Kane is a massive upgrade but what does Mount bring to this team? Also Rice is 100m, for that money you'd think Caicedo is better value. I'd rather we go for Rabiot, have Eriksen as the 10 backup and spend that Mount money on Kim. +-50m for an average player on a 1 year deal is disgusting and unnecessary.
Considering MacAllister seems to be going for £70m, it seems unlikely that Caicedo would go for less than £80m. I'd say Rice is worth the £20m extra personally.

Is he, though? How much less would he cost, 20 million? As a direct Casemiro replacement he might make more sense but the next few years, with Casemiro still starting, we need a good passer next to him, and Rice is a better pssser than Caicedo.

Fair, have watched way more Brighton than I did West Ham so I'll take you guys' word for it.

Caicedo is great too. If Rice didn't want to join us, Caicedo would be my 2nd choice. I don't think he's as good at progressing the ball as Rice though. Both are very intelligent players positionally who can win the ball back consistently and are strong. The way Rice can run with the ball is quite underrated. He uses his strength and balance really well.

For those wondering we had 9 homegrown players in the squad for the Europa League this season.

Heaton, Maguire, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay, Sancho, Butland, Garnacho and Rashford

So based on rumours and assumptions, we may have

Heaton, Shaw, Sancho, Garnacho and Rashford for next season. If we added Kane then Amad, Hannibal, Mengi, Alvaro Fernandez, Pellistri could be possible options to make up the numbers without further signings of English players although they may be young enough to not need registering anyway.

We may need to be a bit careful in the next few seasons though if we don't promote youth players or sign an English player here and there. I think bringing in someone like Mount if the fee was reasonable makes sense if it's to replace Van de Beek, Sabitzer, and Fred. We could lose those three and sign Mount and he offers the same utility. Cover for Eriksen/competition and cover for Bruno.

I don’t really believe our budget is that amount. Just a sign we have learned from past mistakes by Ed “loadsamoney” Woodward.
You don't have to believe anything. Our budget is constrained by FFP rules - that's where the 100m + sales comes from.

How a rumour (based on nothing) can be a breaking news?
Ornstein was the person who said that mount leans toward skysports in the event of a transfer from Chelsea.

But skysports obviously just sensationalised it. They really are just Talksport in suits.

Not really
Yes really.

£20M for a 24 year old, english, full international, playing for a top 6 club.Never gonna happen. Fantasy Land. Dream Land. Never gonna happen, regardless of if he has a year left on his contract.

Elanga likely leaving too now that Rangnick is gone. We'd be down to about 5 or 6 home grown players and we need 8. Hannibal and Mainoo could take up a slot each, but will they stay or be loaned out is the question.
Pretty sure I saw Frimpong counts as home grown somewhere.

Mount to SkySports makes more sense than us signing him :D

Chelsea are not a top 6 club anymore. Mount didn't make the England squad, neither did Chilwell or Sterling, leaving them with no English internationals at all . OK, he'll go for more than 20 but he's not worth much more. The option on Sabitzer looks much better bang for the buck, to me.

Generally the words reasonable fee and English player don't ever go together. Just look how much we paid for Maguire and AWB

Chelsea may have had a bad season but they’re still a top 6 side and Mount is still an England international despite not being picked this time round. Come on now….cannot believe people think £20M will get you anything nowadays

Poster here claiming to show that we’re just a few smart sales this window of being able to splurge a lot.
Therein lies the problem.

I also don't see how Mason Mount fits the bill. Or Rabiot, to be honest, other than being on a free. Sure, if you are comparing them to McFred, I guess they are.

Seriously how do we plan to sign Mount, Rice and Kane? No ffp?
We don't. SSN said that they are all in the list but it's incredibly unlikely we sign all three.

Kane and Rice would be my preference if we can make it work. Current England captain as well as his likely successor.
