yer i think Hargreaves is becoming a slight scapegoat, was by no means are worst midfielder today. Made some good tackles and played a nice one-two with rooney edge of area nearly resulting in a goal.

Edit: never gonna be a re-incarnation of Keano.

He had a good game today.

What´s your point? (Apart from looking for scapegoat again, thank god Silvestre is injured, as he is not the next Baresi.

So much for the Defensive midfielder needed in the CL.

He wasn't bad but we just dont play that style or formation.

Never expected him to be.
Actually i expected a hard man-type of signing, he doesn't go to ground very often and sometimes suffers from the Fletcher syndrome, could not stamp his authority in the midfield. He did alright in the first half and broke up Lyon attacks, but then people complain our play was too tactical and negative.

I thought that a 200% efforted Fletcher might have been more effective today, because sometimes Hargo looks an awful lot like Fletcher, only a little stronger.

Hargreaves did ok today. He did exactly what he was bought for, to shield the defense.

I cannot for the life of me understand all the Hargreaves bashing that goes on in this forum.

He is an excellent addition to our squad and gives our midfield options the perfect balance.

Hargreaves was good today. Once we needed a goal it was inevitable he would come off, as he does not offer as much as carrick going forward. Does not take away from his performance though.

Always running behind the play. Almost always in the wrong place.

yeah for 8, possibly 10 million pounds...not 18 million. at least fletcher shows lots of heart and is a youth product. that said, hargreaves did ok, BUT against a team with juninho, there is always a chance that hargreaves will be a liability in giving away dangerous fk's in europe like phil neville.

What the feck are you talking about ? Some of you were the clueless morons who were earlier going on about playing Scholes and Anderson in 4-4-2 until that failed miserably.

Hargreaves had a decent game. Find another scapegoat.

Not bashing him at all, not even questioning the price tag as it's irrelevant, just wondering if he is as/will be as important as Fergie expected when he brought him in.

didn't get to see the first 15 mins - but he didn't have a good game he had an ok game. very limited as a player. very. forget roy keane he's not up to the 2nd nicky butt yet. maybe he'll settle or maybe not but 17m is s fecking laugh. you know and i know it and Bayern M really know it. it looked like he got caught out again and was chasing the ball when lyon scored (although tbh benzema was surrounded and scored a nice goal). he seems a headless chicken.

maybe he should come off the bench when the club has a lead and not start. or maybe he needs another year to catch up to the pace of play , him being injured so often.

Funny how we don't have threads saying "Ronaldo........is not the next Best" or "Rooney.........is not the next Pele" even though they had average performances.

And I don't think any sensible person even considers Hargreaves to be the next Keane to begin with.

Heard a good view on Fletched yesterday(albeit from a yank talk show). It's not that he's a bad player, it's that there are people better at what he's good at than him. For instance, Hargreaves is a better defender, Fletcher is a better passer. Carrick is a better passer, Fletcher is a better defender. He gets unlucky because for all his strengths, there's someone else better at that aspect than him.

I dont mind Hargreaves as much as other people because I can accept he is a typical Makalele player but it does pain me to see Fergie splash out on him when we could have had a top striker instead.

Fletcher would've done just as well today, he should've stopped the pass to Benzema for the goal as well...

Read my post again.
I read your post which indicated that a defensive midfielder was not needed. He was actually needed and Lyon didnt create anything of note. We lost almost every away game over the last couple of seasons in the CL and Carrick was a part of the problem.

If Rooney wasnt such a poor finisher, we should have wrapped this game up quite early.

I was thinking about Hargreaves' performance on my way home from the pub. Individually, his performance was okay. He was energetic, looked to stifle Lyon and generally won his confrontations. But he is not a player that fits in United's system. He takes too long to release possession and too often he plays a backwards pass. The flow of the team is so much better with Carrick in the side as the ball moves through midfield much faster.

So has Hargreaves...just not in a United shirt. He's only been at the club for half a season ffs.

Half the wankers slating him are probably the same ones saying Evra and Vidic were a waste of money.

Yeah that's pretty much how i felt. I'm not disappointed or annoyed, but i guess i expected a little bit more. For a DM i wish he would dominate the midfield more, and let our attacking mids push forward a bit.

If United's game is to get over run in midfield every time we travel away in Europe and lose, then he probably doesnt suit it.

We controlled the game, had no serious attack on goal. Rooney fecked up a brilliant chance once again and yet its Hargreaves fault :houllier:
Start a thread on how fecked up Rooney is in front of the goal nowadays, and you'll see the response.
