I was making a point. Why do you think he’s going to suddenly fall off a cliff when he’s never relied on pace and is an excellent professional?

We signed Sheringham when he was 31 and got 4 years out of him. Players last longer these days.

Why do you think its about pace?
Why do you think the physical demands of the PL today are the same as the late 90s?
Do you think Aguero relied on pace and was not an excellent professional?

How about name the list of 33+ PL strikers in the past 5 years scoring 30+ goals

Why won't he? If Kane gets chances he scores goals. All types of them too.

Why would Evan Ferguson guarantee them at 22/23 as well? He wouldn't would he.
Physical decline is not soley about pace
Who said Ferguson would?

agreed. just because he’s called ferguson and he is scottish, it doesn’t automatically he’ll be any good. and let’s not forget, sir alex was only any good because we paid the fa off for referees and that. and there was no good competition in the league.
He's Irish. Careful son.

People worried about Kane's age. Lewandowski is nearly 35 and Benzema not far off 36 and they will look lethal.

He's not going to get any cheaper if left at Brighton. It could get slightly worse, although the potential for that is probably constrained by the fact he'd already be really fecking expensive as a hot, PL prospect.

Ideally you would want to see another full season of football but sometimes you have to take a chance, and if you're going to take one then a youngster with loads of potential and already played in the league is quite a good start. Every single transfer contains risk. Adapting to the PL, adapting to Man Utd and the scale of the club and what it takes, age (on both sides, too inexperienced or aging legs with little longevity), not knowing every detail about their character and adaptation. They're all some kind of risk but actually you get a few things in your favour with a really young one that's already played here.

I don't think he would be my option number one as it feels a season early, but he'd definitely be in the frame.

Impossible to say he'd definitely badly decline by 34.

At 36 you'd have more of a point.
I never said anything about definate. Take the sample set of striker in PL over the last 10 years and draw your own conclusion. 33+ strikers scoring 30+ goals in the season?

The PL is alot more physically demanding now and is also more physically demanding than any other league.

We don't need 30 goals in PL. 25 and a decent amount of assists would be fine. Kane is good at getting assists usually too. He has a great range of passing

30 is all comps and thats the lowest bar. The point I am making is that strikers who do that at 33+ in the PL in the past decade are few and far between (and not all strikers relied on pace). The stats indicate his decline will start at 32, he could be the one that breaks the trend, but thats a gamble

Think he has had a really good debut season and shows a lot of promise....but its one season, we have seen a few Brighto players move on ad not set the world alight after a big season. It is way too early I think to be spendig the kind of fees he would cost.

I know the argument could be "he has done it already in the premiership"....but why is Ferguson at probably £50m+ a good deal, yet others such oas Oban at £15m....its too soon ad to bigger gamble.

Think he is better off staying at Brighton who are already a very good club now and developing.....if he is £50m+ only the bigger sides in the league can afford him....and its likely he spends a lot of time initially on the bench.

Be very surprised if he moves this summer when he probably costs a lot more than all the other good young strikers breaking through, a lot more than most and as good as he has been, the vast majority of the others have had bigger seasons

Who is saying Oban at 15 million would be a big gamble?

That is just strange. If that is his fee it's a gamble but not a very big one.

I’d go for Gift Orban, he is scoring for fun in Belgium and this doesn’t happen very often, he is also suitably super confident, slightly nutty (as in expect the unexpected, check out that kick off shot on goal that nearly went in), good natured and good in the group. Furthermore he would love to play for either United, Liverpool or City (his own words), his current coach Vanhaezebrouck says he is the most talented striker he ever worked with (I hold his words highly as he is a football animal and former league championship winning coach). Last but not least he would not yet be disgustingly expensive. This will all change when he first moves to Dortmund or Ajax and his value skyrockets to hundred million or more.

I want Utd to make the smart move for once. Orban and Rashford as nr 9 will be enough (hopefully).

Spotted a link to City earlier today as backup for Haaland. Definitely needed more there!

Makes sense to give him another whole season at Brighton to develop further and we go for Kane this summer, slowly phase Kane out and build Ferguson up to being our first choice centre forward.
I'm going to go ahead and suggest you're crazy if you think we sign both as easy as that. We never have that smooth transition with top players and most likely there will be better options available to Ferguson if he develops at the point where Kane is dipping enough to replace. A team that doesnt have Kane will offer him weekly starts, again assuming that he develops in the way that we would want him in a couple of years as our main striker

Doesn’t excite me tbh. A monster fee for someone largely unproven.

Wouldn't be moving this summer, reckon maybe next year possibly even 2025
Given we probably need two strikers we should move on then. The club needs to find a cheap deal ala Alvarez so that it can spend big on the main 9.

Ferguson is unproven, but he does come across as a top center forward in the making (a less polished version of Benzema, in a way): strength in possession, sense for dropping deep to collect the ball and link-up play are among the best for the U-23 group (for reference, he is 90+ percentile for ball retention), sharp instincts and anticipatory movement with footwork that is up to scratch, effective in the air and on the ground, makes the game seem simple and operates like a veteran (a rare quality) as he nails the fundamentals on a routine basis, scores different types of goals (with either foot or with his head, as the result of intricate build-ups or quick counter-attacks), works hard for the collective and fits well in Brighton's pressing scheme, is receiving the right education for today's game under De Zerbi, and so forth.

If he was blessed with a greater burst to create separation in confined spaces, quickly generate overloads and run center halves ragged as a ball-carrier, I would have no problems paying £70 million, or a bit more, for him this very summer, even considering his lack of experience — as he would then be as complete a line-leading center forward prospect (in terms of ingredients, and the heights he could reach) as we have seen in recent years. Also, what if a club like Newcastle United acquires him in the near term (and he turns out to be a ever-present force for them, as well as a what-could-have-been pain in the arse for us?)

United will have some tough decisions to make in coming months: provided Levy allows him to leave Tottenham, do we make a substantial investment in Kane (who is playing at a high level right now and gives us the best chance to contend for major honors immediately, but might decline rapidly in the not-too-distant future), do we prioritize Osimhen (one of the most productive players in the European leagues this year, but will be the most expensive option of the lot (Napoli signed him from Lille for €70 million and will expect to turn a substantial profit) and might take time to adjust to the Premier League) or do we target someone like Ferguson (who is unlikely to hit the ground running, and for all we know, might never turn out to be an an elite center forward, but is better then Kane at a comparable age and could start approaching his peak in as few as 2-3 seasons, and give years upon years of distinguished service to the club (in terms of centrally oriented forwards, we haven't had this type of security since Wayne Rooney)).

Can't decide, personally speaking — keep going back and forth between the options! And a monster fee for much more proven players can be a sub-optimal and risky endeavor, too; in recent years alone, we need look no further than Hazard, Griezmann, Coutinho, even Pogba and Maguire for us, et cetera.

Did I say it’d be that easy ? What is known is Ferguson is a United fan that chose Brighton because of the easier pathway to the first team and is now having a breakout season, if he were to progress further next season and Martial is gone after next season then why wouldn’t Ferguson have enough confidence in himself to come to United knowing Kane by that time would be 31 and could rotate.

It only seems to be us over the last decade that can’t do these things smoothly but we seem to have a better scouting and recruitment structure in place now whilst also having a manager who knows how he wants us to play and wants us to sign players that fit that style, I’m sure ETH said before he’d like a couple of quality options in each position.

Yeah and tbh it's suspect that Everton aren't in for him, given his fathers links to the club. Maybe he has the same temperment as big Dunc' and just isn't suited to a bigger club

If Ten Hag really wants Kane, this is the Kane we should go for, not the old version.

The only team that matters
they get money in the bank and a free player, while ferguson gets to continue his development unhindered.
Or they could keep him and sell him for even more if he comes good, and that's a reasonable sized if, the football world is littered with highly rated 18 year players who failed to maintain their good career start, United have had plenty of those over the years and we're not the only ones

As opposed to holding onto a player that they just signed a new contract with till 2028 and sell him for an obscene amount of money if he progresses as it looks he might over the next season or two?

They're hardly struggling and in desperate need are they. People need to realise that teams considered 'lower' than United aren't just willing to accept us barging in and taking their tarlents for cheap anymore because the financial game has changed, it's either pay up or shut up now, because they don't need to sell all their players to survive.

Would be a really exciting transfer alongside a more established striker

They'll want top money for him though I dont see it happening
