He gets a pass on here. He's largely awful and not up to PL pace and likely never will be. That and the fact he gets yellows for fun and still throws daft challenges in. We over paid massively.

He was ok defensively, I guess, but caused quite a few ball losses with his sloppy involvements. When you play as a DM, it's sort of imperative that you are steady on the ball. It's great that he occasionally hit's with his long passes, but he's too sloppy with the simple passes and causes too many ball losses. This has been my criticism of him the whole season.
I’d rather he keep it even simpler but screen the back 4 better. I don’t think he provided great cover today although it doesn’t help to have Eriksen next to you.

That yellow wasn't him. He just happened to that guy who received it. Barely touched the guy.

Thought he was pretty decent today. Much better compared to previous games. Set the tempo, was in good defensive positions and played some decent first time balls here and there. Not everything came off but did his role and then some.

Eriksen next to him was bad, like reallllllly bad.

Decent performance. Agree with the notion that he hasn't been himself since the suspension, just like the squad overall haven't really managed to fully recover from the 7-0.

He was good today. The yellow was because once again he is having to overcompensate due to Bruno and especially Eriksen being too lightweight. It’s not sustainable and hopefully the balance will be better next season with a new first-choice midfielder in place of Eriksen.

Had a very good long shot saved today, could’ve been a nice goal

The team falls apart massively without him in there, shows how important he really is.

In what flying universe did you come to that conclusion? He's arguably been our best player along with Lissandro and (debatable imo) Rashford. He was the absolute key to our amazing run in the mid season and when he got double red carded we collapsed and started losing and drawing every second game. Obviously he is yet to regain his form after that, but to say he is awful... it's like we're watching two different players.

His was the least yellow of the three challenges before the player went down. Absolutely terrible decision by the ref, who clearly should have booked Eriksen if he was going to book anyone (even though the like of Rodri and Fabinho seem to get away with that sort of foul week in and week out without getting booked)

We're already taking him for granted. His positioning is world class.

He seems like he gets a yellow a match.
He probably has "it's the ref's fault" syndrome like all the fans on here who think he bares no responsibility for picking up a needless early bookings every single game without fail, and so he just goes out there and does the same thing every game knowing his actions are never his fault anyway.

Talking about bookings, for once in a loooong while I was thinking, 'wow Shaw has had a decent game, made some tackles AND avoided getting booked?'. And then he somehow got a yellow card in the 95th minute for pushing Traore or something

He must be on a personal record amount of yellows in a season in all comps.

I’ve noticed his passing is inconsistent when he tries to make quick first time passes when we just get the ball back. Almost as if he is trying to force the transitional play.

His passing when we have control and he takes his time to pick the pass is excellent. Hopefully if we can dominate games more next season and not be so much of a counter team he can excel

He needs a player who can carry the ball next to him. All we need him to do is win the ball back and play the simple pass, right now because no one is able to carry the ball further up the pitch through the middle he has to play much quicker and adventurous, this is not his strength. Still a great player, and with the right player next to him he has at least a couple more years.

Cas is still a valuable member of our team. However, folks claiming that he need specific types of players to disguise his weaknesses (and impending decline) seem familiar. It used to happened in Pogba's thread for years before.

There isn't a single player in football who doesn't look better with players who compliment their weaknesses.

Nah. What I meant was people should rate a player's abilities on how they do on their role. Things such as late slide tackles or passing the ball to the opponent etc should be only on him.

I said he was being overrated by some fans and got hounded for it. As much as Casemiro has improved United's midfield, I don't think Casemiro should be the midfielder you want to have the most touches on the ball. His passing can be erratic at times, and he is a hot head.
You were ridiculed for calling him overrated because the basis of your argument was the bolded point. You didn't mention anything about his passing ability. Instead, you said that he missed too many games through suspension and his absence hurt the team, which is why (according to you) Casemiro is overrated. Using that logic, Vieira is one of the most overrated players in Premier League history because no player has received more red cards than him (8 reds, 0.28 cards per game).

I have the bad feeling we might already have seen the best of him. Still our best midfielder, but we need to get 1-2 proper players for the 6/8 positions.

I think he's been excellent this season, despite a blip in form, and I believe that as our midfield becomes more balanced, his role will become more refined and he'll be even better for us next season. I think we can still get 2 top seasons out of him.

Yes absolutely. He, but also the whole squad, needs to reset and come back with a clear head for preseason. I think this will be one of the most important and useful preseasons in recent years. Just hope we can do any business we are planning in the early part of the window. Casemiro will be back to his best I’m sure.

still think just an absolutely weird season for him. He started pretty poor from what i remember, went on a clutch ass run, and now looks pretty poor again i think. Whats the blip, whats the norm going forward? If im guessing based on what ive seen think next season is prob the last we can count on him. He also looks pretty pissed at the refs here for some of his card problems. I know it was prob crap but if a team like bayern truly wanted to come after him i feel like i could see Case being interested.

He started slow, but then was great until his 4 games suspension, but for the most part he did extremely well and the team basically falls apart without his presence, but I agree the drop in his form recently is on him and it is a concern, but I am confident he can easily go on for 3 or 4 years if not more, he uses his intelligence far more than he uses his physical prowess, which means he has the ability to perform at the top level for longer than you think.

i hope youre right. Idk though the pace of play and how slow he has been looking lately isnt great. He does get a lot of cards, some arent his fault but a lot are. I def dont see 4 more years from him but think he can def play a part next season for us.

One of his biggest flaws this season (on a bad day) has been making a mess of simple passes. It wouldn’t be a problem at all if he lost the ball with long range ambitious passes (which have actually been much better than expected this season) but it kills us when he misplaces 5-10 meter passes. Which is a real feature of all his bad performances.

The fella played this season very well against some of the toughest PL opponents and he also experienced cooker-pressure and tense games in CL Semis & finals with Madrid, there is no issue with him keeping up with the pace of the play or anything like that, and I admit at the beginning I thought he might struggle to keep up with the PL but his issues were more pf him not getting into rhythm with his teammates sooner, and his off days are usually misplacing passes or tackles that gets him sent off which is normal thing for DMs in the PL.

On his worst days, he’s still one of the best DMs because of his positioning. It’s annoying when he makes errors or has a generally bad game by his standards but even then we look more likely to keep the goals out than when he’s not playing.

It's as simple as this. I'd like to know the name of the central midfielder who never misplaces a pass.

Where legitimate criticism of Casemiro can be levied it's on the incidents that led to the two red cards. Both referee decisions were harsh, but not completely insane. We've seen other players get away with grabbing an opposing player by the neck, but if you grab an opposing player by the neck you should expect to be sent off and consider yourself luck if you're not sent off. On the other red card, it was a bit harsh, but he did go studs up over the ball into the player's shin. Marriner could have been more lenient as it was clear there was malicious intent, but he was well within his right to send off Casemiro. Clean that up and Casemiro had a fantastic season and remains one of the top three or four CDMs on the planet. Casemiro can teach us how to win, not us teach him.

Excellent, was a much lower paced game than many recently and he dominated.

After a few shaky performances he was back to his best today and we needed him to be back as so many other players were under par.
