he kicked out at their player :nervous:

He’s a good player. Keep him as backup to Casemiro

That's one of the few good things about playing him, he gets more leeway from the refs than other midfielders we have.

I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch. Physically very good in the tackle and using his body to shield the ball. Made some really good runs forward. Probably our best collective midfield performance for a while.
