Interesting to note that he sticked at the right even with Evra out and O'Shea playing, is he now considered a RB first than?
Fergie did that too against West Ham in the League Cup, was very bizarre at the time. Perhaps he was getting him used to right back knowing he was likely to feature there more than on the left. And now he's slotted in so well there, he stays there when he has the chance. Then again, perhaps it was simply tactical both then and yesterday.

O'Shea has played at left back for us quite a bit, Fabio not in many especially none of this magnitude. As such I think SAF went with going what Fabio has played in the most recently for us, while sticking with Mr "Depenable" O'Shea on the left.

I think Rafael will be the defactor right back barring injury. We've seen the need to spell Evra and hopefully Fabio can get a few games out on the left to slowly start taking over from Evra.

Then again if he is converted to a utility player (Fabio) then he may not end up with one position. I hope that doesn't happen - a lot of talent to try and play jack-of-all, master of none role.
Reckon he's too talented to be found himself like O'Shea.

Is it just me or does he not dive into tackles as much as Rafael does?

Though Fabio has played fewer times it's obvious he's more comfortable going forward than Rafael.
I think it's hard to say, he's a much more natural attacker than Rafael as his movement shows. I think Rafael is probably a bit more direct and looks to run at players more.

To be honest they're pretty much impossible to split at times, looks like Fabio is going through the transition of being slightly more restrained like Rafael did earlier in the season.

The thing that sticks out whenever I see them is the mentality they have, they both seem to love playing in big games and instead of shying away and getting nervous their game seems to improve, such a great trait.

i hope we keep them both, imagine them playing at full-backs with let's say Nani and Valencia on the wings. That's just unstopable force out-wide!
Try both Fabio and Rafael on the same side of the pitch, one as full back one as winger.

Would be funny to see the opppsition trying to work out which one to mark as as the winger.

Rose to the occasion and did himself proud on an otherwise more or less miserable night. Well played Fabio! The future is bright with him and his brother within our ranks.

He was definitely the correct choice for that RB position.

It was the LB position that Barcelona exploited more often. Meanwhile Fabio played with a lot of maturity against opponents from another planet. If we didn't have his pace there it could have been worse for us. Now we know he can handle any opposition and that should be the positive we take from this.

Good performance. I expect him to really challenge Evra next year for the LB spot, unless SAF thinks he's the future RB.

Done well tonight, just wish we started with O'Shea at LB, Evra tucked in far too much for my liking and was caught chasing shadows at times. His inability to put in a decent cross was also disheartening.

Great tonight. I think he can take over the left back spot next season for good.

He is a superb player, and I am so proud of him. He and his brother must start whenever they are fit and available. We can no longer afford to start Evra.

I predicted that Rafael would be seen as our best fullback by the end of the season, and now I am sure that people agree that both he and Fabio are phenomenal players and definitely better than Evra.

Some papers have reported that he may well be off this summer.
Doubt it, signed a new contract a few months ago.

I wonder if his performances this season have been affected by the WC bollocks or if he's just become too comfortable knowing he's starting week in week out.

Fabio did ok. Slightly disappointed that he would do well to surge forward then seemed to give the ball away rather cheaply in the final third. Compared to the rest of the side he performed well.

Not sure whether he should be left back or right back. Perhaps sensible to try him seriously on both sides and see how he does. Evra could do with some competition for his place.

He did alright. Had some good moments and some poor ones too. Completely switched off at 1 point where Pedro should have scored.

Disagree. Not on him to follow Pedro all the way to the first post, just like it wasn't Evra's job to try and follow Messi and leave all that space behind him for Pedro to score the opening goal.

If Evra keeps his poor form, I can see Fabio taking his spot next season. I like the twins and they have a great future ahead of them. They are big games player and not scared

I'm uneasy with the idea of selling Evra and relying on the twins. Their injury record is poor. Have faith in paddy.

While Fabio was undoubtedly fantastic today and has been towards the end of the season, I still feel rafael is the better player. Injuries aside he would have started and dare I say, made a big difference to the quality of that right side play today. Fabio did his best but he's still developing. He doesn't have Rafael's flare or vision but he will get it with time.

I say again, two very exciting prospects, fantastic buys for us.

Don't taze me, bro
Don't think I've posted in here since my OP but I think we can all be quite happy with the season this fella has had and I am glad that there will be an open right back spot for Fabio and Rafael to share next season in their development.

Not sure about all these Evra comments, he's 30 years old and has been one of our best players over the past few years... I hope (and expect) that he stays and is given the necessary time to get back to his best.

Think it's time for him to be given a chance with the LB spot in preseason and give Evra a long rest and see how it goes. I honestly believe that the twins will be in the Brazil squad for the 2014 World Cup, and might even start for them.
