So - back to the conspiracy theory!

How come Berbatov got on a plane to Manchester...

Someone earlier in the thread alluded to this. If Levy only gave permission to Berbatov to speak to Manchester City at 1pm, how come Berbatov was in Manchester at 1:30pm (is this right?) to be picked up by SAF without Spurs permission.

My take on this:-

Berbatov has admitted that he was never interested in Manchester City or Chelsea. As far as he was concerned there were only 2 outcomes here:-

1. he remains a spurs player
2. he goes to manchester united

in order to force this through, he and his agent discussed this and decided that they should do everything possible to get this move through. in order to do this the only logical place they should be is manchester (the other interpretation could be that they went to manchester on pretence of speaking to mark hughes (thanks mark!)).

Therefore, if the transfer was going to go through he was in the right place at the right time. If it didn't he had lost nothing and went back to spurs.

so had manchester united committed an offence? we don't know. spurs say that berbatov didn't have permission to speak to us. my take on this is that spurs admitted he wouldn't go for less than 31k or whatever and once we had privately (without telling spurs) accepted that this was the price we chose to speak to him directly and jump the step - at least get the formalities out of the way before dotting i's and crossing t's.

either way spurs are not taking action saying we broke the rules. guess we made them an offer they couldn't refuse?

any other interpretations?

Tx

PS. I lost this site at around 12 on transfer day and unable to even get the site for 2-3 days. I assumed that under volume of traffic the site fell over. I ntoe that there is no allusion to site being down here and people posting over those 2-3 days. So my question is - what happened?
I certainly think Berbatov and United had to force it through in the end because Levy was being downright awkward. Berbatov said he did have permission to go to Manchester, but Levy was holding out for as long and as much as he could. The City bid forced SAF to raise his bid in the end.

As for the site - I too had problems with this site all day Monday and early Tuesday. It just timed out before a page could load.

I reckon we'd been negotiating with Spurs for days over Berbatov and he went to OT with their permission (but without a fee yet agreed). Reckon the City bid came as much as a shock to Spurs as it did to everyone else, and I also think they knew he wouldn't go there, much as they might have liked him to. They were always simply hanging on to get us to pay as big a fee as possible.

My Happy Place - So Don't Be fecking With Me!
This thread is a feckin' behemoth, with what is nearing 2 million views, it's insane!

Here's a question:

Is the 'Berbatov Thread' growing larger than the Redcafe.net?

With all the views, it should bring quite a nice price from sponsors.

The merchandising alone would be crazy...

Berba Soap

Berbalicious Gum

I'm sure the options are endless.

Niall must be sitting on a beach somewhere, solely based on the views of the Ronaldo and Berbatov thread

Keane: United Stronger With Berbatov

Fri 05 Sep, 07:09 PM

Liverpool striker Robbie Keane has tipped former Tottenham team-mate Dimitar Berbatov to make Manchester United even stronger.

The Republic of Ireland skipper, who will lead his national side out against Georgia in Germany on Saturday evening, was not surprised when Berbatov followed him through the exit door at Whit Hart Lane to complete a deadline day £30.75million switch to Old Trafford.

But while Keane admits it is a great move for the Bulgaria international, he is confident it is an even better one for United.

He said: "It was no secret that he was going to go there, everybody knew that Berba was going to go to Manchester United.

"It's a fantastic move for him, but it's a massive one for Man United because he is a top, top player.

"I have seen that at first hand and he will be a massive addition to the Man United squad."

Asked if he had sympathy for his former club, who desperately tried to hang on to the player before finally admitting defeat, Keane said: "I am sure Berba wants to be a better player and he wants to win things, and I think that's the reason he want to Manchester United.

"But Tottenham have brought in a lot of quality players also."
