    René Weiler

On the eve of the Manchester United reception, René Weiler explained that Anderlecht really wanted to qualify, despite the (even more) infernal timing that it would cause. "We want to beat this team but we are also aware that it will be complicated." Manchester has a lot of qualities and we will have to come out two big matches to qualify. Manchester in his championship (Editor's note: 5th and thus out of qualifying places for The Europa League has become the best way to qualify for the next C1. "In short, we can expect a lot of pressure."

In addition, Switzerland will have to dispense with its top scorer, Lukasz Teodorczyk. "He has not been able to do the full training this morning and he is uncertain, but I have complete confidence in Isaac (Kiese Thelin), he is very good and very well integrated in the team. Player with a big potential that will become more effective in front of the goal. "Even if Teo is ready to play, I might start Isaac."

Several substitutes against Ghent (Ruben, Bruno, Nuytinck ...) could start. "You talk about spin but I have more than eleven players capable of playing at a very high level. It's normal to use them in a period when you play a decisive match every three days."

And his match against Jose Mourinho? René Weiler is not impressed. "The most important thing is the players, the coaches are just here to prepare the team, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of Manchester and try to make the best match possible.

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht, usually known as Anderlecht (and nicknamed Paars-wit or Les Mauves et Blancs - denoting their Purple and White outfits) is a Belgian professional football club based in Anderlecht, Brussels-Capital Region - playing in the Belgian First Division A. Anderlecht can be traced back to the foundation of the football club Sporting Club Anderlechtois on 27 May 1908 by a dozen of football lovers gathered at the Concordia café.

Anderlecht are the most successful Belgian football team in European competitions, with five trophies, as well as in the Belgian domestic league, with 33 championship wins. They have also won nine Belgian Cups and hold the record for most consecutive Belgian championship titles, winning five between the 1963/64 and 1967/68 seasons - having played in the first division continuously since 1935/36. They are also ranked 12th amongst all-time UEFA club cup competition winners and tenth in the IFFHS continental Clubs of the 20th Century European ranking.

Anderlecht have been playing their matches in the Astrid Park in the municipality of Anderlecht since 1917. Their current stadium, Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, was first opened in 1983, and replaced the former Emile Versé Stadium. They play in purple and white outfits. They have long-standing rivalries with Club Brugge and Standard Liège and previously with FC Brussels.

Anderlecht were United's first ever opponents in a European competition. The Reds triumphed 2-0 in the first leg in Brussels but were still anticipating a tough road to the next round of the 1956/57 European Cup, having become the first English team to enter the competition. What followed was a 10-0 thrashing for the Belgians at Maine Road, a club-record victory that still stands after 60 years - Dennis Viollet led the way with four of the goals and Tommy Taylor also bagged a hat-trick, with Liam Whelan (2) and Johnny Berry adding their names to the scoresheet.
"We were all keyed up for the return match and also a little anxious because we too were playing away from home," Busby later explained. "We had to stage the tie at Maine Road because Old Trafford did not then have floodlighting. The conditions were also a little unsettling. It had rained heavily and the pitch was covered in pools of water. We needn't have worried though. "The boys won 10-0, an incredible score which possibly had some people assuming that Anderlecht were a poor side. But this was no little team from Malta or Iceland. Belgium was a strong soccer nation and Anderlecht were its champions. "I have just got to say that we ran up what has to be regarded in football circles as a cricket score because we played darned well! I was becoming accustomed to see the great team of those days playing well, but they excelled themselves that night. It was, in fact, the finest exhibition of teamwork I had ever seen from any side either at club or international level."

Looking forward to this one. I've more or less binned any chance of top 4 so it's Europa League or bust, for me.

Need a couple of away goals here. This team and Besiktas are the only team in the Europa League that are on top of their respective leagues, so I think it'll be tougher than people might think.

Nah, it's just that they have a playoff system to determine the champion. Anderlecht topped the league and won 1 game in the playoffs so far.
    Ah I see

Romero is first choice keeper in Europa League, and Mourinho said De Gea will be back for the game against Chelsea.

I know I just feel De Gea should be playing these games now, watch Romero drop a clanger that costs us the trophy

We absolutely need some away goals, because when we play at Old Trafford, it'll probably be a 0-0 or 1-1 draw...and it saddens me to say this.

    Here are some stats:
in our last 3 home games we scored: 2 goals (average 0.66 goals/game)
in our last 3 away games we scored: 6 goals (average 2 goals/game and includes the CFC game, when we played most of the game with 10 men).

After seeing DDG in his last game, it is actually DDG who is more likely drop a clanger. Romero is rock solid.

On a more positive note, we've won every single home game in the EL scoring 13 and conceding 1 in 5 games. That 1 was RVP.

The away goal rule makes the tie tricky. If that wasn't in play, I would be confident of going through.

We have to be careful not to concede when they come to Old Trafford.

Not the team I'd like but I can see us going three in the middle and using the workmanlike players to grind out a 1-0 or something.

Confident we'll get a good result , can even a win to finish everything from there.

Hope Shaw continues playing to be able to judge him if he'll be consistent or not .

    Romero
    Valencia - Bailly - Rojo - Shaw
    Herrera - Fellaini - Pogba
    Mikhi - Zlatan - lingard

Will probably be the main line up . I hope he gives Martial a game since Lingard is playing often recently but I predict Jessie to start and he's doing fine now anyway .

    Predict 1-0 or 2-0 win .

Small trip to Brussel for our Reds so should be a good game for us. We'll have a lot of fans travelling too. Best opponent we could have so let make sure that we'll be up for this game.

We've been unconvincing away from home at Rostov or Saint-Etienne, so we have to win this game at Anderlecht and close the tie from game one.

Except Romero (Jose said that he was playing, let's play the strongest team). I would play the same team with Fellaini Herrera Pogba. Fellaini deserves to be on the team as he was very good lately (and maybe better than Pogba)

    ------------------------------Romero-------------------------------
    Valencia--------------Bailly-----------Rojo-------------------Blind
    ------------------------------Herrera--------------------------------
    Lingard---------------Fellaini--------Pogba-------------Mkhitaryan
    --------------------------------Ibra---------------------------------

    Then against Chelski

    ------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------
    Valencia--------------Bailly-----------Rojo-------------------Shaw
    ------------------------------Carrick--------------------------------
    Martial---------------Herrera--------Pogba---------------Rashford
    --------------------------------Ibra---------------------------------

With one eye on the Chelsea game but that game being crucial as well, I'd like to see:

Romero; Darmian, Bailly, Rojo, Blind; Carrick, Herrera, Pogba; Martial, Rashford, Lingard

Yes, its only in the EPL that we draw so many at home. In Europa, we have been pretty solid and won all our games at Old Trafford. If I remember correctly, we scored 4 goals against Fenerbahce and Feyenoord.

EARLY TEAM NEWS FOR ANDERLECHT CLASH

Jose Mourinho could welcome back two first-team stars for Manchester United's crucial Europa League quarter-final first leg against Anderlecht.

Goalkeeper David De Gea missed Sunday's 3-0 victory at Sunderlandwith a hip problem and right-back Antonio Valencia has been absent for the last two games after also sitting out Tuesday's draw with Everton.

Speaking to MUTV after the win at the Stadium of Light, Mourinho says he expects Valencia to be ready for Thursday's European test in Brussels.

“We played with the players available [against Sunderland]," he said. "Not one single player stayed in Manchester because we were thinking about resting them, or because we were thinking about rotation or about Anderlecht. Not at all.

“These are the players available at the moment and, when I look to the others, I just expect Valencia to be ready to play and no more, I don't think. I don't think any one of the other boys will be ready to play.”

Mourinho was without six players on Sunday, as De Gea joined Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Juan Mata and captain Wayne Rooney in missing the Sunderland clash. The boss later gave a more detailed update on the Spanish stopper, however, after he was replaced by Sergio Romero for the match.

Romero - who impressed again in the absence of De Gea - has been a regular in the Europa League this season. And while Mourinho admits that De Gea's injury is "not serious", he suggested that the Argentinian could retain his place against Anderlecht.

“De Gea's injury is not serious and Romero every time he plays he plays so well," he added. “The fans are used to having Romero in goal in the competition [the Europa League] - that becomes the most important competition for us after winning the League Cup.

“The Europa League is the competition we can still win, so when Sergio plays in the Europa League and when we are giving him this confidence to play, it’s because we know that his answer is positive and today he looked like he was really comfortable.”

The Reds will fly out to Belgium on Wednesday, when Mourinho could provide a further update on his squad in his pre-match press conference. As always, our reporters will also be there to provide live updates of his media briefing, as well as build-up to the game.

Interested to see how Dendoncker plays (defensive midfielder, 21 years old).
Nicknamed Robocop in Belgium because of his physicality - I think he has clocked well over 4500 minutes of football this season (something like played every minute of every game he's been involved in, missed one or two through suspension). Tielemans is definitely the more gifted but I really like Dendoncker too and think he'll get a bigger move sometime soon also.

Are you expecting Carrick or Fellaini to play? I guess we'll be seating back, so it would make more sense to play Carrick.

Difficult one to call, I don't think we'll see too many changes from the Sunderland game. If Valencia is ready he should play obviously. Darmian did have a decent game against Sunderland, but he offered very little going forward which made Valencia's absence very evident. Hopefully Shaw starts again, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Blind (more-so if Valencia is fit, playing Darmian and Blind would be very negative, especially as I think Carrick might return as well).

    Romero
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Martial
    ---
Pereira; Tuanzebe, Darmian, Blind; Fellaini, Lingard; Rashford

Will be happy with any victory, hopefully we can get a few goals again. Even a score draw is fine.

Surely Pogba, Herrera and Zlatan are rested enough for this one ? Come to think of it, we just be kinda rested on all areas of the pitch.

Don't see why we won't play or best 11 Thursday and Sunday.
