Is he the new Mctomminay? Runs about a lot? People that defend him only ever mention his work rate. Half of his work rate is him chasing after balls he's lost in possession. He offers nothing besides running about.

Out fought & out thought by better players today. Caicedo took the ball off him today like an adult man playing with 6 year olds. And Fred just stood there laughing as Brighton ran towards our goal.

I thought he did decent first half getting around and setting us up for some counter attacks.

We obviously need more though if we want to be a serious team

That sliced hoof into the stands sums him up really. Brighton pinging about first time passes through defence and midfield. we try the same and it gets to fred who does his best peter kaye impersonation. Hopefully only 6 max games of this guy.

Really tired of comments like this, it's like you guys don't even watch football or just make your stupid posts out of your own bias. He was by far our best player, really good at breaking the play and some one touch passing. I am sure, some of the criticism comes off the one misskick in midfield near the end of the first half, which was a difficult half volley, which happens.

But noone even mentions Casemiro having a horrific time on the ball today again, losing the ball like prime Pogba in dangerous situations, let alone being lucky to finish the game without third red card in the season. Fred was definitely one of our best players and kept the ball rolling very quickly with one time passes too, kept Anthony in the game as a bonus as well.

It's just so annoying people here really don't understand football, that breaking up play and one touch football is a skill too. Noone is on Bruno's back too for having like 50% passing accuracy being invisible in the last 30 minutes... Sabitzer and his speciality invisible man too... Yeah the game fell apart in the last 20 minutes after we subbed Fred off, yet some jerks will blame Fred again. Big sigh this forum.
What the hell you talking about? Case is getting slammed for his post suspension form. This is the Fred thread of course people will focus on Fred here

Only saw the game from 30 mins and thought he did alright? Wasn't the best performance and there was a few iffy moments but I felt he was pressing with intensity and played some good passes.

Should have had an assist for Martial.

Casemiro is getting plenty of stick.

Stats might not be complete.

Fred had 75% pass accuracy from 23 passes attempted, 1 that should have been finished by Martial. So that's 1 in every 4 balls he gave away, having so few passes and giving so many away looks worse to the naked eye when watching the game. 17 accurate passes out of 23. Bruno played twice as many passes and had a higher completion rate tonight. Casemiro had twice as many accurate passes as Fred out of his 50 passes.

He also had 2 tackles, 1 interception and gave away 2 fouls. So this idea that he was some sort of defensive dynamo in midfield also doesn't make much sense.

I dont think he'd get to start games even as a backup at Brighton. All their midfielders were better and Gross wasnt even playing.

Ran around, did some good pressing effort, made a small amount of passes with a low accuracy and left far too much defending for Casemiro to do.

Agree. Started decent, but just as the team performance declined, his also declined.

People seem to take p the end part to draw conclusion about his overall performance. If Antony had finished his better chances in early game, Fred early contribution in the game would put us in a nice position.

To be fair he generally gives 100% commitment and effort. It wasn’t his worst game tonight, some of the high pressing was very good and passing better than his average (although that’s a low bar).

But a lot of the running was ineffective, Brighton easily knocked the ball around him, he was like the small kid trying to get his lunch back from bigger kids. He was also knocked off the ball very easily a couple of times. Both of these made it easier for Brighton to find space and they all just looked so much more composed than him.

All in all by his standards it was an ok game but it’s just not good enough for a top half premier league team. I think at this stage overall he is a liability, it’s impossible to settle into a consistent and effective playing style with him injecting randomness every couple of games. He’s like the one guy rowing faster than everyone else in a boat. Looks great to some but is damaging the overall team effectiveness. 100% past time to get him out of here.

I've recently had a bit of a soft spot for Fred but for feck's sake, it's time to get rid. A contending team simply cannot have a player with a bottom level so low consistently getting minutes.

I love his work rate and can imagine he's great to have in the dressing room, but he's way too inconsistent to be a midfielder for us. Get rid in the summer while he still holds value.

It's like reading the Fellaini posts a few years ago, "he puts in a shift" etc. There comes a point when trying isn't enough, I'm sure Keano would say that's the min requirement and shouldn't be used as a quality. He's not good enough now, he's never been good enough. If we are a team that ultimately wants to move to a more possession based team, he's not your man. Seems like a nice chap, but he needs to be moved on. I get that we are low on numbers in mid, and his energy was probably needed v Brighton's possession game, but we have to have better options than him and McT for games like this.

Fred looked like crap yesterday... time to go. He's had good matches but we can't have the times we need him and he has a shocker

We got super Fred today and honestly, he turned the tide of the game back in our favour as we were seriously lacking energy

You can generally tell if Good Fred or Bad Fred will turn up by seeing if the first thing he does comes off well.

The first thing he did today went well... Thus Good Fred appeared
I didn't see the game but maybe this is true . I always say the gods flip a coin with Fred.

I'm in the minority here but I'm hoping he can get some good form again before the cup final because-if the good Fred appears- he's our best presser and could be very useful against City.

The lesser spotted Good Fred

Looked like the lovechild of Kante and Iniesta today. Will probably look like Lee Cattermole after 12 pints next time we see him.

Did in 15 minutes more than what Eriksen did in 10 games after his comeback after injury, really frustrating baldie to believe a player to have stamina and dynamism of Mata in retirement..

Regardless that one stupidly awful cameo three games back where he looked like he gave up on ETH who was freezing him out for so long, he deserves to start next to Casemiro, and in every big game, period.

This was the frantic Fred that actually works for rather than against his own team. Great harrying, ball winning, set dangerous attacks away.

I think he's a better a fit for us than Eriksen, He's tenacity and aggression are so important and he has had far more good performances than bad this season, also His passing is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I really hope he starts against Bournemouth.

One of those brilliant cameos Fred tends to have. Really important for us towards the end.

When he got the ball in the middle I shouted “set the tone!” in hope. His pass came off and he played superb

It's hilarious really. Called it right from that touch that he'd do well. Might as well sub him off if he misplaced the first pass
