Everton Football Club (nicknamed The Toffees and The Blues) are a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Everton were founded as St Domingo FC in 1878 so that members of the congregation of St Domingo Methodist New Connexion Chapel in Breckfield Road North, Everton could play sport year round – cricket was played in summer. The club's first game was a 1–0 victory over Everton Church Club. The club was renamed Everton in November 1879 after the local area, as people outside the congregation wished to participate. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888–89 and won their first League Championship title in the 1890–91 season. Everton won the FA Cup for the first time in 1906 and the League Championship again in 1914–15. The outbreak of the First World War in 1914 interrupted the football programme while Everton were champions, which was something that would again occur in 1939.

It was not until 1927 that Everton's first sustained period of success began. In 1925 the club signed Dixie Dean from Tranmere Rovers. In 1927–28, Dean set the record for top-flight league goals in a single season with 60 goals in 39 league games, which is a record that still stands. He helped Everton win their third League Championship that season. Everton's second successful era started when Harry Catterick was made manager in 1961. In 1962–63, his second season in charge, Everton won the League Championship. In 1966 the club won the FA Cup with a 3–2 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Everton again reached the final in 1968, but this time were unable to overcome West Bromwich Albion at Wembley. Two seasons later in 1969–70, Everton won the League Championship, finishing nine points clear of nearest rivals Leeds United. During this period, Everton were the first English club to achieve five consecutive years in European competitions – covering the seasons from 1961–62 to 1966–67.

All in all, Everton have won 15 major trophies: the League Championship nine times (fourth most as of 2017–18), the FA Cup five times (ninth most) and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup once. The club have also competed in the top division for a record 114 seasons, missing the top division only four times (1930–31 and three consecutive seasons starting with 1951–52). Everton have play their homes games at Goodison Park since 1892, after moving from Anfield following a row over its rent. Their biggest rivals are neighbors Liverpool, against whom they contest the Merseryside Derby.

Guessing mostly large-scale rotation for this with us playing Leicester City on boxing day

    Henderson

    Williams Tuanzebe* Maguire Telles
    Matic
    van de Beek Pogba
    Mata
    Greenwood Cavani

*wasn’t on the bench today so maybe Bailly but not too keen on playing him

Henderson, Maguire, Telles, Matic, Pogba, Van de Beek, Greenwood and Cavani will definitely start this one if fit.

Three more players to complete the XI then. Think Lindelof should start as I don't trust our other CBs. AWB has proven capable of playing many games as well. Think one of Martial and Rashford should complete the XI.

Then De Gea, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, Bruno, and Martial/Rashford fresh for weekend.

    I'd go:

    Henderson
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    Pogba Matic
    Van de Beek
    Greenwood Cavani Rashford

I would go with this team.

    Is Axel fit?

Pretty much this team, but would be tempted to play Bailly and Tuanzebe together. Bruno and Rashford certainly need a break, I would not even make them travel, although we are only a couple of games from a final.

I'd like to see everyone who started today given a rest apart from Telles who only played 60 minutes and maybe both centre backs (but preferably one if we can trust a backup CB to perform).

Just re-read the thread. This lineup looks perfect to me - exactly the right amount of rotation I'd hope for.

Expect a slightly stronger team than I'd originally thought due to being able to take people off in todays game.

    Henderson
    AWB? Maguire Telles
    Matic Pogba
    Greenwood DvB Rashford
    Cavani

Martial, Bruno, Lindelof, Shaw all on the bench. I'd play Tuanzabe if he's fit and Bailly if not.

Quarter final, 2 legged SF with either Spurs or City to come for the winner
    This is incorrect.

It will be a single-legged SF this year.

Winner of this tie could also play the winner of Brentford vs Newcastle. The draw for the SF is still to be made.

    One game this.

We have enough of quality players to win this.

I want silverware. I'm sure Everton will be up for this, so we need to bring our big guns too.

Pellistri, Ighalo and Lingard to come on.
    Good team.
Leicester at weekend so definitely need to freshen things up.

    Oh really didn't know that

Knowing our luck it would still be City away we get
Fingers crossed we get past Everton first, but yeah you're right will probably get drawn away to City.

I would be hoping it would be Tottenham at home... revenge, with Martial scoring a brace

...or better still, Brentford at home (should they see off Newcastle) if the draw is yet to be made

Huuuge game against Leicester on Boxing Day (and they'll have a week break/prep time) so would like to see a bit of rotation but I can't see Ole risking going out of another competition.

Looking forward to this. Really want to win something and this would be a good step towards that, as well as going into Christmas on a high.

Given Everton are in good form I expect them to go full strength. They can’t seemingly win a game without Richarlison.

    I’d go with:

    Henderson
    Williams Tuanzebe Maguire Telles
    Fred Matic
    Mata Pogba Martial
    Cavani

Come on, we have a far more experienced squad on the bench. This isn’t the game to throw him in. He may get minutes against Watford

Why not? It's the EFL cup and he's been training with the first team for a long while now. He's been looking pretty good for the reserves too. You'd expect bright talents for the future to get a look in for these sorts of games.

We should focus on the league and hence rotate.

    Henderson.
    TFM/williams bailly/Tuanzebe. Maguire Telles.
    Matic Pogba
    Van de Beek.
    Greenwood. Rashford/Martial
    Cavani

Huh. A team assembled from bench players against Leeds, and it still looks quite strong. Wonder when was the last time we could've said that.

Some players really need a rest. Of course we shouldn't rest the full team, but madness for me to start Bruno in this for example.

    Henderson
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Telles
    VDB - Matic
    Pogba
    Greenwood - Cavani - James

Should be good enough to put on a competitive match regardless of the result.

If it wasn’t Everton, yes. Big game and they’ll be out for revenge
