Burnley Football Club (nicknamed The Clarets), is a professional association football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. On 18 May 1882, The club was founded on On 18 May 1882, when Burnley Rovers Football Club decided to shift their allegiance from rugby union to football. Playing in various green or blue and white kits for their first few years, the club played their first competitive game in October 1882 against Astley Bridge in the Lancashire Challenge Cup, that game ending in an 8–0 defeat. In the early months of 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor and remain there, only their Lancashire rivals Preston North End having occupied the same ground continuously for longer. Burnley first appeared in the FA Cup in 1885–86 but were ignominiously beaten 11–0 when eligibility restrictions meant that their reserve side had to be fielded against Darwen Old Wanderers. On 13 October 1886, Turf Moor became the first ground to be visited by a member of a (British) Royal Family. When it was decided to found the Football League for the 1888–89 season, Burnley were among the 12 founders of that competition.

The club enjoyed its Golden days as one of the most progressive clubs around in the 1950s to the early 1970s under the reign of chairman Bob Lord. They were one of the first teams to build a training ground next to the stadium, while every other team still trained in their own stadium, and the Turf Moor club used innovative training methods. Among other things, this resulted in an excellent youth team. Nearly all members of the 1959–60 Division 1 winning team had played in the Burnley youth team. Lord also pioneered the short-lived 'Football Specials'. The Clarets were also the first to let a manager decide about the transfer policy. After the 1959–60 title winning season finished, Burnley went to the United States to participate in the inaugural international football tournament in North-America, the International Soccer League. The following season Burnley played in European competition for the first time. Burnley's biggest traditional rivals are Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers with the match between Burnley and Blackburn sometimes called The Cotton Mills Derby. Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor.

Probably back to our 'starting XI'

    De Gea

    Young Lindelof Jones Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial

Possible changes: Dalot in for either fullback and Lukaku in for Martial.

They're on a run of 4 wins and a draw (West Ham H, Huddersfield A, Barnsley H, Fulham H, Watford A (0-0)) but we should still be too much for them. Not long ago they lost 5-1 to Everton.

    Make it 9/9.

I'd go for 2-0. They have their first choice keeper back and he'll probably have the standard "turn world class against United" performance. 9/9 incoming.

Think we all know what our strongest 11 is right now, but next few weeks we need to rotate a bit. Rashford and Martial will probably start, then between Lukaku and Sanchez for the 3rd with Lingard getting a rest. Possible Fred in for Herrera, Dalot for one of the fullbacks.

    De gea
    Dalot Jones Lindelof Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Rashford Sanchez Martial
Lukaku, Mata, pereira the 3 subs. Comfortable win hopefully!

Hoping for a good performance and a win.

Rash - Sanchez- Martial (Interchanging positions)

Love to see that vs Burnley.

    Young - Lindelof - Jones - Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera - Pogba
    Lingard - Rashford - Martial.

They drew the last 2 games at Old Trafford so they're not push overs but we're in an incredible form now, should be a 2-0 win at least.

De Gea, Martial and Rashford to return to the starting XI you’d have thought. Likely start for Fred and rest for Jesse too I’d say.
    Would absolutely love this lineup.

    De Gea
    Dalot Bailly Lindelöf Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Sanchez Rashford Martial
Lingard, Lukaku and Pereira to come on for Matic, Pogba and Sanchez when the game is won.

Absolutely no reason to bench Lingard currently even though I don't like him.

Would bring De Gea back, give Dalot a run at RB, Start Rashford and Martial, with Fred in for Lingard (this type of game would not suit him, Burnley playing 9 at the back, and he would get a rest), Shaw and Dalot play more as wingers, and Pogba playing as an outright 10, you would have Herrera, Matic and Fred as a solid midfield three, we would, in essence, have 5 attacking players. Think it will be a difficult game, we will have to be patient.

Anyone else kind of want to see Lukaku play on the right with Rashford and Martial up front? He has his faults but tonight showed he can be a nuisance and effective there while playing a top 6 team.

    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Jones/Bailly Shaw

Herrera Matic Pogba/Fred (Pogba needs a rest)

    Lukaku Rashford Martial

Pogba could do with a rest. Pereira on the bench to come in. Sanchez gets 30 minutes as a sub.

Edit: although Matic definitely needs a rest too.

I do like Lingard but would be happy to see him benched for this game. He’s not at his best against crap but well-organised sides.

Lets keep the momentum going! I really feel confident about this one, going for a 2-0 Rashford and Martial.

They play City away on Saturday then have two days before Old Trafford. Hopefully the fresh legs of Martial and Rashford will help us get a result.

Not bothered about the fashion or number of goals - this looks like a potential banana skin so any sort of win would be great.

I'd like to see Bailly stay in but I think Jones will be back, hopefully Dalot gets a run out. I see Fred in a lot of line-ups but I'd only bring him on as a sub, I wouldn't tamper with the midfield. Up top I expect Martial and Rashford to come back in and I think Mata might start as Burnley will park the bus.

Burnley are on good form at the moment with four wins and a draw.

That said, I think this is United's to lose. I expect De Gea, Rashford and Martial to return to the starting line up too.

Are they a threat in midfield? I guess we could try Pogba and Matic as a pivot with Martial-Rashford-Sanchez-Lingard as a front 4. They will be tough to break down. If we go a bit overboard with the attacking lineup, the game will open up which will benefit us.

Probably too experimental. Lets keep going

I hope we’ll see Dalot and Fred for this one. We really need them to step up and show their worth.

Oh, and, probably, a long shot but Sanchez on the right? Has to be tried at some point.

Hopefully we rest Matic and/or Pogba. I want a glimpse of Fred. Sanchez in the 9 role with Martford flanking him sounds tasty.

Gomes or Chong on the bench please.

Burnley actually have a very good record against United, and they actually have a record of beating us 9 games in a row back around WW1. What was strange was that when we finally did manage to beat them again - we won 6-1 at O.T in 1925

In recent times - their record however has been horrible despite a few strong draw the last couple of seasons. The win in 2009 with Carrick missing a penalty is their only win against us in the last 25 matches (in all competitions).

But they do have a strange habit of picking up draws away to us - and have 6 draws in their last 12 visits to Old Trafford

But we didn't have Solskjaer then :)

Dyche said he is going to make a lot of changes for their FA cup tie against City. The cnut is throwing the game away so they can be fresh against us.
