Southampton Football Club (nicknamed The Saints) are a professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton were founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. St. Mary's Y.M.A., as they were usually referred to in the local press, played most of their early games on The Common where games were frequently interrupted by pedestrians insistent on exercising their right to roam. More important matches, such as cup games, were played either at the County Cricket Ground in Northlands Road or the Antelope Cricket Ground in St Mary's Road. The club was originally known as St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. (usually abbreviated to "St. Mary's Y.M.A.") and then became simply St. Mary's F.C. in 1887-88, before adopting the name Southampton St. Mary's when the club joined the Southern League in 1894.

Southampton play their home games at St. Mary's Stadium, and were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club has a long-standing sporting rivalry with Portsmouth in a match termed the South Coast Derby or the Hampshire Derby. Southampton has received praise for employing an intense brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino, and having one of the best youth systems on English soil — which has churned out the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Matth Le Tissier, Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana over the years — as well as current Manchester United leftback, Luke Shaw.

First time in a long time I feel we have two games in succession we can afford some rotation in, with this and the Betis away game.

Would put Sancho in for Antony but keep the rest as is. Then rotate some vs Betis.

I usually don't cry about resting players but would be fantastic to see Bruno and Casemiro not playing 180 minutes over the next two matches.

Has Southampton lost 9-0 this season yet? Might be time.

AWB (surely?) - Maguire - Martinez - Shaw
    Casemiro
    Fred - Fernandes
    Antony - Weghorst - Rashford

    4-0 United.

Need to keep momentum in the league after last week's set back so I'd rather see the heavy rotation on Thursday and we still go with a full strong squad for this one.

Start strong then make subs if we can. Bruno has to start CM again.

Get the game won early and make subs. I'd rest Varane and maybe 1 more at the most. We can't take top 4 for granted. Not with our schedule.

A must win before the international break to put us in a good position for the run in.

Expect it will be a lot tougher than tonight.

I want AWB starting, suspect Varane might not be up for this so maybe lindelof too. Otherwise the same squad, we can start Garnacho/Sancho/Pelistri in Seville.

Wouldn't take Southampton for granted. Since May 2017 there has been 12 meetings between the two, just 5 United wins and 7 draws. Most recently Southampton beat Chelsea away and knocked Man City out of the league cup.

Why are so many people wanting to rest key players for a PL match?? Top 4 is not secured yet.

Get the 3 points locked up as quickly as possible....don't need to fuk around with a team in the relegation battle

then get bruno, rashy off the pitch

this 100% get the 3 pts with strongest side. AWB looked better than Dalot.

then rest players at Betis so we are fresh to beat Fulham in FA cup!

Feels like a very significant game. In fact our next four home games are just that. Get a good return in those and we have one foot in the top 4.

Pretty much the same again, but Wan-Bissaka is looking stronger than Dalot at the moment, so he's in my first XI. Since we are three goals to the good against Betis, we could perhaps start Dalot, Maguire/Lindelof, Malacia, McTominay/Sabitzer, Sancho/Pellistri/Garnacho to give us some kind of rotation before the international break.

Needs to be practically full strength here though and get the game won ASAP. All well and good dismantling Betis, but we regardless of how much Liverpool drubbed us it was 3 points lost as much as anything else, so we need to get those back.

If Sabitzer is fit then he'll probably replace one of the defenders on the bench.
