I want to see a dominating team who are drilled to perfection in build up play and high pressing. And create chances like our peers. Even Brighton and Newcastle build up play better than us with inferior players.

If we are still playing on the counter with Bruno and Rashford hero ball this time next year then ETH will have failed.
We need a top class ball carrier in midfield, a top class striker and a sweeper keeper who's good with his feet and then we'll look like a transformed team I think.

This is the first mid week off we’ve had since September. It’s understandable that standards have slipped as the season went on imo. We simply don’t have time to train all that much and it’s not as if the squad has had years of Ten Hag ball to fall back on as muscle memory

I wonder how many more years it will take before our corners increase our xG instead of the oppositions

I have said it for about 2 months that we are playing crap football, I got met with alot of fans saying.. we are tired. We are now in danger of losing top 4 to Liverpool, who have had their worst season in a while and our best season in 10...

Ten Hag has improved us but as some who think he is working miracles need to give their head a wobble.

We are playing no better than we did last season. The opposition have better chances than we do in most games.

I understand posters saying the squad is gassed but EtH has shown that its his style is to overplay his starters. If anything it's likely he does the same thing next season and runs our starters into the ground by the last third of the season.

I read many of the Ajax posters comments on his strengths and weaknesses and lack of rotation was one of them. The strong lineups he went with in certain cup games were silly but that seems to be what he likes. Last season Ajax seemed to run out of steam towards the end also. They still won the league but didn't look as great to end the season.

With or without a change ownership, my hunch is we'd still spend the same amount in each window to meet FFP regulations. We aren't good at selling our players and I don't think that will change with new owners. Also our scouting department might just be the worst in the EPL.
I think the biggest change with owners more willing to invest in the club might be a willingness to absorb a loss faster and move on to attempting to replace a player rather than trying to force some way for it to work.

I mean I think he bears responsibility for shelling out 80m on a RW that he knew wasn't prolific in front of goal. But a manager isn't going to magically turn players into quality finishers. He (along with McCarthy and the rest of the staff) has already worked wonders with Rashford to turn him into a much more versatile goal threat.

And how do we know they don't put an emphasis on finishing in training? For all we know he has them doing drills daily and they still feck it up in the match. The problem isn't that we don't have any patterns of play, it's that we don't have players with high footballing IQ to execute the right decisions in the final third consistently. The one's we do have (Sancho, Martial) are complete passives that tend to just ghost through the game. Go watch a team like Real Madrid play and how many times they make the right decision in and around the box compared to our team. It's night and day. City does the same thing, it's why they can dominate football without a striker the same way they do with Haaland. They constantly make the right decision to pass up a "good" chance for a great one.
I mean, you’re kind of agreeing with me… yeah, they aren’t making the right passes, they aren’t making the right runs. Is that footballing IQ? Sancho’s time with Dortmund he looked to consistently make the “right pass”. He had 20 goals and 20 assists one season if memory serves. The season where we has Marcus -Martial—Mason up front, we were deadly in front of goal. Was that just luck? Or did Ole bring the best out of them? Bruno was an excellent finisher his first 2 seasons with us. These players have ability to score a lot of goals at the highest level, we’ve seen it before.

It’s common to look at a problem and try to assign a single factor or solution because humans like simplicity. In fact, our inability to finish and score is the result of several factors: personnel/squad, coaching, training, confidence, even opponent. Despite spending 170m on wingers, the best winger available in Europe was the one we missed and he was damn cheap too: “Kvaradonna” on Napoli.

In short, I do think Ten Hag has some responsibility for our lack of finishing and lack of goals. I believe he himself would agree.

Who said Brighton and Newcastle have inferior players? Less expensive? Yes. Less famous? Yes. I can tell you that in an attacking sense, St Maximan and Mitoma are hands down better footballers right now than Antony and Sancho. As a club, we need to stop looking at so called “pedigree” and reputation when filling out our squad and look at each player individually and what they bring to the pitch that is unique and useful.

Makes you wonder if EtH and/or the Boards/owners have the resolute to make this kinda overhaul. Getting rid of a bunch of overpaid, uncommited and mediocre players, and getting in skillful, hungry and warriors.

This season can be either disaster or solid depend on whenever United makes it to top 4 and Glazer sell or not.
We can't afford to miss out top 4, especially when direct rival already hammered us 0-7. This will go down to history Hope players and manager see this.

id at least be fine if we had new owners come in and we saw a complete squad overhaul vs sqeaking top 4 and glazers stay.

I mean Rashford has completely gone up a level in front of goal this year. Martial has been crocked the entire season, and since returning from injury looks a step slower, and we don't have Greenwood anymore. So that's one player that significantly improved, one that's basically a wash because of injuries wrecking his career, and one that isn't even in the squad. So are you going to blame Ten Hag for Bruno being terrible in front of goal (he was last year as well) while praising him for Rashford? That doesn't make sense.

As far as Sancho and footballing IQ, Sancho still does look to make the "right pass". But it's the same issue that Martial has had with our personell at times when he plays: too many aren't on the same wave length and we have a number of players that simply aren't clever or looking for the smartest play in the final third. Even Bruno, for as great of a creator as he is, doesn't take the simple options often. Sterling transformed into a high scoring winger under Pep not because he all of the sudden became Ronaldo in front of goal, but because that side puts supreme emphasis on passing up decent opportunities to shoot for even better ones. It's why they score endless tap ins, while watching us we almost never score any tap ins. You'd be shocked seeing a United player through on goal and squaring it across for a tap in, almost all of them are just shooting.

I just think blaming managers for finishing issues is a bit stupid. Blame them for selecting or buying players with those issues sure. Blame them for being unable to set up a team with patterns that get those players into dangerous positions to create/score by all means. But cursing Ten Hag because Bruno skies a shot from 10 yards out doesn't make any sense, unless he's specifically made a point to not allow the players to practice finishing in training (which is ridiculous as every club practices finishing).

Surely he wanted the DDG renewal? The comments the other day confirming it.
He's played DDG in almost every game in every competition, and publicly commented that he's happy with DDG and wants him to extend.

For some reason, to a lot of Caf posters, that secretly means ETH doesn't rate DDG and wants him to leave.

I just don’t get how this is the same coach who bought an average shot stopping 39 year old GK in Pasveer because of his elite ball playing after Onana failed fell out with the club.

From Pasveer to De Gea… it makes no sense.

He probably feels he has bigger issues to address up-front with our toothless Rashford dependent attack.

Well he was given De gea and Henderson for all his hype is not that good. Let us wait till next season before determining what type of keeper he actually wants.

Convinced we won't be seeing that until we have signed a GK better with feet,CB,attacking RB,backup CDM,progressive CM and two strikers. I am happy to be proved completely wrong.

His approval of De Gea's contract has placed a gigantic question mark in my eyes. Any man and his dog can see he's a massive drawback and we had a chance to let him go for free especially after his recent howlers but he still chose to keep him anyway. I'll be observing very closely how this decision turns out next season because it'll cost Ten Hag his job if he's not ruthless enough with him

Why do people mention this everywhere ? To me it's so obvious.
De Gea will be gone at the end of the season. But from now til then, he's our only viable GK. Erik can't afford to damage David's already fragile mentality.

There's too many reliable reports from reliable journalists that he's signing a new contract with just minor details left the latest being from The Telegraph. I simply don't think Ten Hag is plain ass lying when he directly mentioned that the club want De Gea's contract extended. Seems like an absolute stretch to keep a player onside

Is it really realistic for him to be asking for a new top keeper though (let alone by slagging De Gea off at the same time)? we're in dire need of a top striker who will cost a feckton, a good enough midfielder to be a backup to Casemiro/Eriksen, a backup to Varane and maybe a better player to replace Fred/McTominay .

It seems to me like he would rather De Gea staying so he can have more money to work with in the transfer window. Because as expensive as De Gea's wages are, that's not his problem. But if we sign a new keeper it will be his problem since it'll affect his transfer window that he has to settle with cheaper players in other positions. And from his recent interview he seemed annoyed by Glazer's indecisiveness when it comes into selling the club, which tells us he really need and expects resources to work with as new owners usually come in with fresh money. Can't blame him when his rivals got into positions where they are in now by spending money.

Even if DDG was a #2, imagine the knock-on effects on the wage structure.

The new first-choice goalie has to be making more than DDG next season (reportedly at $200k/week). Then if DDG was making that much, surely a midfielder and especially a striker has to be making XXX% more than DDG.

I love the man but I agree with this.
Unless he's been specifically told we either have money for a striker OR a goalkeeper, this decision really is baffling and will ultimately cost ETH his job if DDG is Number 1 for next season.

It doesn’t really because we have no idea what options he has been given by the club. If they have said there is no budget for a keeper for instance then what is he supposed to do?

I can see the weak logic but surely he could've tried out some backups to shake up the position a bit. Especially if he's not personally convinced of DDG.
There seems to be a lot of hoping that he'll change things like possession football and new gk next season with no evidence.

Recall Henderson, Work with what we've got until January. Free up 375k p/w for other areas.
Moving in a radically new direction is risky but ultimately necessary. Extending DDG isn't moving forward is it.

Worrying if he's planning on DDG as our first choice next season. I get that we may have limited funds, but if so I think a clean break and a budget option until next summer would be the better choice. Really tired of seeing mediocrity rewarded at this club.

Not really it's more a case of knowing DDG will never be right so release him and if there's no money Work with what we've got until January or loan a gk. It's a question of whether he thinks DDG is right or not

It's not. Caf posters love to turn to "3D chess" theory every time the club makes a bafflingly illogical decision.

I hope theyre right that we will be better in possession and a dominant gk will be in place. Its just I don't see any evidence of it, more to the contrary. At least generally we want the same things moving forward.

I think he has done a lot of good things this season but the last few weeks are telling. The hard fact is that if he fails to get top 4 from here, and I think he will, then he should be sacked. We need to stop rewarding failure, especially from the strong position we were in. To be honest its likely not his fault, we have seen the same shit over and over with these players but ultimately we can't change the 15 players we need to compared to 1 manager so we need to hope maybe someone like Poch can get a full time tune out of them. That's the worst thing for me. ETH actually had them playing well for a long time but they reverted. So the players are capable of it but they simply can't sustain it. Either way unfortunately he has to be the fall guy when we fail to get top 4. I hope he goes on to achieve good things because I have been mostly a huge fan of his until the debacle of the last few weeks and the inevitable failure coming up in the next games.

For anyone wondering how the next 15 months go - City win the treble and then Liverpool do the same after us being the reason they get CL in the first place. It's the inevitable life of being a United fan nowadays.

Anyway hopefully we can get it right at some point soon.
