Derby County Football Club (nicknamed The Rams - a tribute to its links with the First Regiment of Derby Militia), is an English professional football club based in Derby, Derbyshire, and playing in the Championship. Derby County Football Club was formed in 1884, as an offshoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. With the increasing popularity of football in the areas becoming apparent, William Morley, a bank clerk at the Midland Railway, and several other enthusiasts, saw the establishment of an associated football team as an opportunity to both generate extra revenue and give supporters a winter interest. They approached the Derbyshire FA, formed the previous year, proposing the name "Derbyshire County", to emphasize the connection to the cricket club. This was rejected as being too long, and the name "Derby County" was instead settled upon, with home games to be played at the County Ground.

Derby County enjoyed its greatest period of success following the appointment of Brian Clough as Clough and Taylor spent their first season at the club rebuilding but went on to win the Second Division title in 1968-69, going 22 matches unbeaten. After fourth and ninth-placed finishes in the First Division, Derby won the title in 1971-72. Derby finished seventh the following season but did reach the semi-finals of the European Cup, losing to Juventus. The campaign was, however, plagued by incidences of Clough falling out with the Rams' board - particularly the chairman, Sam Longson. Clough and Taylor eventually resigned in October 1973, with fans reacting by demanding the board step down instead so that the pair could be reinstated. Derby would eventually appoint Dave Mackay, one of Clough's key players, and won the league again before a demise that ended with relegation to the Third Division in the 1984.

Notable for being one of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888, Derby is one of only ten clubs to have competed in every season of the English football league system and, in 2009, was ranked 137th in the top 200 European football teams of the 20th century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics. Derby County's primary rival clubs are Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Leeds United, with Forest, based in Nottingham, 14 miles east of Derby, being by far the fiercest rivals; a 2008 survey named the rivalry the 11th-largest in English football, revealing that nine out of ten fans from both clubs point to the other as their fiercest rival. Meetings between the side are known as East Midlands derbies and the winning team is awarded the Brian Clough Trophy. Derby play their home matches at Pride Park Stadium, where the club moved in 1997.

I'd go for a full rotation. We're playing so many games we must rest players when having the opportunity. If we end up getting knocked out then so be it. With that in mind:

    Romero
    Dalot--Bailly--Jones--Williams
    McTominay--Pereira
    Lingard--Mata--James
    Ighalo

Subs: Bishop; Laird, Lindelof; Matic, Gomes; Chong, Greenwood

Jones worries me and Pereira and Lingard are pretty garbage but we're playing a Championship. It won't be an easy game but I'd definitely rather we rest players for the City game.

Derby County are a Championship team, which means Lingard may actually do something against them.
I'd probably start with Bruno and if we get a 2 goal lead, sub him off with a view to bringing on Lingard.
    Need to protect Bruno.

I agree with this, I reckon you‘ll have about 8-9 correct come Thursday night. Rotation needed. Lingard and Mata are good enough to run the show against a good championship team.

    Team should be...

    ---------------Romero---------------
    Dalot--Bailly--Jones--Williams
    --McTominay--Andreas--
    -----------------Mata-----------------
    Greenwood---------Chong
    ----------------Ighalo----------------

Subs: Kovar, Lindelof, Tuanzebe, TFM, Lingard, James, Martial

Not a great XI but need to start giving players a rest

With his poor performance today, I'd start Martial again in the hope he bags a goal and a decent showing.

Try and play him into form because we badly need it. We can't keep relying on one player being in form to bail us out.

Would do this. Sub Bruno as soon as we get a bit of a lead. Would definitely still start him though, need to progress.

    Should just rotate absolutely everyone.

We dont have the squad to be competative in two cups and PL, and FA cup is the least important one. It was noticable in second half today that the players were tired.

Just hoping Solskjær realises this, his stubbordness in competing on all fronts already cost us Rashford.

    I would go with.

Totally disagree. Should go strong and try to win this. Rather rest vs City since we will probably not win that one either way.
Although we should go strong for every game.

Should still rotate, but giving up competitions is stupid. If anything we should rest in the league.

He'd scored in three straight matches before today...

We can't compete on three fronts. Play a second string with maybe 2/3 regulars and see where it gets us. We've got to prioritise top 4 and going for Europa now over the cup.

Yes, he's saved us plenty of times this season, and I've defended him a lot on here, but he was very poor today in not only quality, but effort, too. We don't want him sinking into poor form, so I'd want us to play him here, hope he does well, and he stays at a good level.

He's a confidence player and we don't want him losing said confidence. Plays here, scores or just has a good game in general, and his confidence will stay high. A bit like how we started him against Tranmere.

Pogback I presume. If he at all plans to play in the derby, I imagine he’ll have to feature against the Derby.

What? A point against city might mean the difference between CL or not.

Sancho and the sponsor money wouldnt care less if we win the FA cup ...

AWB, Fred, Martial and Bruno need a rest. We simply have to risk this as the EL and the league are more important.
Don't see why the team above can't get a win.

What, playing football? So is he supposed to just retire then due to fear of aggravating his injury or something?
No, but playing too soon. Dont risk anything this time.

You either go second XI or full strength. Don't leave Bruno and Maguire trying to carry Lingard and Pereira against a side who have lost only twice at home all season, and either losing or having to play 120 minutes.

    My ideal scenario

    ------------------Romero
    Dalot----Bailly--Maguire--Williams
    -----------Garner----*---Fred
    -------------------Mata
    -----Greenwood---Ighalo

    *Lingard/Pereira
Fred half a game, Matic the other half. Keep McTominay fresh for the weekend. Sub Maguire off as early as possible.

    Lineup thus against City:

    -----------------de Gea
    AWB--Lindelof--Maguire--Shaw
    ----------------Matic
    ---------McTom---Fred
    ----------------Bruno
    James---------------------Martial

We really should priorities the top 4 chase over the FA Cup.

Full rotation needed with the busy schedule and important games coming up. AWB, Fred and Martial in particular, should be getting a rest.

    Would go for something like:

    Romero
    Dalot - Bailly - Jones - Williams
    McT - Pereira
    Greenwood - Mata - James
    Ighalo

    Should be enough to win.

This is where we should be able to rotate quite heavily.

Romero, Dalot, Williams, Bailly, James, Greenwood and Ighalo should all pretty much be automatically selected IMO. I would assume a different no.10 over Bruno as well.

    Romero
    Dalot Bailly Maguire Williams
    Andreas Matic
    Greenwood Lingard James
    Ighalo

Probably something like this. Ole seems reluctant to leave out Maguire so he might still start. Mata is one who may start though, and probably should over someone but I'd hope that Ole wants Fred & McTominay for the Man City game. Don't really want Greenwood left out of this but it's the only place I can see Mata starting, unless Lingard doesn't.

I really hope he leaves out Maguire, he has played too many games in a row.

I'd chuck Jones in for Maguire and McT and Matic for one half each. Isnt Fosu-Mensah soon ready for action?

Changes changes changes. Play any kid that could do with some game time; Chong, Gomes, Garner, Tuanzebe if fit. Play some experience purely to back the kids up and be ready to bring them off as soon as we're comfortable. I'm not particularly bothered about going out, I want rested first teamers and kids given a chance to show what they can do.

I work with a few Derby fans, I'm shitting myself. I hope we go for the jugular like against Bruge and paste them, but I'm worried Ole will be too scared and go defensive. But they are not a good team, struggled like hell this season and last season they were carried by Mason Mount (despite him not looking that great by PL standards).

And of course there's the Rooney factor. I kinda want him to bang one in, but it better just be a consolation goal.

Could be a banana skin but we need to rotate, even if a little.

    -----------------------------------Romero------------------------------------------
    AWB----------------Bailly-------------------Jones-----------------------Williams
    ------------------------Fred-------------------Matic--------------------------------
    -------------------------------------Mata-------------------------------------------------
    ----Chong----------------------Ighalo----------------------------------------James

SUBS - Fernandes (Mata), Pereira (Chong), Martial (James)

    Derby County 1 - 3 Man United
    Mata, Ighalo, Martial.

United played 3 at the back against Tranmere, and I can see the same being used against Derby.

    3-4-3

    .................... Romero

Bailly - Maguire - Jones (Tuanzebe?)

    Dalot - McTominay - Williams

    ................. Lingard

    ... Mata - Ighalo - Pereira
