He could have been subbed off 10 minutes after coming on and he couldn't have had any complaints. Shocking.

I've seen better performances from subs being subbed off than the monstrosity from Fred tonight. Watch him play the FA Cup final now because he has boundless energy though.

Probably worst performance I’ve seen of him. Awful passing, awful discipline, didn’t seem to give two shits.

Sort of performance that makes you forget the good ones he’s put in in the past.

Not sure if he realises his time is up here after falling out of favour there. Think he’ll be shipped in the summer.

Headless chicken stuff. Borderline shocking. But you can guarantee the next time we'll see Fred he'll be a proper Brazilian footballer again.

Out of all the matches, you think this one is hyperbole.

Someone give him a touch compilation.
What I mean is the constant re-writing of previous efforts.. It's as though some couldn't wait for him to be poor so they could tear into him..

I admitted he was poor today, very poor infact.

Bad cameo. Really seems to have lost Ten Hag’s faith too.

Yeah, certainly seems that way. Which is interesting with view to summer. We've seen McTominay linked with Newcastle and along with those rumours it's added that he's not averse to moving there. And he's not really been played much either, prior to picking up whatever knock he's picked up. But Fred was playing much more earlier on in the season and has been Maguired it seems.

I think it's clear that our first choice midfield isn't mobile enough and the options from the bench have an appalling technical level / passing. It would be quite healthy to get two midfielders in, one starter and one squad option who are both technically capable. I do hope we sell Donny too though, I'd rather see us utilise either Mejbri (if he's not going on loan again) or Mainoo next season instead.

Maybe ETH is confident of getting a new centre midfielder. To the De Jong thread!

What's Kevin Strootman doing these days?

That was horrific, he didn't look to know what to do in any situation and he took a corner for some reason.

Coming up to 5 years since we signed him, still hasn't improved at anything and still costs us games with his erratic passing, time to get rid this season.

When’s McTominay back? Yeah, that’s how bad he was tonight.

Fred is a waste of space, not been anywhere near the standards we should set for our midfielders.

Look at the posts in this thread over the past few weeks, lots of praise for Fred. Ten Hag found his best position- not playing. He’s just not good enough. Was also one of the players laughing around at the Liverpool fiasco.

My recollection is that he’s always terrible when he comes on as a sub? Felt like he gave the ball away with every touch. A horrible cameo.

Absolute car crash of a performance. Highlight was fighting Casemiro for the ball so he could give it straight to a Spurs player.
That infuriated me, I was swearing at the TV.

Genuine 0/10 performance tonight. Did nothing remotely resembling of a Premier League midfielder.

He really wasn't.

Up until Eriksen was injured he really played feck all. Started a few but was subbed on most games. It looks like he started more games in the period Eriksen was injured than he did from August to January.

He's already only played about half the PL minutes he played all of last season. He started 24 PL games last season, this season he's started 10, playing 6 full 90s.

That should tell you all you need to know about how much ETH rates him.

I've never understood what people see in him. A CM that can't pass and has a rubbish first touch.
That makes two of us. He looks like a likeable guy, but... that's basically it.

Also, "we need some energy in the midfield" is becoming one of the annoying phrases on here. What we lack is control. Not just in the centre of the park, in all thirds of the pitch.

Anyway, he has some uses in this side. For example, against Brighton, without the lion's share of possession and with lines deeper than usual, he has a role to play. But his usefulness derives mostly from what's ahead and behind him. There's a reason why McFred were are go to midfield partnership at some point. If you can't keep the ball in the final third, if you don't win second balls high up the pitch and your defence doesn't feel comfortable pushing up, you'll need legs in the midfield. Where people are wrong though is that Fred's just another symptom caused by our team issues and not the solution to them.

Opposition fans have been laughing at him since day 1. Basically the same way Utd fans used to laugh at Liverpool for having players like Djimi.

No idea how anyone could look at him at think he was ever good enough.

To those still sticking to the ‘squad player’ tag for him. . .

It’s 70 minutes into the FA Cup Final against City & we’re 2-1 up, playing well. Eriksen looks gassed & goes down injured, Fred comes on - can you rely on this player in your squad to not be the catalyst for combustion? I’m not expecting him to be as good as Eriksen, I mean can we rely on Fred to not infact be the oppositions 12th man as he was last night & has been countless times beforehand?

Fred embodies exactly what is wrong with our club, we can make all the marquee signings we want, if we’re having to resort to Fred in any meaningful situations he will let us down 50% of the time.

Needs to be sold. He has his uses, but if we want a top team we need better players, even as squad options.

Laughably bad last night. Seems like a nice lad who runs around a lot and offers not much else. But relying on players of that calibre epitomise what has been wrong with us for years. The bloke is making a (stealing a) living out of being bang average at best. We can only hope that sort of performance last night has dug his own grave. How he's managed to last 5 years here is a mystery.

ironically

Man City the kind of team he is good against

he’s not good enough for us though like many more of them

He’s had stinkers against them too though. The rearguard action performance well has truly run dry. We’ve got to stop romanticising a few decent performances where we played kick rush.

My bad then, felt like he's been gradually getting less and less game time. Maybe it just appears so as we've lacked options and he's still not been trusted.
